William Lamb, Sr., 87 

William Booth Lamb Sr.; 87, of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord on June 27, 2009.

He was born Jan 5,1922, in Portsmouth, VA, to the late Wallace and Hope Lamb.

Mr. Lamb was raised in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict, retiring after 30 years.  He also retired from civil service, working for the commander in chief, Atlantic Fleet.  He and his wife were the owners of Maggie's Antiques& Things.  In his spare time, he enjoyed going to Cape Hatteras, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret L. Lamb.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, William B. Lamb, Jr., and his wife, Deborah of Pennsylvania; brother, Robert K. Lamb and his wife, June of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Sarah and Rebekah; three step-grandchildren, Adam, Curt and Maranatha; nine step-great-grandchildren; two nieces; a nephew; two great- nieces; and Carolyn Kayota of Virginia Beach, VA.

He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Margaret E. Lord.

A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. in Eastern Shore Chapel, conducted by the Rev. C. Christopher Thompson. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

Evan C. Wilfong

Evan C. Wilfong, 91, of Philadelphia, PA, died June 21, 2009.

Mr. Wilfong was born in Franklin.

He was the loving husband of the late Mary (nee Colfer), devoted father of Evan (Terri), Leslie Dillon (Robert, Charles (Ann), Dennis (Elizabeth) and the late Dorothy Straub.  He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral mass was held Friday at the St. Katherine of Siena Church, Philadelphia, PA.  Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery.

Beula Sheets, 82

Beula Alice Vandevander Sheets, 82, passed away June 28, 2009, at her home. 

She was a native of Pendleton  County and resided in Rescue, VA, for over 50 years before moving to Smithfield, VA.

She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Texie S. Vandevander.  

Mrs. Sheets was a loving and devoted wife, homemaker and mother who dearly loved her God and both her church families at Smith Creek Church of the Brethern and Riverview United Methodist Church in Rescue, VA.

Her husband, Jimmie L. Sheets, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy S. Turner and husband, Albert L. "Sonny" of Smithfield, VA, and JoAnn S. Finderson and husband, Thomas E. "Tommy" of Carrollton, VA; granddaughter, Vicki M. Mottley; two great grandchildren, Colleeen and Michael Finney; sister, Lucy Warble of Harrisonburg, VA; brother, Glenn Vandevander, and wife, Betty; and many nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws. 

She was also preceded in death by brohters, Otis Marvin, John, Ray, Ralph, and Roy; and sisters, Evelyn V. Warner and Grace V. Newcomb.

A service celebrating Mrs. Sheets' life was held Wednesday at the Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA, with the Rev. Leon Basham officiating.  Burial followed in St. Luke's Memorial Park.
