Mary Martha Moyers, 82

Mary Martha Moyers, 82, of Franklin died Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

She was born July 1, 1928, at Franklin and was the daughter of the late Ocie J. Shrader and Tiva Thelma DePriest Shrader.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.

Mrs. Moyers and her son, Bucky, enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and relatives by telephone.

On June 24, 1947, she married Conley Jesse Moyers, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1998.

Surviving are one daughter, Wanda M. Sheets of Bridgewater, VA; two sons, Ocie Dee “Bucky” Moyers of Franklin and Arthur William Moyers of Spokane, WA; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, one daughter, one sister, two brothers and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastors Daryl Ritchie and Dan Ludwick officiating. Burial will be at the Judy Family Cemetery at Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Betty H. Melton

Betty Adeline Hedrick Melton, 81, of Culpeper, VA, died Jan 10, 2011, at Fauquier Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1929, at Friends Run, a daughter of the late Luther David Hedrick and Gertrude Bowers Hedrick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley M. Melton.

After her husband’s death, Mrs. Melton learned to drive and completed her training to become a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for 20 plus years, helping many people in her career. She was a longtime member and elder of Litchfield Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer with Literacy Volunteer in Fauquier and Culpeper Counties for 15 years.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Johnie D. And Debbie Melton of Sumerduck, VA, Jackie S. and Bennie Melton of Gloucester, NC, Cathy M. And James R. Brown of Sumerduck, VA, G. Kay Melton of Remington, VA, and JoAnn and Steve Lomax of Warrenton, VA; 10 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Lacy and Brooks Hedrick; and two sisters, Velma Dahmer of Franklin and Mary Sprouse.

Services were held Saturday at the Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton, VA, with Rev. J. Richard Winter officiating. Interment was in Remington Cemetery.

Eileen Dove

Eileen (Hiser) Dove, 85, of Mozer died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

She was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Landes and was a daughter of the late Bert F. Hiser and Minnie J. (Stump) Hiser.

Mrs. Dove graduated from Petersburg High School in 1944 and taught school in Grant County for several years.

She and her husband had owned and operated Dove’s Store in Mozer, until 2009. She served as assistant postmaster in the early 1960's.

She was a member of the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Mozer and the Order of the Eastern Star 138 of Franklin. She was an avid family historian and loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Dove, on July 28, 2009.

Surviving are one son, Larry Dove and wife, Doris of Mozer; one daughter, Cathy Dove of Harrisonburg, VA; two grandchidren, Clifton Dove and Beth Dove, both of Mozer; one sister, Mary Frances Pryor of Mt. Nebo; and one brother, Roy F. Hiser of Cincinnati, OH.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, J. Ronald Hiser, Robert Q. Hiser, Warren P. Hiser and J. Keith Hiser; and one sister, Elaine Hiser Ours.

The Eastern Star conducted services at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg Tuesday evening.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church at Mozer with Rev. Rita Beeman officiating. Interment was in the Kline Cemetery, Kline.

Odith Ira Vandevander

Odith Ira Vandevander, 72, of Riverton passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. He was born at Hawbush, near Cherry Grove, on Sept 28, 1938, the son of the late Jimmie and Norma Lambert Vandevander.

Mr. Vandevander worked at Allegheny Wood in Riverton and was a member of the North Fork Church of the Brethren.

His wife, Shirley Dice Sites, survives in Onego.

Also surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Vandevander and Galen Arbaugh of Circleville and Donna Bennett of Seneca Rocks; a sister, Yvonne Bennett of Cherry Grove, a half sister, Sherry Kisamore of Harrisonburg, VA; three grandchildren, April Vandevander, Derek Arbaugh and Roxanne Kee and Shawn Arbaugh and Virginia Hoover; six great-grandchildren, Mckenzie, Grant, Madison, Brandon, Bailey and Brianna Arbaugh; several special nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Douglas Vandevander; and three sisters, Sue Warlightner, Dessie Mae Vandevander and Gladys Wisman.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Minister Danny Arbogast officiating. Interment was in the Dice Family Cemetery, Timber Ridge.

Robert Kisamore, 20

Robert Lynn Kisamore, 20, of Staunton, VA, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

He was born Oct 2, 1990, in Staunton, VA, a son of Robert E. And Lisa Lynn (Sandridge) Kisamore.

Mr. Kisamore was employed by Western State Hospital.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are one brother, Travis E. Kisamore of Staunton, VA; paternal grandparents, Rex and Juanita Kisamore of Staunton, VA; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Sandridge of Staunton, VA; great-grandmother, Sybilla Kisamore of Mount Jackson, VA, and formerly of Seneca Rocks; aunts, Ann Stewart and husband, Anthony of Shelbyville, TN, Amber Kisamore of Staunton, VA, and Candy Brown of Bridgewater, VA; uncles, Rex Kisamore, Jr. of Timberville, VA, Larry and Peggy Kisamore of Churchville, VA, and David and Tina Kisamore of Edinburg, VA; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clyde Sandridge.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel, Staunton, VA, with the Rev. Robert R. Von Oeyen, Jr. Officiating. Burial was at New Providence Church Cemetery.

Richard Anderson, 71

Richard Harold “Andy” Anderson, 71, of Capon Bridge died on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Anderson was born on April 23, 1939, in Riverton, a son of Mable Chloe Irving of Petersburg.

He was security installer for USATrex International, where he spent most of time working for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and was a United States Marine veteran.

His wife Loretta Potter Anderson, whom he married on Dec. 19, 1964, in Washington, DC, survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Irving of South Carolina and Alan Baxter Irving of Virginia.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Carol Sue Irving.

Funeral services were held at the Giffin Funeral Home in Capon Bridge on Sunday with Rev. George Reed officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Nellie E. Davis

Nellie E. Davis, 89, of Fort Seybert died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

She was born March 21, 1921, at Milam and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Davis and Ella May Payne Davis.

She was a homemaker and for 14 years, had been a cook’s helper at The Star Restaurant, having worked there for five different owners. She loved birds, animals and flowers.

Surviving are one sister - Neva Mae Davis of Ft. Seybert; and one brother, William Allen Davis of Ft. Seybert.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Russell Ervin Davis, James Franklin Davis and Roy Arnold Davis.

Graveside services were held Wednesday at the Davis Family Cemetery, Fort Seybert, with Pastor Craig Richter officiating.
