Jamie A. Sheets, 79

Jamie A. Sheets, 79 of Green Bank, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Sheets was born Jan. 13, 1922, at Arbovale and was the son of the late Henry P. and Nettie Sutton Sheets.

He was a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church, Riverside Lodge #124 Cass, Cass Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion, VFW, Scottish Rite of Charleston, and Durbin Lions Club. He was also a WWII Navy Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Myers Elliott Sheets; a daughter, Rebecca O'Brien of Franklin, a son, Robert A. Sheets of Green Bank; a step-daughter, Lori Warner of Green Bank; a step-son, James Elliott of Surfside Beach, SC; a sister Susan Slavens of Brookfield, OH; a brother Orville Sheets of Green Bank; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice Blackhurst Sheets; a brother, Gay Sheets; and a sister Delora Yates.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. at Liberty Presbyterian Church at Green Bank with the Revs. Julian Rittenhouse and Doyle Kester officiating. Burial followed in the Arbovale Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to B.F.D. Fire and Rescue Department, Liberty Presbyterian Church, or Green Bank Public Library.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale was in charge of arrangements.


Ruth Trumbo Finley, 93

Ruth Trumbo Finley, 93, Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at the nursing home.

Mrs. Finley was born Nov. 15, 1908, in Milam and was a daughter of the late George C. Trumbo, Sr. and Martha Smith Trumbo.

She graduated from Saint John's Academy and Shepherd College. She taught and served as principal for 13 years in Hardy County schools and was office manager for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Baltimore, MD, for 31 years. She was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian church.

In 1939, she married George Finley, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Mildred S. Greathouse of Winchester, VA; one nephew, Craig W. Greathouse, Winchester, VA; two nieces, Rebecca Bates, Vienna, VA, and Jo Jordan, Fairfax, VA; and one sister-in-law, Josie Trumbo, Franklin.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, George and Ralph Trumbo, Franklin.

The Rev. Bruce McBeth and Dr. Paul O'Gorek conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church. Burial was at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moorefield Presbyterian Church or the Hardy County Public Library, Moorefield, WV.

Arrangements were under the direction of Elmore Funeral Home, Moorefield.


Annie Ruth Hoover

Annie Ruth Hoover, 66, of Brandywine, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Hoover was born March 5, 1935, in Sugar Grove and was a daughter of the late Pink Losh and Edna Simmons Losh.

She was a homemaker and retired from the Hanover Shoe Company in Franklin. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Luther Hoover; a daughter, Nnacy Enyart, Sugar Grove, five sons, Jesse Losh, Roger Hoover and James Hoover, all of Brandywine, George Hoover, Kearneysville, and Melvin Hoover, Sugar Grove; two sisters, Peggy Huffer, Mount Solon, VA, and Erma Moats, Sugar Grove; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two half sisters, Lydia Varner, and Betty Losh; and two sisters, Betty Jane, and an infant girl.

The Rev. Dennis Shoemaker will conduct the funeral at 11 at Riverside United Methodist Church in Brandywine. Burial will be at St. Michael's Church Cemetery, Sugar Grove.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of angels.


Pauline F. Nelson, 70

Pauline Frances Nelson, 70, a resident of 1000 Topaz Circle, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA, where she had been a patient for over two weeks.

Mrs. Nelson was born March 7, 1931, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ellen Marie Oats Rice.

She was a homemaker and attended the First Assembly of God.

On Sept. 17, 1949, she married Bruce A. Nelson, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Danny Nelson and Bruce (Buddy) Nelson, both of Harrisonburg, VA; a daughter, Kathy Porter, Harrisonburg, VA; a brother, Roy Lee Hartman, Harrisonburg, Va; a sister, Myrtle Peterson, Arlington, VA; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pastor Jeff Ferguson and Pastor Tim McAvoy conducted a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Assembly of God, Garbers Church Road. Burial followed at Mount Clinton Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the McMullen Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisonburg, VA.


Eddie Arnold Siron, 63

Eddie Arnold Siron, 63, of Mcdowell, VA, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at his residence.

Mr. Siron was born Nov. 12, 1938, in Highland County, VA, the son of the late William Homer and Della Mae Simmons Siron.

He was a member of the Franklin Independent Baptist Church and also attended Highland Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was employed at Westinghouse for 23 years.

Surviving are his wife, Gaynelle Siron of McDowell, VA; two daughters, Sherrie Lynn Siron of The Springs Nursing Center, and Kelly S. Botkin of Monterey, VA; a son Timothy A. Siron of the home; four sisters, Charlotte Simmons and Thelma Pultz, both of Staunton, VA, Doris Armstrong of McDowell, VA, and Gail Bowers of Franklin; two brothers, Olen Carroll Siron of Swoope, VA, and James Siron of McDowell, VA; three granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Jerry Ginn conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Obaugh Fuenral Home in McDowell, VA. Burial followed at the McKendree Cemetery.
