David A. Hutchings, 2 Jan 1998: I've just begun a family history search. I had some luck recently while searching the Clay County Civil War Biographies. I found an ancestors biography. His name was Levi James REED and he was born July 15, 1823 in Pendleton County, VA (now WV). Prior to finding the bio I had not gotten past my mothers grandparents. It's interesting to note that the key to me knowing he was my ancestor was that it included the story of his death where he was killed by a train. What it does not include in the bio is the reason he walked onto the track. The family story is that he was deaf and carrying an armload of firewood which prevented him from seeing the train. After contacting my mother she remembered the name and confirmed I was on the right track. I would appreciate any information you have on him. If I'm asking for too much (or the wrong questions) please forgive me as I'm fairly new to this.
