Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Thomas H. STALEY


         Thomas H. STALEY, son of John A. and Charlotte (Hinkle) Staley, was born June 29, 1848, in Frederick County, Maryland, in which state and county both of his parents died. He moved to Berkeley County in 1867 and was a resident of the Opequon district where he was a blacksmith. Thomas Staley was of English descent and his paternal grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. His grandparents were among the earliest settlers of Maryland, and his maternal grandfather still lived there in 1884.

         In Berkeley County, on April 27, 1875, Thomas Staley and Nancy H. Miller were married. Born in that county on September 29, 1849, Miss Miller was the daughter of James D. and Eliza (Ramsburg) Miller, natives of that county. Children born to Thomas and Nancy Staley were: Emma Estella Staley, October 6, 1877-?; Lotta Miller Staley, March 16, 1880-?; and James Howard Staley, September 27, 1881-?.
