Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Jacob H. BRISTOR


         Jacob H. Bristor, son of Robert and Delilah Bristor, was born in Pennsylvania in 1830 and moved to West Virginia in 1857 where he took a position as a teacher. During the Civil war, he served three years in the Union army, as captain of Company H, 12th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. This regiment participated in about 20 battles and skirmishes. He served one year, from 1866-1867, as a member of the West Virginia legislature representing Taylor County and, in the fall of 1866, was elected treasurer of the State of West Virginia, serving a term of two years.

         In 1868, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jacob H. Bristor and Jane B. Moore, daughter of Dr. William and Jane A. Moore, were married. In 1869, they moved to Berkeley County where Jacob became a real estate broker and insurance agent. The couple had two sons: Charlie M. Bristor, 1870-?; and Willie M. Bristor, 1872-?.
