Lucille C. Tiller
Lucille Compton Tiller, 77, of Franklin died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Tiller was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Riverton and was a daughter of the late George Compton and Sallie Kate Warner Compton.
She was a bank teller in Maryland and was a member of Wayside Baptist church.
On Dec. 2, 1972, she married Robert I. Tiller, III, of Hagerstown, MD, who survives.
She is also survived by a son Thomas Franklin "Frankie" Miller of Franklin; a sister Mabel Irving of Brandywine; a brother, George Compton, Jr., of Moorefield; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Mark McCallister conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at North Fork Cemetery in Riverton.
Rev. Norman M. Nilsen
The Rev. Norman M. Nilsen, 72, of Franklin died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.
Rev. Nilsen was born Aug. 14, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA, and was the son of Nils and Edith Jepson Nilsen.
He earned a B.A. degree in chemical engineering from Temple College and graduated from trinity Seminary in Columbus, OH, in 1967. He was pastor at Mount Pisgah in Bethlehe, NC, St. Lukes in Taylorsville, NC, St. Johns in Columbus, OH, and Prince of Peace in Richmond, VA. In January of 1987, he moved to Moyers and served the St. John's Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, retiring in August of 1998. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
His first wife, Margaret haedrich Nilsen, preceded hi in death oct 21, 1986. They were married June 12, 1954.
He is survived by hissecond wife, Dolly Landis Nilsen, whom he married July 9, 1988.
Also surviving are two daughters, Amy Whaley and husband Robert of Hickory, NC, and Kara J. Propst of Raleigh, NC; three sons, Eric Nilsen of Philadelphia, PA, Alan Nilsen of La Crescenta, CA, and J.J. Propst and wife Crystal of Petersburg; two brothers, Charles Nilsen of Hobe Sound, FL, and Joseph Nilsen of Philadelphia, PA; eight grandchildren, Jason Eric Nilsen and wife, Becky, Kristina Marie Nilsen, Frances Margaret Nilsen, Shannon Michelle Nilsen, Robert Whaley, Tristan Whaley, Dylan Gage Brewer and Dakota Cameron Propst; and two great grandchildren , Isabel Nilsen and Jason Eric Nilsen.
The Revs. Craig and Wendy Richter conducted the funeral at Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Franklin. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin with Military honors by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
