Andrew Dice Bennett

Andrew Dice Bennett, 78, of Petersburg and formerly of Cherry Grove passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA.

He was born on Hunting Ground on Oct. 27, 1932, the son of the late Clem Enders (Dec. 6, 1989) and Nora Kate Lambert Bennett (1945).

Mr. Bennett retired from West Virginia Division of Highways and attended North Fork Church of the Brethren and Hunting Ground School.

His wife, Lucy Wimer Arbaugh Bennett, survives in Petersburg.

Also surviving are a son, Douglas Bennett of Harrisonburg, VA; two step-sons, David M. Arbaugh of Fulks Run, VA, and Luther Arbaugh of Broadway, VA; three step-daughters, Robbie Riggleman of Burlington, Sudie Marie Selmon of Cherry Grove and Nola Thomas of Morningside, MD; four sisters, Cathaline Dean of Harrisonburg, VA, Hazel C. Taylor of Beverly, Lillian Thompson of Bartow and Luna Lee Hagy of Franklin; a brother, Elmer Bennett of Franklin; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Aron; and a daughter, Mary.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev. A. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton.

Pauline Wolfe

Pauline Virginia Nelson Wolfe, 68, of Dorcas, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at her home.

She was born May 8, 1943, in Mineral County and was the daughter of the late Ollie Heavener and Goldie (Goldizen) Heavener.

Mrs. Wolfe worked for Rockingham Poultry and Pilgrim’s Pride. She retired from Hanover Shoe Company in Franklin. She attended Faith Assembly of God Church, Petersburg.

Her husband, Walter E. Nelson, Jr., preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son: Rickey E. Nelson and wife, Debbie of Upper Tract; two daughters: Linda K. Porter and husband, Curtis, Jr., and Dottie S. Shoff and husband, Dennis, all of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Curtis E. Porter, III, Dennis G. Shreve, II and Brandy, Desmond Scott Shreve and wife, Candace, Michelle Meek and Michael Meek; two great-granddaughters, Kailynn Penkov and Annaleise Rockacy; three sisters, Wanda Elkins and Eunice Aldridge, both of Keyser, and Susan Knowles of Reidsville, NC; five brothers, Reggie Heavener, Richard Heavener, Bobby Heavener and Freddie Heavener, all of Keyser, and Junior Heavener of Burlington.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Heavener Kohne.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating. Interment was in the Goldizen Family Cemetery, Jordan Run.

Gladys M. Cooper

Gladys Mae (Mongold) Cooper, 71, of Seneca Rocks died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born on Aug. 21, 1939, in Petersburg and was the daughter of the late Daniel B. Mongold and Beatrice (Hall) Mongold.

Mrs. Cooper was a 1957 graduate of Petersburg High School. She retired from the Department of Health and Human Resources after 45 years. She continued working at the J. C. Penny Catalog Store at Judy’s Drug Store in Petersburg. She also worked for Hedrick’s 4-U Restaurant and the Front Porch Restaurant in Seneca Rocks.

She was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and the former Onego-Seneca Extension Homemakers Club. She enjoyed weaving, gardening, baking and spending time with her family.

Her husband of 52 years, Ray H. Cooper, survives.

Also surviving are one son, Derek Ray Cooper and wife, Charity of Seneca Rocks; two daughters, Debra Ann Arbogast and husband, James, and Cheryl Lynn Phares and husband, Tom, all of Seneca Rocks; five grandchildren, Brandon Arbogast, Whitney Arbogast, Isiah Phares, Carly Copper and Caitlyn Cooper; six sisters, Janet McGee of Church Hill, TN, Phyllis Hedrick of Stephens City, VA. Joan Kuykendall and Diane Smith, both of Petersburg, Joyce Delawder of Arthur and Carolyn Swick of Mendota, VA.

