James Falkner
I am trying to track down some - perhaps living - family. In my mother's letters, there is an empty envelop addressed to my g-grandfather, Samuel McMurtry from Mrs. J.H. Hilton, 701 West Ave., Charleston, W.Va., dated April 6, 1935. Mom says she was a niece of his. I would like to know who this lady was - given the generation/time line, I doubt very seriously that she is living. Probably died late 30's/early 40's. Perhaps there is still living family with whom I could correspond or determine this woman's family/father in order to establish a link with my own g-grandfather. Thanks. /Jim/ on 5:37 PM 2/1/99

I am looking for any info. on John William CUNNINGHAM b. 28 Oct1878. I have been unable to locate a birth cert. Family rumor states that he was probably an illegitimate child. His father is said to be a HAYNES. John lived in the Big Chimney/Elkview area. I would very much like to determine at least who his mother was. He married Letha Alice JONES, daughter of Wilson JONES and Sarah BURDETT. I would also appreciate any info. on the JONES and BURDETT families of the Big Chimney/Elkview area. on 6:36 AM 2/4/99

am looking for any info. on the lineage of Samuel Lewis TEEL b. 24 Feb 1837 at Mile Fork, Kanawha Co. I think he may be the son of James Peter TEEL and Susan NEWCOMER. Some sources say they were from Kanawha Co. while others say they were from Rockbridge Co., VA. I have been unable to trace them any further. Sam served in the Union army, 13th Reg. Inf. Co. A. He had 3 wives. The first was Louisa Ann MACE. They were married on 29 March 1860 in Kanawha Co. I think she was the daughter of Jacob MACE and wife Annie. Could he be the same Jacob who served in the Union army, 7th WV Cavalry? I would also appreciate any info. on the MACE family of the Big Chimney/Elkview area. I know that Sam and Louisa are buried in the Mace cemetery on Coopers Creek. Would anyone know the origins of the cemetery? on 6:36 AM 2/4/99

They had two daughters, Miram CONLIN b.1901 & Bernice CONLIN b. 1905 in Charleston, WVA. Kanawha Co. I would like to know who Miriam and Bernice married. Anna CLORAN CONLIN died in 1951. am looking for the family of my great grandfather Coleman Powers . His parents were Smith Powers and Martha Gillilan who were married in Jackson County, Ohio in 1856. Coleman was married to ,or had a child with Mary Proctor. This daughter was Hazel Powers (Curtis), my grandmother. She was born in 1900. He soon married (or re-married) and had two sons Carl Powers and Harold Powers. They would have most likely been born 1906-1912. We know through a will in the family in the 60's that they were living at that time in the Charleston and Belle, WV areas. He was the editor of the Kanawha Valley Democrat before the Charleston Gazette.Is listed in the West Virginia Heritage Encyclopedia as being a deputy sheriff in Kanawha County in 1888.The famous Estep and Dawson murder case. Where they were lynched at Campbells Creek. Children of Flintlock and Fanny were Mary L,Thomas E, Fanny L, Nannier R, Ike S, Stephen R, Virginia B..
