Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Jacob S. TRAMMELL


         Jacob S. TRAMMELL, the son of Philip and Sarah (Sperow) Trammell, was born at Opequon Mills, Berkeley County, August 14, 1844. His father, deceased by 1884, was born in Fairfax County, Virginia and his mother was a native of Berkeley County.

         Jacob Trammell first married at “Sunny Side,” near Charlestown, West Virginia, to Elizabeth Marshall, daughter of John and Sarah Marshall, on May 29, 1866. She was born near Summit Point, Jefferson County, that state, May 28, 1844, and died May 28, 1879. Before her death, she and Jacob Trammell had seven children: John Marshall Trammell, September 21, 1867-?; Cora Lee Trammell, April 7, 1870-?; Sallie May Trammell, January 13, 1872-?; Philip Guy Trammell, September 13, 1873-?; Albert Berkeley Trammell, May 23, 1875-before 1884; and twins William Ernest Trammell and Jacob Raymond Trammell, born May 28, 1877. Jacob Raymond died before 1884.

         His second marriage was to Maria F. Hollman, daughter of Benjamin F. and Caroline (Foster) Hollmann, and born in Williamsport, Maryland, April 7, 1845. They were married in that city on November 30, 1881.

         Jacob Trammell was the school commissioner for the Independent School district, Martinsburg, and was a merchant in that city, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
