Christina "Tena" Nelson
Christina "Tena" W. Nelson, 94, Circleville, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, where she had been a resident for the last eight years.
Mrs. Nelson was born Jan. 19, 1907, in Riverton and was the daughter of the late lee Pope Warner and Phoebe Whitecotton Warner. She was a homemaker and a former cook for 30 years at Circleville High School. She was a member of the Circleville Presbyterian church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Earl "Doc" Nelson, who died Dec. 24, 1983.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include four daughters, Louis Hedrick and Shirley Dove, both of Riverton, Dorothy Bennett, Circleville, and Sue Moyer, Criders, VA; one son, Earl Delton Nelson, Melbourne, FL; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bardon "Bink" Nelson, and Allen Nelson; and two grandsons, Bond Dove, Jr., and John Lee Nelson.
The Rev. Dr. Paul O'Gorek conducted a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wimer Cemetery in Circleville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice or the Circleville High School Restoration Fund.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.
Kathryn Wimer Mauzy, 92
Kathryn Wimer Mauzy, 92, Monterey, Va, formerly of Blue Grass, VA, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA.
Mrs. Mauzy was born Nov. 14, 1908, at Blue Grass, VA, and was a daughter of the late Frank Cameron and Bonnie Kate (Wimer) Wimer.
She was a retired bookkeeper with the Blue Grass Valley Bank. She was a member of the Monterey Presbyterian Church and was an organist and pianist at the former Crabbottom Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Order of the Easter(n) Starr
Her husband, Robert E. "Dick" Mauzy, Sr., preceded her in death on June 13, 1987.
She is survived by a son, R.E. "Bob" Mauzy, Jr., Blue Grass, VA; two sisters, Janet Pulley, Springfield, VA, and dorothy Hevener, Harrisonburg, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Hull, Virginia Hammer, and Ruth Mauzy; and three brothers, Miller, Alfred, and Eugene Wimer.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, by the Rev. James W. "Bill" Moore. Burial was in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
