Helen Marie (Moyers) Sim

Helen Marie (Moyers) Sim, 70, of Keyser passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser.

She was born in Franklin on March 10, 1941, the daughter of the late George S. And Myrtle Mae Simmons Moyers.

Mrs. Sim retired as a bookkeeper rom Union Trust Bank in Baltimore, MD. She was a 1960 graduate of Franklin High School and a member of Franklin United Methodist Church.

On Dec. 31, 1961, she married Arthur Sim, who survives in Keyser.

Also surviving are three daughters, Janet Sim, Ruth Ward and husband, Neil, Jean Gordon and husband, George, all of Keyser; and a sister, Julia M. Sim of Franklin.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Janet Moyers, Margie White and Gertrude Thompson.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Bob Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.

Family will receive friends today from noon until 2 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin United Methodist Church.

Helen J. Smith, 73

Helen Josephine Smith, 73, of Weyers Cave, VA, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, Harrisonburg, VA.

Helen was born in Riverton on Sept 20, 1937, and was a daughter of the late Robert and Ina (Dove)Smith.

She attended Christ Tabernacle Church in Harrisonburg, VA.

On Aug 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Glen Smith, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Cathy Loya and Lisa Benitez and husband, David, all of Pleasant Valley, VA, and Linda Flores and husband, Rey of Grottoes, VA; four sisters, Eva Rodeffer of Rawley Springs, VA, Nida Caplinger and husband, Burton of Harrisonburg, VA, Ina Cook and husband, Clarence of Bridgewater, VA, and Sue Gery and husband, Robert of Grottoes, VA; five brothers, Robert Smith and wife, Betty of Harrisonburg, VA, Harold Smith and wife, Donna of Crownsville, MD, Paul Smith and wife, Violet, and David Smith and wife, Maryann, all of Broadway, VA, and John Smith and wife, Donna of Mount Solon, VA; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Merl Smith.

A funeral service was held at the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, VA, with Jeremy Poling officiating.

Burial followed at Sangerville Church Cemetery.

Patrick Raines, 71

Patrick Daniel Raines, 71, a resident of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away June 20, 2011 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA.

Mr. Raines was born on May 31, 1940, in the Riverton area and was the son of the late Arlie and Gladys Hedrick Raines.

He was employed as a truck driver for David A. Reed & Sons and A. & J. Excavating.

On Nov. 1, 1963, he married JoAnn Propst, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Teresa Cassell of Bridgewater, VA, and Amy Raines of Port Republic, VA; and a grandson, Jordan Cassell and wife, Sarah of Charlottesville, VA.

A visitation will be held at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, VA, Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Following the visitation, the body will be cremated, and the burial will be private.
