James Edmond "Jim" Richardson
Mr. James Edmond Richardson, 67, of Cross Lanes died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Born June 28, 1936, he was the son of the late James Camp Richardson, b.Toana, James City, Va. ,and Macy Lee Basham Richardson, b.Streeter, Summers County, W.Va.
A wonderful son, brother, father, and grandfather who always put his family first, he is survived by: two sisters and one brother-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Cantrell of Nitro, Macy Lee Varian and husband, William Fred Varian, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Edmond Richardson Jr., and wife, Donna (Ingram), of Sissonville, Joseph Eugene Richardson, and wife, Beth (Brecker), of Winfield, W.Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen Valerie Richardson Pritchard and husband, Glen "Jody", of West Hamlin, W.Va. seven grandchildren, Jasmine Viola Richardson of Marin County, Calif., Valerie Nichole Pritchard of Huntington, James Camp "J.C." Richardson of Charleston, Jodie Michele Pritchard of West Hamlin, Barbara Irene Richardson of Winfield, Joseph Charles Richardson of Winfield, Isaac Castelle Richardson of Sissonville; one great-granddaughter, Jhaisey Nevaeh Richardson of Charleston; one step-grandson, Clayton Joshua Chapman of Sissonville; longtime companion, Betty Stanley of Hurricane; a host of wonderful nieces and nephews; two special family members, Robert Michael Sellards of Huntington and Krisha Michelle Hartley of Charleston; and many, many loved ones, friends, and genealogy buddies.
He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation, (now Dow Chemical), where he was a chemical analyst. He had also been a Gazette Carrier Boy in 1950, and was employed for a time at the Diamond Department Store. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School and Nitro High School, where he graduated in 1954. He also attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston.
He was a veteran of the Armed Forces, honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1961 after being stationed in Biloxi, Miss., and Ankara, Turkey.
He was a 1950 survivor of Polio, after spending five weeks in Marmet Hospital for Crippled Children; he regained full use of his legs which at the time were partially paralyzed by the disease.
He served as Scout Master for several years of Boy Scout Troop 77, Tyler Mountain.
A master genealogist, he wrote and had published numerous books for various family names including the Bashams, Lillys, and Shrewsburys.
He was a member of several organizations including: The Boone County Genealogical Society, The Lilly Family Reunion Association Inc., and the Nitro Class Reunion Committee for the Class of 1954.
Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2004.
Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004, with the Rev. William Layne officiating. Burial will be at a later date with a private graveside service at the Basham Cemetery at Panthers Knob, Summers County, W.Va.
