Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Daniel RIKER

         Daniel RIKER, a son of William L. and Catherine (Brinckerhoff) Riker, was born in Astoria, Long Island, New York, January 30, 1821, and moved to Berkeley County in 1878. His parents remained in New York. He is a descendant of Holmes Riker, the first settler on Long Island.

         Daniel Riker first married Eliza Jane Penfold, in New York; she died at Newton, Long Island. In 1866, he married his second wife, Catharine Flook, who was born in Block House, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Shoup) Flook, of that county. On July 9, 1882, Mr. Riker married Mary M. Schad, daughter of William and Dora (Fausel) Schad. She was born in Germany on November 30, 1850. Daniel Riker was the father of 10 children: Alonzo D. Riker, October 19, 1847-?, lived in New York; Catherine M. Riker, December 1, 1849-?; Emma Louisa Riker, November 9, 1851-?, lived in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; Evalina C. Riker, May 23, 1853-?, lived at Martinsburg; Harriet P. Riker, December 17, 1855-?, lived at Williamsport; Ida V.A. Riker, June 9, 1859-?, lived at Williamsport; Edward L., March 7, 1864-July 18, 1864; John P. Riker, October 9, 1866-December 12, 1866; Alta J. Riker, March 25, 1868-?, lived at Martinsburg; and Margaret Riker, July 18, 1870.

         Trucking is the occupation of Daniel Riker and he lived in the Opequon district, with a mailing address of Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
