Adam F. Landes, 94.

Adam Fisher Landes, 94, Purgitsville, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Landes was born April 10, 1906, in Upper Tract and was a son of the late Elmer and Hadie Alice Helmick Landes.

He operated the Atlantic Gas and Grocery Store in Short Gap for several years.

His wife, Martha Boswell Landes, died July 20, 1971.

Surviving are a companion, Phyllis High, Purgitsville; a son, Harlan Landes, Lahmansville; a step-son Charlie Boswell, Romney; two daughters, Eulda Mayle, Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, and Loretta Malcolm, Marlinton; a sister, Edna Kimble, Arthur; 22 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at Springfield Hill Cemetery, Springfield.

Vivian Lorraine Huffman, 93

Vivian Lorraine Huffman, 93, Onego, died Thrusday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Grant County Nursing Home where she had lived since Oct. 15, 1993.

Mrs. Huffman was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Elkins and was a daughter of the late Grover Arbaugh and Zenie Cunningham.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Missionary Church in Onego.

Her husband, the Rev. Henry Brian "Doc" Huffman, died Feb. 1, 1980.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie J. and Emma Huffman, Mobile, AL; a half sister, Ardith White, Riverton; four grandchildren, Tammy Linaburg of Franklin, Tommie Divine of Houston, TX, April Henson and John Eric Huffman, both of Mobile, AL; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Bowman and Pastor Jim Tompkins conducted the funeral at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bible Missionary Church in Onego. Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

The Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg was in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle R. Bennett, 93

Myrtle R. (nee Warner) Bennett Sponaugle, 93, of Brooklyn Park, MD, passed away on January 26, 2001, at Mariner Rehab. Center, Glen Burnie, MD

She was the daughter of the late John A. and Ina Waybright Warner of Hunting Ground.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Robert C. "Buzz" Bennett; second husband of 41 years, Bead A. Sponaugle; two sons, Raymond of West Virginia nd Bruce of Cleveland, OH; one daughter, Bernice L. Bennett of West Virginia; granddaughter, Judy A. Bennett of California; grandson Roger Bennett of West Virginia and one step-son, Berlin Sponaugle of Ohio.

She is survived by two sons, Lloyd E. Bennett of Cleveland, OH, and Danny J. Bennett, Sr., of Pasadena, MD; three daughters, Bertie Bennett Maloney of California, Arlene Bennett Fisher of North Carolina, and Shirely Sue Bennett Heffner of Pasadena, MD; one step-daughte, Halene Sponaugle Ogden of Beverly; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on January 30, at 10 a.m. at Kaufman's Fuenral home Chapel. Interment followed at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Elkridge, MD.

Merlee Smith Bowers, 82.

Merlee Smith Bowers, 82, Chesterfield, VA, and formerly of Franklin, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Hodges' Manor, Inc., in Richmond, VA.

Mrs. Bowers was born Oct. 8, 1918, at Ruddle and was the daughter of the late Osce Calvin and Minnie Hedrick Smith.

She was employed at JC Penney and was a member of the Gospel Baptist Church in Richmond, VA.

On Aug. 10, 1936, she married Cletus A. Bowers, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1992.

Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis B. Ascue and Pamela M. Bowers, both of Richmond, VA; a son, Douglas K. Bowers, Wicomico Church, VA; a sister, Kathleen Rogers, Lyons, MI; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Monday at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract, with Jack Bowers officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gospel Baptist Church, 1300 Turner Road, Richmond Va 23225 or the American Heart Association.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Samuel Hugh Rodgers, 57

Samuel Hugh "Sam" Rodgers, 57, Falls Church, Va, and formerly of Petersburg, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Rodgers was born Sept. 18, 1943, in Petersburg and was a son of Ethel V. Pratt Rodgers Sherman of Moorefield and the late Edwin N. Rodgers.

He moved to Washington, DC, area in the late 1950s and began his business, Rodgers Wall Covering, in Falls Church, VA.

In addition to his mothre, he is survived by a daughter, Tina Renee Rodgers, Waldorf, MD; four sisters, Patricia Slifer, Spavinaw, OK, Laura Kemp and Mary Hedrick, both of Maysville and Martha Alt, Upper Tract; seven brothers, Dallas Rodgers, Washington, DC, Clayton Rodgers, Arthur, Forrest Rodgers, Upper Tract, Robert Rodgers, Baltimore, MD, Richard Rodgers, Petersburg, Dawn Rodgers, Moorefield and Douglas Rodgers, Augusta; a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Forrest G. Rodgers conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the Schaeffer Fuernal Home in Petersburg. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Bruce J. Bennett, 72

Bruce J. Bennett, 72, Cleveland, OH, passed away at Fairview Hospital on Dec. 11, 2000.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1928, to Robert C. "Buzz" Bennett and Myrtle Warner Bennett, Cherry Grove.

;He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War. He worked for the Ford Motor Co., until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Bennett of California, his father, Robert, brother, Raymond, a sisater, Bernice, all of West Virginia, and his step-father, Beed Sponaugle of Baltimore, MD.

He is survived by his wife, Delores (nee Nader) of the home; a daughter, Betty Bennett and husband, Robert, Clearmountain, CA, two grandchildren, Alexandria and Lindsay Jackson of California; his mother, Myrtle Bennett Sponaugle of Baltimore, MD; three sisters, Bertie Maloney of California, Arlene Fisher of North Carolina, and Shirley Heffner of Baltimore, MD; and two brothers Lloyd Bennett of Cleveland, OH, and Danny Bennett, Sr., of Pasadena, MD.

Funeral services were by Yurch Funeral Home of Parma, OH. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.

Edwin Carl Kisamore, 82

Edwin Carl Kisamore, 82, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in the Brier Nursing Home, Ronceverte, after a long illness.

Mr. Kisamore was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Davis and was the son of the Mrs. Kertie Harper of Franklin and the late Emory F. Kisamore.

He had been a resident of Fairlea for 27 years, a member of McLean Presbyterian Church, Ronceverte, a member of the NRA and was retired from the Orkin Company.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emory F. Kisamore, his wife, Norma Jean Burns Kisamore, Jan 7, 2001, and one son, Edwin (Butch) Kisamore in 1986.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Carlene Mapes of St. Cloud, FL, and Reba Beaver of Colubus, OH; fous sons, Beverette Kisamore of Blairsville, GA, Roger Kisamore of Columbus, OH, Randy Kisamore of Savannah, GA, and Eddie Kisamore of Caldwell; one sister, Francis Wimer of Cherry Grove; three brothers, Herman Kisamore and Freddie Kisamore, both of Onego, and Ival Kisamore of Charleston; 13 granchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m Tuesday at McLean Presbyterian Church, Ronceverte, with the Rev. William Dent officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Arrangements were under the direction of Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea.
