Josiah
Bridger and Margaret See Mace Bridger
Josiah Bridger is the son of James Bridger and Sarah
Sally Gay Bridger of Greenbrier and Edray in Pocahontas
County (who later moved to Iowa). Sarah Sally Gay is the
daughter of Robert Gay and Hannah Moore Gay, whose farm
was located next to the Bridger's.
It is thought that Josiah was named after Josiah Brown,
who raised his father James Bridger after his father had
"been killed by Indians".
Margaret See Mace Bridger is the daughter of William
Mace and Dorcas Stalnaker Mace.
Josiah Bridger and Margaret See Mace Bridger migrated
from West Virginia to Iowa, then on to Oregon in 1870,
and eventually settling in Southwest Idaho.
All are referenced in the book by William T. Price, Historical
Sketches Of Pocahontas County WV, (Marlinton, W. Va.,
Price Brothers, Publishers, 1901).

These wonderful photo's (taken in the late 1800's)
and information were generously contributed by Joseph
Swallow, a great-great-great-grandson.
