Mary Puffenbarger, 41

Mary Sue Puffenbarger, 41, of Sugar Grove died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. 

Ms. Puffenbarger was born April 28, 1965, and was the daughter of Stover Lee Puffenbarger of Sugar Grove and the late Ella Susan Pennybacker Puffenbarger. 

She was a homemaker and was a member of Brushy Fork Full Gospel church. 

In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Freeman and Kathy Puffenbarger of Sugar Grove; an aunt, Mary f. Penny backer of Sugar Grove; a niece, Miranda Pennybacker of Sugar Grove; and a number of cousins. 

The Rev. William Strickler conducted a graveside service Tuesday at the Puffenbarger Family Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were by Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, VA. 

Virginia H. Kessel, 78

Virginia H. Kessel, 78, of the Kline community in Upper Tract, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Kessel was born Oct. 30, 1927, at Kline and was the daughter of the late Marvin B. Hevener and Katherine Dalmer Hevener. 

She was a licensed beautician, working in the Petersburg area, and had retired from Eastern West Virginia community Action.  She was a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Leon Kessel, preceded her in death in 1955.   

Survivors include a daughter, Sunette Propst of Upper Tract; a brother, Richard D. Hevener of Franklin; and a grandson, Bryan Propst of Hagerstown, MD.

Also preceding her in death were one son, James Arthur Kessel in 1968; and one brother, George Hevener in 1999.

The Rev. Gary Phillips conducted the funeral Monday at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, Mozer. Burial was at the Kline Cemetery in Kline.

Rebecca F. Eckard, 68

Rebecca Fern (Marshall) Eckard, 68, of Moyers, died Monday, July 24, 2006, at Avante at Waynesboro.

Mrs. Eckard was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Blue Grass, VA, a daughter of the late James Newman and Geneva Mae (Wilfong) Marshall.

Mrs. Eckard was a member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Moyers and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Lee Eckard, in January of 2001.

She is survived by a daughter, Penny Stump of Franklin; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Janet Marie Marshall of Mustoe, VA; a sister, Martha Lynn Hammer of Staunton, VA; three grandchildren, B.J. Wilson and Brittany McDonald, both of Franklin, and Melissa Stump of Mt. Sidney, VA; four nieces, Debbie and husband, David Caywood of Staunton, VA, Tonia and husband, Keith Comer of Winston Salem, NC, Tammy and husband, Judd Briggs of Dunwoody, GA, and Kim and husband, David Wimer of Churchville, VA; four nephews, Jimmy and wife, Donna Marshall, and Danny and wife, Donna Marshall, and Danny and wife, Betty Marshall, all of Staunton, VA, Steve and wife, Cindy Marshall of Weyers Cave, VA, and Tony and wife, Traci Marshall of Mustoe, VA. 

She also was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Marshall. .

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, by Donald E. Rose. Interment will follow in the St. Johnís Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
