Robert THREADGOLD Biography

Robert THREADGOLD married Marilla SOWL THREADGOLD before 1844. They had two children, Thomas and Ellen C THREADGOLD. He died in 1854 and is buried in the SOWL THREADGOLD Cemetery.

* p129 - The first settler in the Township of Argyle was Robert THREADGOLD (lst husband of Marilla SOWL) who arrived in 1839 before the Village of Argyle was organized. He became the owner of the Owego Mill. Older citizens said that the Village of Argyle would have been built where the Owebo Mill was, but Robert THREADGOLD would not allow a store to be built by his mill nor sell any land for a dam site.

* p16 - The Owego Mill was begun by Zopher Williams, and eventually purchased by Robert THREADGOLD. Robert ran the mill from 1850 to 1854 when he passed away. James SARDESON, who came from a milling family with origins in England, came to operate the Owego mill after THREADGOLD's death, and in 1855 married his widow, Marilla SOWL THREADGOLD. He continued to manange the mill until 1865, when he moved his family to Argyle.

** p 31 - Upon Robert THREADGOLD's death, the SOWLs helped Marilla at the mill until she remarried to James SARDESON, who was also from a family of millers and they continued to operate the mill at Owego.
