HOW YOU CAN BUY ANY OF THE ABOVE ITEMS
OPTION ONE - From Our Sales Officer:
You can apply by post to 50 Queens Hill, Newport, Gwent, NP20 5HJ
enclosing a sterling cheque for the appropriate amount (including postage and packing), made payable to "Gwent Family History Society"
OPTION TWO - At Family History Fairs and Open Days:
Throughout the year, we run a stall at selected Family History Society Open Days, Regional Fairs, and other major events. We also man a stall at other local events in Gwent and Glamorgan, such as the Brecon Mountain Railway Weekend.
Our full range of publications is normally for sale from our stall, enabling you to buy items without having to pay the cost of postage and packing. For a llist of the events we are attending this year, please see our "Dates for your Diary" page.
OPTION THREE - On the Parish Chest web site.
This is a facility we have arranged that enables you to order our publications (or those of other societies using the facility) and pay using an acceptable credit or debit card via a secure server.
Because Parish Chest is a service that is still growing, it currently does not have to add VAT to the cost of microfiche or CDs.
When you enter the site, click on "Family History Societies* in the left-hand menu, and then on "Gwent F.H.S.".
Note that the web-site will open in a new window so, when you have finished, close it to return to the page on this site that you were viewing.
OPTION FOUR - On the FamilyHistoryBooks web site.
The FamilyHistoryBooks website (operated by the Federation of Family History Societies Publications Co.) now incorporates the former GENfair service which it has taken over. As with Parish Chest, you can order our publications (or those of other societies using this service) and pay using an acceptable credit or debit card via a secure server.
Because of the volume of business that this service conducts, it is forced to add VAT @ 17.5% on all microfiche & CD ROM purchases made by residents of the UK and EU. This is in addition to the sales price quoted on these pages. Books/booklets are unaffected as they are zero-rated for VAT, and residents of all countries outside the EU (the former EEC) are exempt.
When you enter the site, click on "Enter the Bookshop* in the left-hand menu, then on "Main Hall", and scroll down to click on "Gwent Family History Society". Note that the web-site will open in a new window so, when you have finished, close it to return to the page on this site that you were viewing.
IF YOU LIVE OVERSEAS
If you live overseas, please see our separate page - Payments from outside the UK - for currency equivalents.
Both the FamilyHistoryBooks and Parish Chest services also enable overseas members to pay their subscriptions by debit or credit card, thus minimising the cost of currency conversion.

COPYRIGHT
We understand that some groups (and individuals)
are failing to recognize the British Laws on Copyright.
They are buying indexes or other publications and
publishing them on the Internet without permission.
Some societies selling publications have complained
to these unauthorized users with variable success.
In future, any Member Society taking part in suspect
activity
may be asked to resign from the FFHS.
Use of CD-ROMs may be subject to a Licence Agreement that
places restrictions on the way in which the data may be used.
For example, the Licence Agreement for the National Burial Index
(issued by the Federation of Family History Societies)
states that
"You may not publish or sell any portion of the software
and data, in printed, electronic, or any other format,
without prior written consent of the Licensors."
E-mailing part of the data resulting from a look-up is
regarded as publishing in printed or electronic format.
The laws on copyright state that one can only copy
a limited percentage of copyright data for one's own use.
Frequent copying of small amounts of data (which look-ups entail)
amounts to an excessive use rather than a limited percentage.
There's a significant difference between doing the odd look-up
as a favour to a friend, and a look-up service publicly offered
to all subscribers to a Mailing List or visitors to a web-site.
The latter is an inducement to use the look-up service
rather than to buy the original copyrighted product.
