The Cool/Van Vredenberg/Kortreght Families

Jacob Barentsen Cool was born in Rotterdam, Holland. He came to New Netherland in 1625. He married Marretje Leenderts Symensen.

Their eight children were:

1. *Appolonia Barrentsen Cool born January 29, 1645 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. She Married Willem Van Vredenberg on October 19, 1664 in New Amsterdam, New Netherland.

2. Leenderts Barentsen Cool born ca 1647 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Maritje Cornelis.

3. Pieter Cool born ca 1649 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Jannetje Dingman.

4. Cornelis Cool born ca 1652 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Jannetje Lambertz.

5. Symen Cool born March 27, 1661 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Anna Hendrixon on October 2, 1681.

6. Barent Cool born November 18, 1663 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He died young.

7. Barent Cool born February 1, 1665 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

8. Arent Cool born March 7, 1666 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.


Willem Van Vredenberg was born January 1, 1637 in The Hague, Holland. His parents were Willem Isaacsen Van Vredenberg and Cornelia Jans. He died after 1704. He arrived May 17, 1658 in New Netherland on the good ship "Gilded Beaver". He married Appolonia Barretsen Cool on October 19, 1664 in New Amsterdam, New Netherland.

Their eleven children were:

1. Isaac Van Vredenberg born October 4, 1665 in New York City, NY. He married Rachel Bogaard on November 26, 1725 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

2. Cornelia Van Vredenberg born December 14, 1667 in New York City, NY. She married Cornelis Van Esslestine on February 23, 1685 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

3. *Maytje (Maria) Van Vredenberg born November 3, 1669 in New York City, NY. She married Jan Hendrickson Kortreght on November 3, 1700 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. She died before 1711.

4. Elisabeth Van Vredenberg born ca 1670 in New York City, NY. She married William Van Varick in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

5. Johannes Van Vredenberg born October 21, 1671 in New York City, NY. He married Johanna de la Montagne September 12, 1696 New York City, NY.

6. Annetje Van Vredenberg born October 8, 1673 New York City, NY. She married Hendrick Rosekrans January 3, 1697 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. She died before 1721 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

7. Ariaentje Van Vredenberg born December 8, 1675 New York City, NY.

8. Willem Van Vredenberg born December 22, 1677 New York City, NY. He married Heyltje Van Etten November 12, 1699 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

9. Abraham Van Vredenberg born January 27, 1682 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married (1) I. Paersil in 1706, (2) D. Coljer in 1714 both marriages took place in New York City, NY.

10. Jannetje Van Vredenberg born April 6, 1684 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. She married Albert Van Garden June 13, 1704 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

11. Rachel Van Vredenberg born November 6, 1687 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

 

Hendrick Jansen Kortreght was born ca 1648 in Belguim Province, Holland. His parents were Jan Jansen von Bredstedt and Marritje Lucas. He arrived in New Netherland in 1663 on the good ship "Bridled Cow". He married Catharine Hansen Weber ca 1672 in Haarlem, NY. Her father was Hans Weber who died in Haarlem,NY in 1649. His [Hendrick's] complete name, according to Holland Society records, was Hendrick Jansen Kortreght Van Beest. [According to a source on the Rootsweb Dutch Colonies List, this ship was known as the "Brindled Cow" or more accurately translated as the "Spotted Cow." The word "brindled' means spotted. Hendrick Kortreght's Dutch name translated into modern English would be Henry Kortreght, son of Jan, from Beest - RNW].

Hendrick and Catharine's eight children were:

1. *Jan Hendrickson Kortreght born ca 1674 in Haarlem, NY. He married Maria Van Vredenberg November 3, 1700 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

2. Hendrick Kortreght born ca 1676 in Rochester, NY. He married (1) Marritje De Witt on November 3, 1700 (divorced by 1702) then he married (2) Catharina Krom.

3. Geertje Kortreght born July 23, 1682 in Rochester, NY. She married Abraham Schut April 23, 1714.

4. Ary Kortreght born May 18, 1684 in Rochester, NY.

5. Laurens Kortreght born July 24, 1688 in Rochester, NY. He married Zara Ten Eyck December 21, 1715.

6. Pieter Kortreght born January 4, 1697 in Rochester, NY. He married Marytjen Van Garden January 9, 1716.

7. Cathryn Kortreght born July 9, 1699 in Rochester, NY. She married Theunis Middag September 13, 1728.

8. Cornelis Kortreght (no information)

 

Jan Hendrickson Cortreght was born ca 1674 in Haarlem, NY. He married Maria Van Vredenberg November 3, 1700 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. After Maria's death ca 1711 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. Jan married his second wife Elizabeth Van Kampen. All six of his children were by his first wife Maria Van Vredenberg.

Their six children were:

1. Willem Cortreght born August 4, 1701 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY.

2. Hendrick Cortreght born July 1, 1704 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Garret Van Benschoten October 11, 1730.

3. *Appolonia Cortreght born August 11, 1706 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. She married Jacob Westfael ca 1733 and died ca 1756.

4. Arien Cortreght born February 11, 1709 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Elizabeth Cool.

5. Johannes Cortreght born May 25, 1712 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. He married Margriet Dennmarke ca 1783.

6. Maria Cortreght born March 6, 1715 in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. She married Evert Roosa Westbroeck.
