Howard D. Haddix
Howard D. Haddix, 80, a resident of Canton, Ohio, and former resident of Philippi, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, in Mercy Medical at Canton, Ohio.
He was born July 22, 1926, a son of the late Isaac and Ethel Mitchell Haddix.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Pauline “Mary” Burris; two daughters, Donna M. Rawson of Vandailia, Ohio, and Pamela S. Rabin of Canton, Ohio; two sisters, Myrtle Upton and Delores Kennedy, both of Philippi; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Haddix was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Calvin Haddix; four sisters, Elsie Isner, Ruth Wilson, Norma Humpries and Betty Edens; and one granddaughter, Marjorie Rawson.
He was a steel worker, retired from Republic Steel and was Baptist by faith. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
Friends were received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi on Sunday and today from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the service hour with Ronald Kennedy officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home services.  From 25 Sep 2006.

Margaret P. Halfin
Margaret Parsons Halfin, 90, of St. George, passed away Oct. 31, 2006, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.
She was born Feb. 3, 1916, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Worley and Eva Metz Parsons.
She is survived by two sons, Charles T. and wife, Joyce Halfin, of Mt. Claire and Robert J. and wife, Sophia Halfin, of St. George; one sister, Mary Gordon of Philippi; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Joseph Halfin, Kevin Scott Halfin, Joshua Scott Halfin, Cassandra Janein and Jeremy Michael Halfin; three great-grandchildren, Haley Jane Halfin, Dakota LeeAnn Halfin and Mason Thomas Halfin; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Jordan Humphrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Floyd Halfin, on Sept. 1, 1996; and one brother, James E. Parsons.
Mrs. Halfin was active as a volunteer in community services at St. George Medical Clinic, Cortland Acres Nursing Home and the Cheat River Conservancy. She was a member of St. George United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 91, and she loved fishing and farming.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. George United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Rosie A. Hagglund
Rosie Ann Hagglund, 78, a resident of Chardon, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, in University Hospital, Case Western University, Cleveland, Ohio.
She was born July 19, 1928, at Valley Head, the daughter of the late Artie and Elizabeth Pritt.
On Oct. 25, 1952, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., she was married to Rudy O. Hagglund, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1976.
Surviving are children, Sandy McCormick and husband, Bob, of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Terri Hagglund of Chardon, Ohio; grandchildren, Lynn McCormick of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Cassie and John Igou, stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, and LeeAnn McCormick of Ypsilanti, Mich.; sister, Alee Rose of Beverly; brother and sister-in-law, Art and Mary Jo Pritt of Chardon, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ruth Strigaro of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and Mary Hagglund of Augusta, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were her two sons, Fred Eric and Rudy Oskar Jr.; brother, Samuel Pritt; and sisters, Helen Fowler, Urania Corley and Una Foreback.
Rosie Ann graduated from Davis & Elkins College School of Nursing in 1950, and subsequently attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Following college, she and her dearest friend and fellow nursing student, Bonnie Moore Jansson, moved to Long Island, N.Y. Rosie Ann worked for 40 years as a registered nurse at Long Beach Medical Center, Long Beach; Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Islip and Southside Hospital, Bayshore, N.Y. She loved to travel, and enjoyed fishing, sports and music, and especially loved caring for her beloved dogs and cats.
She will be interred at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y., along side her husband and sons. A memorial service will be held in Chardon, Ohio. Burr Funeral Home, Chardon, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.  From 30 Aug 2006.

Betty L. Hall
Betty Lou Hall, 76, a resident of Buckhannon, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at her home.
She was born Oct. 26, 1930, at Winchester, Va., a daughter of the late Royal A. Unger and Mary Jane Mesner Unger.
On Nov. 15, 1952, she was married to Robert Hall, who preceded her in death March 8, 1984.
Surviving are one stepson, William Robert Hall of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Marguerite M. Hollen of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three brothers, Lewis C. Unger of Houston, Texas, Richard Unger of Buckhannon, and Don S. Unger of Ruther Glen, Va.; four nephews, Charles Unger of Ruther Glen, Va., Don S. Unger Jr. and Charles Unger, both of Virginia, and David Unger of Texas; three nieces, Rebecca Bumgardner of Virginia, Linda Unger and Susan Collage, both of Texas.
She attended and was secretary for Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She had donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion over the years.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home with the Rev. Norma I. Hall
Norma Irene Hall, 75, a former resident of First Street, Elkins, departed this life Thursday afternoon, April 20, 2006, in Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs. She had been in declining health for the past several years.
She was born Saturday, Jan. 10, 1931, at Teter, a daughter of the late Otha Willis Hall and Zeruiah Jones Hall.
She had never married.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were one brother, Ronald B. Hall; one sister, Elaine Drury; one half brother, Lewis Hall; and four half sisters, Lottie Poling, Anna Shaffer, Thelma Ford and Zola Booth.
Norma attended the schools of Upshur County, was a homemaker, was a member of the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center and was a Methodist by faith.

