Helen Louise Conrad, 75

Helen Louise Harman Conrad, age 75 years, a resident of Harman, departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health for the past three years and death was attributed to congestive heart failure.

She was born January 21, 1926, at Harman, a daughter of the late Eugene Harman and Rada Burns Gregory Harman.

On August 8, 1941, at Oakland, MD, she was married to Ira Conrad, who preceded her in death, June 1, 1997. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Surviving are four sons, Ken Conrad, Del Conrad and wife Dee, Doug Conrad and wife, Debbie, all of Elkins, and David Conrad and wife, Melissa, Franklin; three daughters Karen Sue Landis and husband, Leonard, Harman, Diana Lynn VanNoy and husband, Rocky, Elkins and Deborah Kaye Conrad and Tony, Charleston; one half brother, David Gregory, Gilman; one half sister, Linda Jane Chenoweth, Elkins; one step-sister, Rhetha Victor Weese, Cyrstal Springs, three grandchildren, Kimberly Landis Nelson and Husband, Butch, Harman, and Jessica and Lance VanNoy, both of Elkins, and one great-grandson, Tyler Scott Nelson.

She was also preceded in death by one infant son, Richard Keith Conrad; one step-brother, Robert Gregory; and one step-sister, Ruth Gordon.

She attended the schools of Harman, was a homemaker, was a member of the Harman Post #5781, Veterans of foreign Wars Auxiliary, was a former member of the Harman PTA and a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren, where she had served as past president of the C.B.W.F. of the church and was active with the Bible School Program.

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Walter H. Blough and the Reverend Joseph Mininger officiating. Interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.

 

Ruth Bennett, 87

Ruth Bennett, 87, formelry of Whitmer, died at Teays Manor in Hurricane following a long illness.

Mrs. Bennett was born Nov. 10, 1914, at Circleville and was a daughter of the late Harness Bennett and Dora Judy Bennett.

She was a homemaker, a Methodist by faith and a member of the Dryfork Senior Citizens of Randolph county.

She is survived by her husband, Hansel Bennett.

Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Jones of Rockville, MD, and Doris Schaefer of Longview, WA; two sons, Wayne Bennett of Eleanor, and Frank Bennett of Hinton, VA; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin, with the Rev. Joe Mininger officiating.

Burial will be held in North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Teays Manor, PO Box 1045, Hurricane, WV 25526.

 

Carolyn Zirk R. Long, 62

Carolyn Zirk Risner Long, 62, Florence, KY, died at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH, from natural causes.

Mrs. Long was born August 16, 1939, in Oak Flat and was a daughter of the late Mervin Zirk and Hazel Rexrod Zirk.

She was a Title 1 Assistant at the Walton-Verona Elementary School, Verona, KY.

She was a member of the Walton United Methodist Church, Walton, KY.

Surviving are her husband, Eugene Long, Florence, KY; a son, Scott Long, Covington, KY; three daughters, Sherron Nickel, Pine Hill, NF, Laura Luster, Amelia, OH, and Rachel Long, Florence, KY; and five grandchildren.

The Revs. Mark Gibbons and Todd Benner conducted the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger, KY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona, KY.
