My husband's family came from Putnam Co., WV. We are taking a genealogy
vacation the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September. We are interested in visiting
living relatives, cemeteries, home sites, churches, schools, etc. connected
to our family line which follows: James SMITH married Mary A. SNODGRASS.
Their child: Norman Gwinn SMITH Norman Gwinn married Virginia C. RAYHILL
(dauther of Jacob RAYHILL) Norman and Virginia's children were: Arthur
McDonald, Walter, Grover, Carrie, Laura Mae, Bessie Bonalyn and Harry
Austin. (We assume our living relatives will be descendants of these siblings.)
Arthur McDonald SMITH is our direct descendant. He married Myrtle Ree
SPURLOCK (daughter of Calvin Burl SPURLOCK and Bertha Mae WALTERS. Arthur
and Myrtle's children were: Donald Clarence, Ronald Clay, Calvin Gwinn,
Woodrow Bryan, Reita Iris, Maurice Byron, and Virginia Anna. Arthur and
Myrtle SPURLOCK SMITH moved their family about 1920 to Fulton Co. IN.

My gr-grandfather, Norman Gwinn Smith, died Feb. 10, 1936, Carroll Dist.,
Lincoln Co., WV. I know his burial site is Garrett's Bend near Putnam/Lincoln
county line. Can anyone fill me in on Garrett's Bend? Is this a town?
A cemetary only? Is it still being used? I have driving directions from

Jacob BARR b abt 1814, wife, Sarah (maiden name unknown) b abt 1819. I
have traced them through Pennsylvania with 10 children: John, Mariah,
George, Catharine, Walter, Elizabeth, Samuel, Christopher, Sarah and Matilda.
In 1880 they are residing in Scott, Putnam County, West Virginia. The
oldest son, John, is living next door with his wife, Mary Jane, and four
children, including a step-daughter whose last name is HOVER. When Sarah,
(the mother, not the daughter) dies she is back in Pennsylvania in Allegheny
County. Maria marries a SHEPARD about 1865 and remains in Pennsylvania.
If anyone recognizes this family and has any information on the parentage
of Jacob BARR and his wife, Sarah, I would appreciate hearing about it.
I'm about ready to look in the nearest cabbage patch!!!!! Information
on Maria and her descendants is available to anyone who is interested.

They are buried at Cross Creek Cemetery. The informant on his death record
was his daughter, Henretta SHANK. Another of their daughters, Annie Marie,

Hello, I'm searching for William Eastep/Estep and Mamie Saunders. I have
found a William and Mamie in the Buffalo District on the 1910 Census.
They were living around several Saunders families. I hope that they were
whom I am searching. I could not find the Saunders or William Eastep on
the 1920 Census. I did notice several Sanders grandchildren and neices
etc. living with other families. Was there an epidemic or some sort of
tragic event, flooding perhaps between 1910 and 1920? William Eastep worked
for the railroad, so did his son Harold Eastep who is my grandfather,
Harold was born abt 1910 in Buffalo W Va. Does anyone have any information

Trying to trace ancestry for Roma Clare Cain, my maternal grandmother.
Her parents, Samuel and Sarah, were farmers in Putnam County, possibly
near Scott Depot. It's my understanding that Samuel and Sarah had three
other children: Ida, Nora, Clyde, in addition to Roma Clare. Roma Clare
married Thomas Ely Carter (antecedents unknown). They lived in Charleston

Hi, Im trying to find info on my ggrandparents Andy Johnson Hall and Adley
Bias they had my grandfather James Hall who married Bessie Hunt have traced
these Halls as being from Putnam co, later Kanawha co, to a farm in Applegrove
w,va.I have noticed alot of people have the parents of my grandfather
James Hall listed as Andrew Jackson Hall and Mary or May Bias then second
wife to Andrew Hall as Rosetta Duncan my grandfather has his parents listed
on the papers for his first social security card as father Andy Johnson
Hall and Adlay Bias Andys second wife was Rosetta Duncan and I have that
line. But I cant find nothing on Adlay Bias sure would appreciate any
help thank you Lois

Searching for info on my great grandfather James Riddle. James married Barbara Pauley, daughter of Albert and Julia Pauley. James and Barbara resided in Lincoln Co, WV after their marriage. I have hit a solid brick wall researching my g/gf Riddle. As his wife Barbara was born 1869, I assume James to be born circa 1850-60-70. Thanks in advance for the lookup.