Agnes H. Haller
Agnes Hardin Haller, 103, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Friday morning, Feb. 24, in the Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, following an extended illness.
She was born, March 4, 1902, at Moatsville, a daughter of the late Andrew Stalnaker and Florence (Dennison) Hardin.
On Jan. 15, 1934, she was married to Kermit George Haller, who preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1957.
Surviving are a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haller was the last member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Edna McDaniel and Flo Thomas and by eight brothers, Clay Hardin, Nestor Carl “Tobe” Hardin, James Dennison Hardin, George Hardin, Darl Hardin, Andrew Dorsey Hardin, Thomas Hardin and Garrison McClure Hardin.
Mrs. Haller held an A.B. degree from Alderson-Broaddus College and had attended Fairmont State College. She held a M.A. degree from West Virginia University and had done course work through the University of Arizona at Phoenix. She retired in 1969 from the public schools of Barbour County with 37 years service. She was a member of the Kasson United Methodist Church, the Barbour County Farm Bureau, a life member of the West Virginia Education Association, a member of AARP, the Barbour County Association of Retired School Employees and was a charter member of the Nestorville Cemetery Association. She was an avid “Mountaineer” fan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Larry Poling and the Rev. James Johnson will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Helen M. Haller
Helen Marie Haller, 73, a resident of the Holbrook on the Hill Nursing Home in Buckhannon, formerly of Philippi, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in the Holbrook following an extended illness.
She was born May 1, 1933, at Grafton, a daughter of the late Henry Melville and Bessie (Workman) Haller.
Surviving are one son, Bobby Haller, who is believed to be in the Grafton area; three brothers, J.B. “Junior” Haller of Lorain, Ohio, Ray Haller of Grafton and Ernest Haller of Terra Alta.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Catherine Shaffer.
Funeral services will be conducted at Stemple and Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St. in Philippi at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6. The Rev. Jim Tallman will officiate and interment will follow in the Bluemont Cemetery at Grafton.

Zuma Halstead
Zuma Halstead, 80, a resident of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home at Buckhannon.
She was born May 29, 1926, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Daniel Hansford Kelley and Emma Hoover Kelley.
She was married to Ezra Halstead, who preceded her in death.
Surviving is one brother, Troy Kelley of Buckhannon.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, James Richard Kelley and Jessie Dewey Kelley; and one sister,Virginia E. Kelley.
She was a homemaker and Pentecostal by faith. She was a member of the Eagles Club.

Steven M. Hamed
Steven Matthew Hamed transitioned from this life to his heavenly home Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Salem, Va.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Nov. 20, 1952, he spent most of his childhood in Green Bank, where he enjoyed growing up on his parents’ farm.
Steve was a 1976 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and spent 12 years in active duty in the Air Force as an F-16 fighter pilot. In August 1987, he transferred and continued flying the F-16 in the Montana Air National Guard. He retired from active duty as a major in 1995. His passion for flying led him to become a pilot flying domestically in the 727 and internationally in the DC-10 for Northwest Airlines, where he worked from 1989 to 1998. Steve lived life to the fullest and was named the “been there; done that” guy by his daughters, who were always amazed by his list of accomplishments.
Steve is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rhonda Wenger Hamed and three daughters, Alicia and Matti Hamed of Roanoke, Va., and Zizi Hamed of New Orleans, La. Also, he is survived by his father, Julian Hamed, and mother, Jane Hamed, of Green Bank; and his two brothers, David Hamed of Dearborn, Mich., Joe Hamed and sister-in-law, Karen Hamed, of Christiansburg, Va.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Arbovale United Methodist Church in Arbovale. The Revs. Tom Hill and David Rittenhouse will officiate. Longtime friend and fellow pilot, Jay Baldwin, will deliver the eulogy.

