CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT HOME HERE |
Trouble Following Attack of Pneumonia Leon G. Brown, 84 years old, a vet- eran of the Union army and for many years a well known resident of Huntington died at his home, 220 Bellevue road, at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Heart trouble following pneumonia was the cause of death. Mr. Brown had been ill since December. After an apparent recovery from a pneumonia attack he suffered a relapse from which he was unable to rally. Mr. Brown came to Huntington in 1884 from Jamestown, N.Y. During most of his life of almost half a century here he was connected with the lumber business, but in recent years had been in semi-retirement. He was a member of Western Star Lodge No. 11, A.F. & A.M., and of Huntington Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church. He was a widower, his wife having died in 1913. One son, G. M. Brown, of the Chesapeake & Ohio freight department, survives him. His body was removed to the Arthur Funeral Home and will subsequently be taken to Jamestown, N.Y. for burial. -The Huntington Herald-Dispatch, Friday Morning, March 1, 1929 |
