Rita Lenora Poole
Rita Lenora Poole, 50, of Petersburg, died Friday, July 14, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
Ms. Poole was born Feb. 19, 1956, in Akron, OH, and was a daughter of the late Stanton Merwood Poole and Rita L. Sparks Poole.
She was a homemaker and was employed at Hanover Shoe Company.
Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Kesner of Moorefield and Rhonda Lofton of Petersburg; two sisters, Sandra VanMeter of Upper Tract and Debra Pipes of Ohio; one brother, Stanton Poole of Ohio; and four grandchildren, Cassie Kesner, Davonna Ketterman, Rebekah Kesner and Kodie Lofton.
The Rev. Bruce Cosner will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday, at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Johnnie Nelson, 74
Johnnie Warden Nelson, 74, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday morning, July 14, 2006, in Braxton Health Care Center at Flatwoods.
Mr. Nelson was born April 29, 1932, at Circleville, a son of the late Pinkney J. Nelson and the late Cora Cook Nelson.
Mr. Nelson was employed as a truck driver prior to his retirement and was a Methodist by faith.
He was twice married. first, on July 28, 1951, to Leota Agnes Raines Nelson, who preceded him in death April 7, 1996. On Feb. 28, 1998, he married Audrey Helen Lambert Nelson, who preceded him in death Aug. 13, 2005.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Sue Dumire and husband, Bill, of Coalton; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Susan Dumire of Coalton; two stepsons, Charles "Charlie" Lambert Jr. of Elkins and Ricky Ray Lambert of Junior; two stepdaughters, Connie Elaine Ricotilli of Dailey and Cordelia Elizabeth Griffith of Rockford, IL; and two sisters, Mary M. Wilfong of Roanoke, Va. and Cynthia J. Warner of Cherry Grove.
Also preceding him in death were six brothers, Jacob George Nelson, Hansel James Nelson, Herbert Glenn Nelson, Richard Paul Nelson, George Allen Nelson and Pinkney James Nelson Jr.
Funeral services were held at Tuesday, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home with the Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment followed in North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton.

Anthony "A.P." Heavener
Anthony "A.P." Paul "Slim" Heavener, 52, of Riverton, died July 8, 2006, at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown.
Mr. Heavener was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Petersburg, and was the son of Ruby Bennett Smith.
He also was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Luther Bennett, who raised him.
He had attended Circleville High School and worked at the Riverton Outlet. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Tanya Mongold of Fisher, Amy Beth Heavener of Petersburg, Wendy Rose Byrd of Wardensville and Carla Rae Heavener of Salem, Va.; a son, Anthony Paul Heavener, II, of Salem; a sister, Patsy Dettinburn of Keyser; three brothers, Walley Smith of Luray, VA, and Gregory Smith and Wayne Smith, both of Staunton, VA. and eight grandchildren, Dusty Michael Wratchford, Sarah Marie Mongold, Jessica Lee Mongold, Edward Rodney Steward, III, Levi Hunter Steward, Jordan Ray Byrd, Leah Marie Byrd and Nathaniel Paul Heavener.
Also preceding him in death were one grandson, Jessie Lee Byrd.
The rev. Mark McAllister will conducted the funeral July 12 at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Mary Raines, 55
Mary "Jackie" Raines, 55, of Monterey, VA, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 15, 1950, at Akron, OH, a daughter of the late Marne E. and Nina Wandalee (Erb) Himelright.
Mrs. Raines was a loving mother and grandmother.
She had worked at Hanover Shoe Factory, Pendleton Nursing Home and the Maple Restaurant.
She is survived by her companion, Jim Pitsenbarger of Monterey, VA; three daughters, and sons-in-law, Carolyn Smith of Staunton, VA, Wanda and Mike Lambert of Circleville and Melissa and J.M. Simmons of doe Hill, VA; seven grandchildren, Jamie Morgan, Lindsey and Ashley Vandevander, Lyle Smith, Haley and cody Lambert and Travis Simmons; and a sister, Karen Harkless of Moorefield.
A graveside service was conducted Wednesday at Monterey Cemetery by Pastor Sam Harper.
Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