Barbara Hammonds
Barbara Ann Hammonds, 41, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Oct. 16, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born March 12, 1965, at Prince George, Md., a daughter of Eugene and Iona McCauley Hammonds, who survive in Mill Creek.
Also surviving are her husband, Gary D. Carpenter; two sons, Bryan C. Lanham of Mill Creek and Clint R. Taylor of Elkins; one daughter, Ashley D. Lanham of Mill Creek; three brothers, Greg Hammonds and Randy Hammonds, both of Mill Creek, and Doug Hammonds of Windom, Ohio; and one sister, Sheryl Lanham of Huttonsville.
She was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1984 and was a homemaker.

Howard Hammonds
Howard B. “Jack” Hammonds, 74, of Navarre, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born Oct. 10, 1931 to the late Currence and Minnie (Louk) Hammonds in West Virginia.
As a member of the U.S. Army, Jack served in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Jack was employed with Canton Elevator Co., in Massillon, and retired from the Timken Co. after 30 years of service. Jack was a member of Navarre Veterans of Foreign Wars, Navarre Moose and American Legion in Massillon. He loved hunting and fishing but his greatest passion was playing bluegrass music, as a member of the Red Lantern Bluegrass band in Brewster, Ohio, there wasn’t an instrument he couldn’t play.
Jack was preceded in death by brothers, Roe, Delmar, Verl, Arthur and Bill; and sisters, Nina “Sis” and Jean.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Rosa (Tete); daughters, Kathy Eichelberger (Brian) and Tammy Benson (Bill); granddaughters, Rheannon Middaugh, Heather and Brittany Benson and Faith Walters; one brother, Harold (Mary) Hammonds of Canton; many special close nieces and nephews; and his bluegrass band family and friends.

Larry R. Hammonds
Larry R. Hammonds, 59, a former resident of Valley Bend and a resident of Adolph Road, where he had made his home with his parents, Tom and Mabel Hammonds, for the past three months, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, in the West Penn Burn Center from injuries sustained in an accident.
Born Oct. 23, 1946, he was the son of Thomas “Tom” and Mabel Gear Hammonds of the Adolph Road.
Larry is also survived by one daughter, Misty Lynn Hammonds of Hagerstown, Md.; one son, Randy Hammonds of Adolph Road, Mill Creek; three sisters, JoEllen Denney and friend, Pete Zeltman, of Elkins, Sandra Straughn and Pamela Friend, both of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Danny Hammonds and wife, Joyce Ann, of Baltimore, Md., and Timothy Hammonds and friend, Terry, of Pasadena, Md.
Larry was preceded in death by his companion of 12 years, Cheryl Singleton, who preceded him in death Sept. 14, 2005.
He was a carpenter and painter for Anthen’s Paint Contractors for many years. He also did work on the Francis Scott Key Bridge. He was formerly employed by Bethlehem Steel. Larry liked to hunt and spend time with his family and friends.
At the request of the deceased, the remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Clara I. Hamner
Clara Isabelle Davis Hamner, 87, a resident of Parsons and more recently a resident of the Colonial Place at Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Nov. 5, 2006, in Colonial Place. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1918, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Carl Clifton Davis and Rose Hebb Davis.
On Sept. 4, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to James E. Hamner, who preceded her in death, Jan. 10, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Elaine Friend and husband, Bill, of Middleway and Lois Jean Hockman and husband, Steve, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Jeff Hockman of Charlestown, Anessa Griffith and husband, Jeff, of Jane Lew, Scott Friend and Kyle Friend, both of Middleway, and Aaron S. Hockman of Laramie, Wyo.; and two great-grandsons, Jared and Tanner Griffith of Jane Lew.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton Davis and Richard Davis; and one sister, Connie Dietz.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1937. She was a member of the Parsons High School Alumni of which she was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame. She was an active member of the Blackwater Chapter Daughter of the American Revolution. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Parsons and the United Methodist Women of the church. She was a homemaker.

George Junior Hamner passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, as a result of a mine disaster at the Sago Mine in Upshur County.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah; and daughter, Sara and her husband, Martin Bailey.

