Preston Conner, son of William Conner and Susannah Kendall , was born 1863 in Clarke County, Kentucky. Preston moved into West Virginia about 1816. His father, William received a 100 acre land grant on Mud Creek in Cabell County, West Virginia in 1813 and about 1816 he moved his family to this property.
Preston’s siblings born in Clarke Co., Kentucky were James (1806-1883), Andrew (1807-1890) and Lucenda (1809-1887). Two brothers, and one sister were born in Cabell County, West Virginia. They were William, Jr. (1819-1856), Elizabeth (1820-1845) and Mary (1821- ).
Preston was the only one to leave Cabell County. He first went by horseback to Covington, Virginia about 1843 where he married Rachel Kendall. Then they moved to Kanawha County in 1845 and raised 10 children. He was a farmer and turnpike contractor in Elk District.
Preston and his wife, Rachel, raised ten children in Kanawha County: Ezra Walker (1844-1882), Elias Wilson (1845-1885), Joel Preston 1847-1903), William Conwelsey (1850-1935), George Kendall (1852-1916), John Henry (1854-1936), James Edgar (1856-1857), Virginius Elliott (1858-1892), Charles Lawrence (1861- ) and Floyd Mason (1863-1943). Elias married Sarah Ann McCullough, Joel married Elizabeth Josephine Kendall, George married Jane M. Rhodes, John married Mary Jane Farrier, Virginius married Elizabeth Matheny and Floyd married Lucy Calarenda Wilson.
