Grand Rapids People Living in West Superior
While we were in West Superior the past week
we had the pleasure of meeting with most of the Grand Rapids people who now
reside there. C. H. SLOCUM, the druggist, has a fine drug store there,
centrally located and doing an excellent business. He is counted among the old
settlers of that city as he settled there in 1889--thirteen years ago when
West Superior was not as large as Grand Rapids now is. He owns a comfortable
home in the residence part of the city, only eight blocks from his business place. We
were delighted to find Mr. Slocum and his estimable family so nicely situated
and prospering in that growing metropolitan city of 31,000 people.
Emmett and John CAREY, sons of our respected townsmen, D. E. CAREY, are both filling
responsible positions--the former is with ERHART & SCHIMMEL, a prominent real estate and
insurance firm as bookkeeper and confidential clerk, while the latter holds a clerk-ship
and book-keeper position with the Northern Pacific Railroad Company. Both young
men are doing nicely and are highly thought of by their employers.
Edward HERSCHLEB is local salesman for one of the leading wholesale grocery firms in Duluth
and looks after their trade in West Superior. He is furnished with a horse and outfit and
calls upon the trade in West Superior and Duluth, and he is kept busy all the time with
these two cities. It will be remembered that Edward was married last year
to a charming young lady in that city. They are keeping house and are just as
happy and congenial as a young couple could be.
H. H. GRACE is one of the prominent lawyers in West Superior and is very successful. He
has pleasant office rooms in the central part of the city and is always delighted to meet
friends and acquaintances from Grand Rapids where he was raised from boyhood to manhood. '
He made inquiry about nearly all the old settlers, some of whom had passed
away and he had not known of it. He was glad to learn of the rapid growth of
his old home city in which he still has a warm interest.
The above Grand Rapids delegation are all desirous of being remembered to
their old-time friends in Grand Rapids and vicinity.
