This is a wonderful list compiled by Bill Rice with notations for relationships and families. He is to be commended for providing this listing and the care he gives to the cemetery. Our Sincere "THANK YOU" to Bill Rice.

A special "THANK YOU" to the Haught family for the initial cleanup of the cemetery!

The transcribed records from the WPA era, from the microfilm are also available to us now, through the generous contribution of Christine Simmons  cjsimons@bcpl.net  Any question about these records should be addressed to Christine.  These records will be carefully checked against this listing and any additions will be duly noted in this manner with "wpa" added.

Directions:  Take Rt. 250/219 south from Elkins. Turn right at the Elkins Airport onto the Country Club Road. Starting where you turn off the Country Club Rd (or Airport Rd).  It's the first right after the airport entrance, go 7/10th mile, bear right for 1/10 mile, then bear right again for another 1/10 mile and cemetery is on the bank on the right.

NOTES:

1.  The above listings include both marked and unmarked graves from all known sources.  A few are followed by question marks, which indicates that some speculation is involved in putting them on this list.  Any errors or discrepancies should be brought to the attention of William H. Rice, P.O. Box 303, Elkins, WV 26241.

2.  Abraham Kittle, Senior and Michael Wees, both died before 28 September 1818 when the tract where the cemetery is located was purchased by the deacons of the Regular Baptist Church for $40.00 from Henry and Elizabeth Petro.  While the Meeting House was already built on the tract according to the deed, there is no mention of the cemetery.  Abraham Kittle, Senior is more likely to be buried in the cemetery on his home place at Sullivan's Crossing about two miles northwest of Arnold Hill.  The WPA canvass also lists him at Sullivan's Crossing.  Michael Wees, on the other hand, died in 1813 and was more likely buried on his homeplace on the Cheat River.
(William H. Rice)

3.  There are far more graves in the cemetery than I have names on my list and I keep learning of new people to include on it.  Since I made my list in 1993 I've had access to additional sources of information and talked to people who have family members in the cemetery and am confident that the named persons are also buried in Arnold Hill Cemetery.  (William H. Rice)
