Thomas Tenney

Thomas J. "Jeff" Tenney, 92, a resident of the Adolph Community, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

He was born Feb. 10, 1912, at Hemlock, a son of the late Thomas J. Tenney and Nancy K. Kittle Tenney.

On Jan. 9, 1931, at Palace Valley, he was married to Violet Emma Daniels Tenney, who preceded him hi death.

He is survived by four daughters, Judith Phillips and husband, Bob, and Dorthy Harlan and husband, Bill, all of Adolph, Janet Broschart of Cassity and Pamela Finlen and husband, Ronald, of Mill Creek; one son, William Tenney, and wife, Linda, of Tallmansville; two daughters-in-law, Maxine Tenney of Gettysburg, Pa., and Ellen Tenney of Cassity; one sister, Blanch Ball of New Jersey; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his in-laws; Robert and Cora Daniels; three sons, James, Thomas Jr. and Jerry Tenney; six brothers, Sam, Dave, Pete, Conrad, Ed and Simmion Tenney; four sisters, Cindy, Ina, Wilda and Jemima; one granddaughter, Crystal Phillips; and one great-grandson, Austin Finlen.

He worked many years in the coal mines and in the woods as a timber cutter and was an expert teamster. He enjoyed farming, gardening and trail riding with his family and friends. He also enjoyed horse shows and sales and never knew a stranger. He had many many friends. He always expressed how much he thought of his grandchildren, Shawn, R.J., Shelby, Chad, Kodi, Guyanna, Toni and Travis, and his special friend, Patty Simmons, all of whom visited with him often. He was a Methodist by faith.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mill Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Charlie Ford and the Rev. Randy Long officiating. Interment will follow. At the request of the deceased, flowers are to be omitted. Memorial contritions may be made to the Mill Creek Cemetery in care of Evelyn Parrack, P.O. Box 4, Mill Creek, W.Va. 26280 in memory of Mr. Tenney. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Thomas J. (Jeff) Tenney
