Nekoosa Historical Index

Nekoosa is located in the town of Port Edwards. It was originally known as Whitney's Rapids.

Historical Facts:

From the Adams County Press [Friendship, Adams County, Wisconsin], Saturday July 29, 1893, Page 5 Column 2

L. M. PRESTON writes us from Nekoosa that the proprietors of the town offer to sell lots for $100, conditioned that if the place does not contain one thousand inhabitants at the end of the year 1895, the $100 will be refunded. This looks like a fair proposition, but suppose the town fails to realize expectations and the buildings become dead property, the one hundred dollars will be but a slight compensation for the loss. --Westfield Union
