Husband Notes: Burrel Forgey General: Burrel Forgey married Amanda E Brooks 7/14/1888. On the night of 12/13/1892, Burrell and Tom Collins boarded the FFV Chesapeake and Ohio train #4, which left Huntington, W. Va. a few minutes after midnight and while the train was still in the Huntington yards, attempted a train robbery in the most approved wild west style. Both men wore masks and each was armed, and it is said they had carefully rehearsed the holdup. They entered the day coach from the rear and Burrell walked to the front end of the coach and turned around with a pistol in each hand and covered the passengers. Collins was to do the collecting. One of the passengers, a German named Oscar Tueck, who was returning to his home in Saxony, jumped up and threw Burrell to the floor and one or more passengers went to his assistance. Both Collins and Burrell began to fire and Tueck was killed. Another passenger named Peter Drake was wounded. Zingerley, the Chesapeake and Ohio train collector came on the scene and promptly opened fire on the robbers. The train was stopped and the robbers got off but were arrested afterwards, tried and convicted of murder, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Some years later both were pardoned. Collins died a few years after his release but Burrell was arrested in Kentucky on another charge and commited suicide while in prison. In the trial, the witness Drake testified that the negro porter had gone through the coach just as the robbers entered the train and when asked if the porter was moving rapidly the witness answered, "he seemed to be making quite an effort". (There are many newspaper stories to prove this story) This info from 'CABELL CO. ANNALS & FAMILIES", Pg. 213 by Geo. S. Wallace at the Ohio St. Library.
