Marcia Ann Kuehl, was born and raised in Wisconsin Rapids, Wood County, Wisconsin. Her parents were
Mr Raymond Claude and Mavis Ann Kuehl. She was the fifth child of nine; her siblings in order of oldest
to youngest are: Harvey Duncan, Jerry LeRoy, Raymond Claude Jr, Charles Phillip, Randy Reagan, Melissa Yvette, Michael
Todd, and Todd Charles. She graduated from both Irving Elementary (K-4) and Howe
Elementary (5-8), and went on to attend Lincoln High School. In 1971, her family moved to
Menomonie, Dunn Co, WI during her junior year, where she graduated from Menomonie Senior High in 1972.
Ms Kuehl continued with her studies, graduating from the University of Wisconsin -
Oshkosh (UW-O) with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in secondary education in 1976 and a
Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Reading Specialist in 1980. She recently graduated in 2001
with an EdD in Educational Leadership at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Due to hardships faced by the family, Ms Kuehl entered the work force in 1968, the summer before high school.
She started as a clerical assistant at Howe Elementary School and for the next four years, continued to work
in numerous clerical positions, to include the Wisconsin State Unemployment Office, Marine Corps Recruitment Office, and
The Job Corps.
Working her way through college, Marcia continued in clerical positions, Kelly Girls Temporary Agency,
and also as a Hospital Housekeeper. After earning her bachelors degree, Marcia worked at Lennox Candles Inc,
while obtaining her Masters degree. Then the job recession hit Wisconsin.
She entered the Marine Corps in October of 1980 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant
in April of 1981, upon completion of OCS, at Quantico, VA. After departing The Basic School
(TBS), Second Lieutenant Kuehl was ordered to H & HS-90, MATSG-90, Millington, TN, where
she attended Aircraft Maintenance Officers School. Upon completion, she was designated as
an Aircraft Maintenance Officer (MOS 6002).
Second Lieutenant Kuehl's first duty assignment was with H & MS-39, MAG-39, 3rd MAW,
Camp Pendleton, CA, as Quality Assurance Officer. During her tenure with MAG-39, she was
transferred to HMA-369 to serve as Maintenance Material Control Officer. In April 1983,
she was promoted to First Lieutenant and assumed the duties as the H7MS-39 Airframes
Division Officer.
Ordered overseas in December 1984 to H & MS-15, MAG-15, 1st MAW, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan,
First Lieutenant Kuehl served concurrently in a variety of billets within the Intermediate
Maintenance Activity to include Power Plants Division Officer, Airframes Division Officer,
and Ground Support Equipment Officer. First Lieutenant Kuehl also held the collateral
responsibility as UDP coordinator for MAG-15 and deployed to Kadena AFB on Okinawa,
Japan, Yeachon AFB, Korea, and NAS Cubi Point, Philippines in support of the MAG.
First Lieutenant Kuehl returned from West Pac in December 1985 to assume the MAG Quality
Assurance Officer billet at H & MS-11, MAG-11, 3rd MAW, MCAS El Toro, CA and was promoted
to the rank of Captain in January 1986.
Transferred to VMFA-323 in January 1987, Captain Kuehl was assigned first as the Quality
Assurance Officer, and later as the Maintenance Material Control Officer. Eventually,
she became the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer and finally the Maintenance Officer.
During her tenure with the Deathrattlers of VMFA-323, she participated in two trans Pacific
deployments, and numerous exercises and deployments. In March 1991, Captain Kuehl was
re-assigned to the newly designated MALS-11 to serve as the Operations Officer.
Captain Kuehl departed MALS-11 in September of 1991 for assignment with MALS-24, MAG-24,
1st MEB, KMCAS Kaneohe Bay, HI. In route, she attended Aviation Supply Officers School in
Athens, GA where she earned a second MOS in the Aviation Supply field (MOS 6602). She
reported to MALS-24 in January 1992 and was assigned as the Operations Officer. She was
promoted to Major in March 1993.
Major Kuehl was subsequently re-assigned to HqSvcCo, 1st MEB in July 1993 as Commanding Officer.
She assumed command of HqSvcCo on 27 July 1993. Major Kuehl was reassigned to MALSE-24 as Executive
Officer after the deactivation of the 1st MEB on 01 Oct 1994.
In June 1995, she was assigned to the USC Naval ROTC at the University of Southern
California, as both the USC Executive Officer and the Marine Officer Instructor. She served
in both billets until the arrival of the new executive officer in September of 1996.
Major Kuehl was re-assigned to MCB Camp Pendleton, CA during August 1998, and served as the Base
Adjutant. She was then assigned as the Camp Services Office in Camp Delmar, where she retired in
November of 2000.
After retirement, Ms Kuehl took a year to finish writing her dissertation with the University of Southern California in
Los Angeles, and has recently graduated. She is currently working part-time at Leah's Fabric Gallery in Mission Viejo, CA.
Her decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal 2nd award, Navy Achievement Medal,
National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation 4th award, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon
3rd Award.
