Nola Rebecca Harper
Nola Rebecca (Bland) Harper, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 at her residence in Franklin.
She was born in Riverton on March 8, 1917, the daughter of the late Kenny and Annie Vandevander Bland.
She attended North Fork Apostolic Church and was a homemaker.
Her husband, Forrest Glenn Harper, preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1972.
Surviving are two daughters, Madeline Joy Tusing and husband, Curtis of Dayton, VA, and Kitty Ann Simmons and husband, Jerry of Bridgewater, VA; a foster daughter, Nora May Riggleman of Franklin; a son, Frank Harper and wife, Anita of Franklin; a sister, Ona Bland Warner of Riverton; two brothers, Guy Bland and wife, Louise of Riverton, and Stanley Bland and wife, Rosie of Chardon, OH; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; two brothers, Russell and Thurman Bland; and two sisters, Kate Bland and Sudie Nelson.
Funeral services were held Friday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Calvin Bailey officiating. Interment was in the Harper Family Cemetery on South Fork Mountain, Franklin.

Arthur Esmond Elliott
Arthur Esmond Elliott, 90, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Elliott was born on Oct. 26, 1918, in Rich Square, NC, the son of the late Chester Arthur Elliott and Geneva Betty Boyd Elliott.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Roanoke Rapids, NC. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in the North African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He was a mechanic at Kline Chevrolet in Norfolk ,VA, for 34 years before retiring to Rich Square, NC.
His wife of 67 years, Margaret Eye Elliott, formerly of Franklin, survives.
Also surviving are two children, Janice E. Light and husband, H. Darrell Light of Foley, AL, and Bradley A. Elliott and wife, Diane T. Elliott of Roanoke Rapids, NC; six grandchildren, David A. Light, Sara L. Wellman, Joel T. Elliott, James P. Elliott, Rebekah K. Elliott and Maria E. Davis; and one great-grandchild, Jadon M. Davis.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, James T. Elliott; and a sister, Odie E. Trotter.
