Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Henry C. WELSHHANS

         Henry C. WELSHHANS was the son of Henry and Ellen (Voorhees) Welshhans and was born April 29, 1829. Henry C.ís father, Henry, was born in York County, Pennsylvania and, after settling in Berkeley County in 1793, acquired the farm which eventually went to his son. That farm was in the Opequon district, with a post office address of Martinsburg.

         In Hagerstown, Maryland, Henry C. married Catherine E. Dalwick, who was born in Martinsburg on October 8, 1841, the daughter of John and Catherine E. (Schlummp) Dalwick. Her parents were both born in Germany and emigrated to America in 1838. Henry C. and Catherine E. Welshhans had two children: Frances V. Welshhans, February 22, 1860-?; and an infant child, who died. Frances V. married George S. Light, son of H.J. Light, also of the Opequon district, and they had the following children: Elizabeth Leuella, September 18, 1877-?; Anna Virginia, August 15, 1878-?; Hamilton Henry, July 3, 1880-?; and Fanny Louisa, March 31, 1882-?.
