Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Levi PITSNOGLE


         Levi PITSNOGLE, son of Adam and Mary (Miller) Pitsnogle, was born in Little Georgetown, Berkeley County, March 4, 1814. His father was born January 25, 1787 and died February 20, 1838; and his mother, June 12, 1787-March 3, 1855. They settled in Berkeley County in its earliest days. Levi had eight brothers and two sisters, all of whom were deceased by 1884.

         On June 1, 1847, in the Williamsport district, Washington County, Maryland, Levi Pitsnogle and Matilda Long, daughter of David and Mary (Gletner) Long, were married. Miss Long was born in that county on October 22, 1826. The Pitsnogles had 14 children: David C. Pitsnogle, April 2, 1848-?; Samuel E.B. Pitsnogle, September 11, 1849-?; Mary Ann Pitsnogle, October 17, 1850-?; Louisa D. Pitsnogle, February 9, 1851-?; Theodore T. Pitsnogle, December 25, 1853-before 1884; Elizabeth A. Pitsnogle, September 1, 1855-?; Prudence A. Pitsnogle, April 21, 1857-?; Cora M. Pitsnogle, March 10, 1859-?; Abram Lincoln Pitsnogle, December 16, 1861-?; Jephtha E. Pitsnogle, January 11, 1863-?; Daniel D.L. Pitsnogle, October 27, 1864-?; Addy Pitsnogle, April 9, 1866-before 1884; William H. Pitsnogle, January 14, 1868-?; and Dora Pitsnogle, June 1, 1872-?.

         Mr. Pitsnogle served as member of the school board and was a farmer in the Falling Waters district. His mailing address was Bedington, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
