Georgia Coakley, 98

Georgia Lucille Moyers Coakley, 98, of Dayton, VA, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Bridgewater Nursing Home, Bridgewater, VA, where she had been a resident since 2001.

She was born on May 23, 1911, in Circleville and was the daughter of the late Conrad and Sallie Moyers.

Her family later moved to the Mount Clinton area.

Mrs. Coakley was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church.  She was a homemaker and loved to cook.

On May 18, 1937, she married Weldon K. Coakley, who preceded her in death on May 17, 1985.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen Orsini and husband Joseph of Ruckersville, VA; a granddaughter, Diane Bigler of Kansas City, MO; a grandson, Michael Orsini of Falls Church, VA; a great-grandson, Dominic Hiner of Kansas City, MO, and two sisters, Jessie Craun of Singers Glen, VA, and Mary Myers of Harrisonburg, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and one sister.

A funeral service was be held Wednesday at the Dayton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Bird officiating.  Burial followed in the Dayton Cemetery.

Burley H. Alt

Burley H. Alt, 78, of Chase, MD, and formerly of Smoke Hole, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009.

He was born on Oct. 19, 1931, in Smoke Hole and was the son of the late Frank J. Alt and May C. (VanMeter) Alt.

Mr. Alt retired from General Motors.

Surviving are one son, Mark Alt of Chase, MD; one daughter, Marsha Mitchell of Cockeysville, MD; one granddaughter, Julie Mitchell; two great-grandsons, Jordan and Jason; seven sisters, Wilma Wagner of Petersburg, Zola Kile, Ganel Armentrout and Sheila Kimble, all of Upper Tract, Kathleen Raker of Williamsport, PA, Thomasine Berg of Maysville and Millie Hedrick of Timberville, VA; four brothers, William “Jim” Alt of Lahmansville, Charles F. “Bo” Alt of Petersburg, Loy A. “Bubby” Alt of Green Spring and James “Pete” Alt of Warrenton, VA; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, whom they raised, Roger Alt of Upper Tract.

He was also preceded in death by an infant grandson, Jason; two sisters, Bessie Kimble and infant Bertha Alice Alt; and two brothers, Ervin and Raymond Alt.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, Essex, MD.  Interment was in the Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, Essex, MD.

Nida Irwin, 78

Nida Josephine (Borror) Irwin, 78, of Mathias and formerly of Petersburg, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at her home.

She was born on Jan. 20, 1931, in Landes and was the daughter of the late Cora Ethel (Borror) Davis.

Her husband, Clarence Patterson "Pat" Irwin, preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2009.

Surviving are two sisters, Vada Lee Davis of Mathias and Amelia Carol Runion of Timberville, VA; one brother, Baxter Key Borror of Upper Tract; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Liza Mabel Borror and Iva Elizabeth Keplinger; and one brother, Emmanuel Raymond Borror.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Greg Rotruck officiating.  Interment was in the Borror Family Cemetery, Middle Mountain, Landes.
