EDGAR BROWN BLUNDON


Edgar Brown Blundon was born in Morgan Co., Ohio 24 Sept 1836 . His parents were James Franklin Coleman Pendleton Blundon and Elizabeth Ann Nicholson. On September 15, 1861 Edgar Blundon enlisted as a Private in the Eighth Virginia Infantry regiment of the Union Army. During his service in Va/WV he was promoted to Major. 29 September 1863 He was married to Sarah Frances Young in Winfield, Putnam Co. WV. January 26, 1864 the regiment's designation was changed to the Seventh West Virginia Cavalry. Sarah Blundon gave birth to a baby girl, Maud, who died as an infant. 17 Dec. 1865 Sarah and Edgar had a daughter, Nina Franklin Cary Blundon. In 1868, another daughter, Elizabeth P.N. Blundon. Edgar Blundon was a deeply religious man and hoped to become a minister of the gospel of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In early 1865 he was employed by same as a circuit riding preacher in Putnam Co. In Mar., 1866 he was transferred to serve in Malden area of Kanawha County. Late 1860s and early 1870s he was stationed at Burning Springs in Wirt County. He died there March 6, 1873 at age 36, A tribute to Edgar Brown Blundon is written in Promoted Pioneer Preachers of the West Virginia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church edited by Dr. George Cleaton Wilding.
