Troop G, Wisconsin Cavalry, World War I From the Wood County Reporter, Volume 59 Number 29, 19 July 1917, Page 1 Submitted by Joan Benner jmbenner@tznet.com What was formerly known as the Amusement Hall is now the headquarters of Troop G, Wisconsin Cavalry, where Captain R. M. GIBSON is in charge. His boys are all on the job attending to business, and have been since July 15th. The boys have their daily drill on the high school grounds in the open, do a certain amount of hiking and receive daily instructions. They are waiting for equipment, after which, they will probably be ordered to Camp Douglas, or some other point, for further and broader instructions from their superior officers. The troop is all under pay and are now really working for Uncle Sam. The officers and members of Troop G are all fine fellows and deserving the best that the city of Grand Rapids, the State of Wisconsin and the National Government can give them. May they enter into the service well equipped, possessing a great deal of initiative spirit that will count to their good in the future service that they may render to their country. The citizenship of Grand Rapids has a personal interest in their welfare and success, and will watch their progress with great interest and pleasure.
