Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Henry Columbus MILLER


         Henry Columbus MILLER, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Rine) Miller, was born in Allegheny County, Maryland, on September 28, 1830, and moved to Berkeley County April 1, 1879. Henry C.’s father was born in Lititz, Pennsylvania in 1781 and is of German descent. He first married Elizabeth Eichelberger of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1802 and they had 11 children. She died in 1825, and in 1826 he married Elizabeth Rine; they had five children, including Henry C. She was born in York, Pennsylvania March 3, 1795, the youngest of four children, three of whom lived to be more than 80 years old. His business was bookbinding and he was a Democratic politician. He died August 11, 1841.

         Henry C. married Elizabeth Anna Hutchinson, at Great Cacapon, Morgan County, West Virginia, on March 22, 1859. She was born November 5, 1837 in Great Cacapon to William and Mary Ann (Huff) Hutchinson. Her father was born in Jefferson County, this state, on December 12, 1802, and moved to Morgan County where he married Miss Huff on December 27, 1831. He died March 1, 1874. William Huff’s father, John Hutchinson, was a Baptist minister in Jefferson County.

         Henry C. and Elizabeth Anna Miller had seven children: Albert P. Miller, born August 22, 1860 and died in Great Cacpon; Charles W. Miller, born March 25, 1866, and Robert E. Miller, born January 18, 1869, both lived near his parents in Bunker Hill, Mill Creek District, Berkeley County, West Virginia; and Joseph C. Miller, born September 12, 1871; Anna M.E. Miller, born February 10, 1875; Chloe E. Miller, born October 27, 1877; and Sarah C. Miller, born July 15, 1880, all of whom lived at home in 1884.

         Henry C. served in the Confederate army in the Civil war, a member of Company F, 7th Virginia Cavalry and was a farmer in the Mill Creek District.
