Courthouse InformationThe following is a summary of the records to be found in the: Wood County Courthouse REGISTER OF DEEDS - Room 233Marriage Records from 1867 Birth certificates from 1876 (also delayed birth records) Death Certificates from 1877 (Only certified copies are available) Land Records Survey Records Subdivision Plate (Recorded from when the land was first settled in the 1860's) Plat Books, various dates available (Note: Current Plat Books for Wood county with an index to owners may be purchased from the University Extension Office in the Courthouse.) Name Changes Military Records - Index to Soldier and Sailors Discharges Confidential (Note: Check with the Veterans Office in the Courthouse - they will help with military records. Some are confidential: copies can be obtained of others.) CLERK OF COURT - Room 331Criminal Records Civil records - included are actions for the following: Other Miscellaneous Records COUNTY CLERK - Room 213School Census Records from 1918 to 1964. The schools then consolidated. The records are now held in each High School District. Old Wood County Normal School Transcript Records. Records are on file until the school closed. Marriage Applications. An index is available for searching names and dates. The application itself is confidential and is not available. REGISTER OF PROBATE - Room 346 Probate Records - included here will be found the following
records: Other Records (Note: Some of these records are closed to the public, but they can be opened with a court order.) COUNTY TREASURER - Room 219Tax Rolls. Tax rolls have been kept for 11 years. There are also a few of the older ones. Most older rolls are stored at the Resource Center, University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Assessment Rolls. The files are kept in the Assessor's office and in the separate districts.