She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Daniel Mongold; and two sisters, Donna Marie Mongold and Agnes Hedrick.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Robert Baer, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in the Cooper-Bible Cemetery, Seneca Rocks.

The family received friends on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald Bennett, 39

Donald Eugene Bennett, 39, of Dayton, VA, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011.

Mr. Bennett was born Dec. 8, 1971, in Rockingham County, VA, and was a son of Patsy Gill Bennett and the late Bernard Bennett.

He lived his entire life in the Rawley Springs, VA, area and was employed at White Wave in Mounty Crawford, VA, for many years.

On June 27, 2009, he married the former Crystal Brooks, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Colby Bennett and Mercedes Bennett; a step-son, Matthew Thompson; a brother, Ricky Bennett and wife, Cathy of Brandywine; a sister, Diana Feddon of Harrisonburg, VA; Robbie Bottenfield, who was like a brother; a grandfather, Emmanuel Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who loved him.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Thelma and Donnie Michael.

A funeral service was held Monday at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, Harrisonburg, VA. Burial followed at Mount Horeb Cemetery.

Yvonne Cooper Webster

Yvonne Estelle Cooper Webster, 93, of Harman, departed this life on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 9:35 p.m. in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center (ERCC).

Her health had been declining since December, 2010. Death was attributed to congestive heart failure. She is now in the care of her Lord and Savior.

She was born on Jan. 26, 1918, a daughter of the late Floyd Mason Cooper and Effie Mae Armstrong Cooper.

She attended the schools in Randolph County and graduated in Franklin.

While in Virginia, she worked and retired from Metro Pants Co. as a seamstress. She later worked at Sunnyside Nursing Home and was a caregiver for several individuals in the Harman area. She was an active member of the Nazarene Church while in Harrisonburg, and the Harman Church of the Brethren.

In 1948, she married Charles “Snook” Webster in Harrisonburg, VA, where she resided for over 50 years. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1977.

She is survived by her last remaining sibling, a beloved sister, Merry Ellen Cooper Dice of Harman with whom she resided since 1992; several nieces and nephews, Hazel Ann and Ray Hesson, Jackie Dwight and Claudia Cooper, Donald Ross and Emma Cooper, Janie Cooper, Joy Vandevander, Merry Lou and Rex Vance, Thomas Worth and Angela Cooper, Harry Armstrong, Jr. And Theresa Cooper, Terry wade and Roxanne Cooper, Jimmy Dean and Denise Cooper; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews, Stacy Sturdivant, Megan Vance, Josh Vandevander, Rex Jay Vance, Jeremy Vance, Merry Jo Ellen Vance, Moriah Warner, Brandy and Chelsey Cooper, Misty and Lee Allen Cooper and Mackenzie Cooper.

She was also preceded in death by her old sister, Freda Susan Yokum on Dec. 2, 2009; brothers, Morris Jim Cooper on Dec. 12, 1975, Worth Jack Cooper, April 12, 1992, Eldon Foch Cooper, March 15, 2003, an Harry Armstrong Cooper, Oct 6, 1996; nephews Robert Morris Cooper and Homer John Yokum; and one niece, Carlin Lorece Cooper.

Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Harman Church of the Brethren with Pastor John Moyers officiating. Interment will follow in the Cooper Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis.

William Hedrick

William Joseph “Joe” Hedrick, 70, of Brandywine died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

He was born Feb. 12, 1941, at Brandywine and was the son of Virgil and Pauline Hedrick.

Mr. Hedrick was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963. He was a self-employed contractor.

His wife, Mary Strawderman Hedrick, whom he married Feb. 22, 1962, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jill Garrison of Stafford, VA; two sons, Kevin Hedrick of Bracey, VA, and Christopher Hedrick of North Myrtle Beach, SC; one sister, Judy Blosser of Harrisonburg, VA; two brothers, Gary Hedrick of Mt. Sidney, VA, and Eugene Bowers of Dayton, VA; and four grandchildren.

All services were private.
