USGenWeb History
For those of you who care to know...
In March and April, 1996, agroup of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive
Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry pointfor all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases
would bestored. In addition, the databases would be indexed andcross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in
morethan one county, they could be located in the index. This led tothe US GENWEB of which Wisconsin is a part.
Volunteers are needed who are willing to coordinate the collection of databases and
generally oversee the contents of the web page.
My name is Marcia Ann Kuehl, your maintainer for the Wood and Portage Co WI pages.
Originally from Wisconsin Rapids, most of my KUEHL family are still in the areas surrounding Wisconsin Rapids, Nekoosa,
Milwaukee, and Wausau. A few fled the cold country in pursuit of the sunshine of southern California, the seashore of New Jersey, and the woods
of Oregon. Some went to Kansas.
