I have a NEW EMAIL ADDRESS!
I have switched internet providers. Previous Email addresses "bgramp@att.net" and/or "bgramp@worldnet.att.net" are no longer valid!!
Added a few notes to various cemeteries in our Cemetery section. Also, I think we have resolved my Email problems (some were returned
to you as undeliverable because they were being "blocked" by
my internet provider).
--> September 30, 2005 A big "thank you" to Barbara (Friel) Albright for providing directions to the Clawson Cemetery.
--> August - September 2005
--> July 30, 2005
Volunteer Susan Hefner Kershner has generously contributed some wonderful
postcard images. You will find them in the "Maps, photos, postcards,
etc". section - or click here to go straight
to the Postcard section. There are more postcard and photo's that will
be added as time permits. Thank you very much Susan! We received another contribution from Volunteer Sally Starks Torchik. In the county Archives you will find a copy of the Marriage License of Samuel Starks and Annie Simmons Starks. Sally says that after previously contributing her father's birth certificate, she has heard from a couple of people that are also researching the same family of Starks. Here's hoping that Sally hears from many more fellow researchers that are as generous as she is. Thank you again Sally! You can get to the Pocahontas County WVGenWeb Archives from the "Records, Homepages, Searches" section - or click here to go straight there.
I received a great Memorial Day surprise from Tim Sutton - a survey of the McLaughlin-Sutton Cemetery in Cass. Not only did he and his wife take the survey, but Tim also drives from his home in Waynesboro, Virginia several times yearly to do maintenance and lawncare on the cemetery. We need more people like Tim and his wife! Thank you very very much for the survey and for caring. You will find their survey in our "Cemeteries" section and in our Archives. In February 2003, Helen Flach sent me an update regarding her photo of an Unknown Cemetery. With some help from our readers, we have identified it as the Gay family cemetery in Edray. The people are still not known, but the picture was probably taken around 1908. See more about this here and see if you can help to identify the people. Thanks much for the update Helen and thanks to everyone that helped. Sorry I took so long to publish the update.
--> December 22, 2002 Added a picture of the old mill at Mill Point taken and contributed by Volunteer Betsy Parsons Maisel. Thank you for your help Betsy. As a holiday present, I transcribed a short chapter out of the book Historical Sketches of Pocahontas County WV by William T. Price - Chapter VI "Union and Confederate Soldiers". You will find this in the Archives under History - see the section "Records, Homepages, Searches" for the Archives link and also in our "Military and Defense" section here. --> December 16, 2002 Updated the Cemeteries section with information found in the book History
Of Pocahontas County, West Virginia 1981, by the Pocahontas County Historical
Society, Inc. In an article about the county Historical Museum it describes
both a Confederate and PRICE family cemeteries on the museum's grounds.
Could use more info on this if you have it. Updated the Archives website with corrections made to the Mt. Pleasant and George Gibson Farm Cemetery surveys. Both of these surveys had errors that I have attempted to correct. Updated the "Cemeteries" section and the Archives with the Stony Bottom Cemetery survey. Contributed/Transcribed by yours truly, Barbara Gramp. --> November 3, 2002 Updated the "'Cemeteries" section (again!!) with the Burr Cemetery survey and related headstone pictures. These wonderful additions were contributed by Volunteer Sara Mollohan Huffman. Another unexpected surprise - thank you very much Sara! In the future I will create a new section for our cemetery pictures on this non-Archives county website. But for now they are available only on the county Archives site. The new section will promote comments/input about the individuals and hopefully reveal new information. But of course, your comments/input/help are always welcome! --> October 27, 2002 Updated the "Cemeteries" section with the Sharp-Raintown Cemetery
survey contributed by Volunteer Linda Burroughs. This was a very pleasant
surprise - thanks very much Linda! Updated the "Cemeteries" section with the Armstrong Cemetery survey contributed by our active Volunteer, Doug Jackson. Thanks again for all of your help Doug! Today it looks like the USGenWeb Archives search function is working!
When it was not working, a misleading "Internal Server Error"
was received when you tried to perform a search. This made the error seem
like you were doing something wrong. You weren't - it was just broken
and they had to rebuild it. --> October 14, 2002 Updated the "postcards" page that can be found in the "Maps,
photos, postcards, etc." section. Thank you to new volunteer Tom
Watkins for contributing the Marlinton Hospital and Edray District High
School postcards! Heard from Pete Ahern, the new owner of the land where Hosterman Cemetery
is located. He has provided additional directions and other info about
the cemetery. See the "Cemeteries" section. Thanks to Pete for
his help. Added two more Mountain View Cemetery transcribed text files for sections
6 & 7 to the county Archives. Thank you to Doris Geiger for her help! -->March 24, 2002 Udated the Cemetery section to slightly improve page load time and added
additional cemetery info. Updated Look-up Volunteers and Shopping sections
for Pritt Galford's book "The Galford Ancestry". Thanks to Doris
Geiger for letting me know about it. Added another Mountain View Cemetery transcribed text file for section 3 to the county Archives. More thank-you's to volunteer Joy Buzzard for her help! Added miscellaneous new links and removed some obsolete ones (could use your help to report any links that are no longer working). Cleaned up various code to improve efficiency and page load time. Still need to re-vamp the Cemetery page - it sure takes a while to load. -->December 27, 2001 Thursday Added new photo of Old Droop Church to section "Maps, photos, postcards, etc.". This was kindly contributed by John McClure. Thank you John! Some updates: We have also received a cemetery survey of the Brownsburg Cemetery for the county Archives and cemetery section. It will be available after it is transcribed into text format. Stay tuned. This was generously surveyed and contributed by volunteer Doug Jackson, with additional information provided by John Boggs (identification of unmarked graves). Thank you Doug and John! Still have the task outstanding of cataloging the old editions of The Pocahontas Times that were contributed by Donna Curry Smith. They will be added to the Look-up section. Stay tuned. Still have the task outstanding of transcribing into text the Mountain View Cemetery survey that was contributed to the Archives by Pam Hoover Johnson and Doug Jackson. Also, let me take this chance to thank our Look-Up Volunteers for selflessly sharing their time and information. And thank you to all of our contributor/volunteers. Thank you all very much for helping to support the sharing of FREE genealogy information. -->November 23, 2001 Friday Added new photo of an unknown cemetery and people in "Maps, photos, postcards, etc." This was contributed by Helen Flach. Hopefully someone can identify them. Thank you Helen! FYI: I have received many old editions of The Pocahontas Times dated from the seventies. These were contributed by Donna Curry Smith. As soon as they are cataloged, I will be able to perform Lookups from these valuable newspapers. Already, I have documented a few new cemeteries on the "Cemeteries" page that were gleaned from them. Thank you Donna! Holly Wanless Cochran notified us of the death of her mother and a Volunteer for WVGenWeb, Gladys Wanless. We will miss her. -->September 9, 2001 Saturday Added an African American section to "Records, Homepages, Searches". This was suggested by Carol Haynes. Thank you Carol!! Added new section - How To Order WV Vital Records to "Government, Muni Addresses". Also added links to it from other pages. -->July 14, 2001 Saturday Added a photograph collection of the Alfred S.
