Apaline Kelley Allender (1848-1927)

Apaline Kelley Allender was born on May 8, 1848, at Kelley Mountain, near Beverly, Randolph County, W.V. being the daughter of Dolbeare and Margaret Kittle Kelly, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Brown Vanscoy, of a complication of diseases on December 9, 1927,being 79 years, 7 months, and one day old.

On February 28, 1868 she was united in marriage to Thomas A. Allender and lived on a farm in Randolph County until coming to Porterwood.

She united with the Methodist Church over forty years ago, and was a member at the time of her death; and was well known in the community where she lived.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband and the following children: Mrs. H.L.Hansford of Porterwood; Mrs Columbus Hansford of Kerens; Mrs Celia Shumacher of Parsons; Mrs Walter Vanscoy of Kerens Mrs. H.F. Kelley of Parsons; Mrs. Brown Vanscoy of Porterwood; A.F. Allender of Parsons; and G.D. Allender of Elkins. One Brother, Noah Kelley and one sister, Mrs.Carl Douglas, both of Huntington.

She has 45 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Impressive funeral ceremonies were held at the Porterwood church on Sunday afternoon 2:00 being conducte by the Rev. T.W. Hayes, afterwhich burial was made in the Porterwood Cemetery.

This is the first break in the family circle, and if Mrs. Allender had lived until the 28th of February, she would have celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary.
