Morris A. Shannon

Morris Allen Shannon, 61, a resident of Dailey, entered eternal rest at his home at Dailey on Wednesday morning surrounded by loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 2, 1943, in Valley Bend, a son of the late Hiram and Reva Kittle Shannon.

On July 19, 1969, in Mill Creek, he was married to Linda Jewel Coffman Shannon, who survives at Dailey.

Also surviving are a son, Justin Allen Shannon, at home; five brothers, Owen E. Shannon, Newton Falls, Ohio, Robert L. Shannon, Arnoldsburg, Harmon “Sonny” Shannon, Dailey, Kenneth Neil Shannon and Benjamin C. Shannon, both of Beverly; and two sisters, Marjorie Snelson, Moundsville, and Geneva Harris, Mill Creek.

Also preceding him in death were four sisters, Hallie Foster, Helen Arbogastm Velma Shannon and Ruby Swanson, and two brothers, Nelson Shannon and Charles Shannon.

Mr. Shannon was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1963 where he played basketball under Coach Weber. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was employed as a correctional officer at the Huttonsville Correctional Center prior to his retirement on Oct. 31, 1998. Mr. Shannon was a member of the National Rifle Association, was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors. He was affiliated with the Faith Baptist Chapel at Beverly.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville where the presentation of the American flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520 in memory of Mr. Shannon. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Morris Allen Shannon.  From .
