JOSEPH U. CRAWFORD Mr. Crawford, a veteran of the Civil War, was one of the best known engineers in the United States, having served as an expert in the construction of railroads in this country and in Japan. He was twice decorated for valiant service during the building of railroads in Japan by the government of that country. He had also served as a consulting engineer for the United States government in Cuba. While a student in the University of Pennsylvania, he enlisted in the Union army during the Civil War. He took part in many of the important engagements of that war. He was the owner of a large estate in Flordia. His son Stephen Crawford, who was formerly a partner with Cyrus B. Van Bibber, attorney, of this city, is now a banker in Maimi, Fla. -The Huntington Herald-Dispatch, Thursday Morning, November 27, 1924 |
