Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Wilson P. COE


         Wilson P. COE was born in Berkeley County, West Virginia, in 1829, and was the son of Dr. Ebenezer and Mary (Wilson) Coe. His father was born near Morristown, New Jersey and his mother was a native of Berkeley County. Dr. Ebenezer Coe graduated from the University Medical College, New York, in 1815.

         William Wilson, Mr. Coe’s maternal grandfather, was a wholesale merchant in Gerrardstown and sold to 10 merchants who packed across the mountains on mules during the latter part of the 18th century.

         On June 18, 1851, Wilson P. Coe married Fannie V. Trent in Cumberland County, Virginia; she was born in that county in 1831. Their children were: Mary W. Coe, August 17, 1852-?, moved to Lexington, Virginia; Eliza Dean Coe, March 22, 1854-?; Anna H. Coe, January 15, 1856-?; Fanny T. Coe, September 30, 1857-?; Wilson T. Coe, November 18, 1859-?; William E. Coe, July 27, 1861-?; and Francis D. Coe, December 7, 1864-?.

         Fannie V. Trent’s parents were William A. and Eliza S. (Dean) Trent, residents of Cumberland County, Virginia. Her father was a physician.

         Wilson P. Coe was a farmer and stock-raiser in Gerrardstown, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