Bryan E. Hamrick
Bryan E. Hamrick, 65, of Hockingport, Ohio, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006, with friends at his side.
He was born April 29, 1941, in Randolph County, a son of the late Noland and Maude Salisbury Hamrick.
He had spent his early life in Randolph County before coming to Marietta, Ohio. He was a gun collector and a John Deere collector and enjoyed working with motors. He was a dedicated employee at MIE for 35 years.
He is survived by two children, Eddie Hamrick and his wife, Crystal, and Brenda Gregory and her husband, Kyle, all of Marietta, Ohio; five grandchildren, Brayden McCauley, Kaylee Hamrick, Keith Hamrick, Kelly Gregory and Lisa Gregory; and three sisters, Dora Winkler and her husband, Blaine, of Covington, Ky., Kathy Reed of Parkersburg and Portia Fortney of Buckhannon.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with the Rev. Rollie Schwendeman officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Church Cemetery at Buckhannon. Margaret Welch Shannon Hamrick, 69, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 10, 1937, at Coalton, a daughter of the late Wirt and Mabel Arbogast Welch.
She was twice married. On March 19, 1954, she was married to John Shannon, who preceded her in death in April of 1981. In August of 1983, she was married to Ralph Hamrick, who survives.
Also surviving are six sons, Lonnie Shannon and wife, Charlotte, of Charlotte, N.C., John Shannon and wife, Jo Ann, of Charleston, Bill and Steve Shannon, both of Elkins, Mike Shannon and wife, Michelle, of Winchester, Va., and Tim Shannon and wife, Rhonda, of Elkins; two daughters, Debra Westfall of Elkins and Martha Workman and husband, Mike, of Buckhannon; and three stepchildren, Debbie Hill and friend, Brian Fleming, of Vienna, Junior Hamrick and wife, Becky, of Harman and Donna Hutton and husband, Brad, of Elkins. Six brothers, Bill Welch and wife, JoAnn, of Ohio, Bob Welch and wife, Juanita, of Marlinton, Charlie Welch and wife, Mary Teresa, of Elkins, Sterl Welch and wife, Patti, and Joe Welch and wife, Mary, all of Mabie; four sisters, Geraldine Pingley and friend, Gerald, of Norton, Shirley Harvey and husband, Virgil, of South Carolina, Retha Chenoweth and husband, Ronnie, of Elkins and Caroline Cox of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding her in death was one brother, Wirty Welch; one sister, Helen Fox; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Hamrick was a retired employee of the Randolph County Schools. She was a member of Kynette United Methodist Church and a former member of the board of directors of the Randolph County Sheltered Workshop and Seneca Designs.

Myrtle G. Hamrick
Myrtle Grace Hamrick, 85, a resident of Vector Avenue, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 31, 2005, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, where she had been a patient for the passed three and a half weeks.
Mrs. Hamrick was born July 2, 1920, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Robert and Dove Weese Simmons.
On Aug. 30, 1946, she married Richard H. Hamrick, who preceded her in death in February 2001.
Surviving are two sons, K.D. “Joe” Godwin and wife, Janet, and Richard Hamrick and wife, Donna, both of Elkins; three daughters, Peggy Harvey and husband, Tim, of Luray, Va., Sherri Fridley and husband, Jim, of Philippi and Brenda Hunt and husband, Jeff, of Moatsville; one brother, Henry Simmons; two sisters, Pauline Hamrick and Marguerite Byrne, all of Elkins; four grandchildren, including David Godwin and wife, Kris, of Starkville, Miss., and Jaymie Wilfong and husband, Matt, of Elkins; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, a daughter, Bonnie Wymer, one grandson and three brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hamrick worked for a number of years as a clerk at G.C. Murphy Co. and the Community Market. She was later employed by the state of West Virginia as a secretary at the Huttonsville Correctional Center for 10 years until her retirement. Mrs. Hamrick was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed and cherished many special friendships.

Virginia L. Hamrick
Virginia Lucille Hamrick, 75, a resident of Mogadore, Ohio, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at her residence. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
Born July 8, 1930, at Mill Creek, she was the daughter of the late Hileary and Ethel Jordan Currence.
On Dec. 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ottie Hamrick, who preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1983.
Lucille is survived by three daughters, Connie Bender and husband, Hiram Jr. “Cowboy,” of Stow, Ohio, Kathy Hamrick and friend, Eddie, of Elkins and Brenda Highman and husband, Gary, of Mogadore, Ohio; one son, Ronald “Ronnie” Hamrick of Spencer; two sisters, Nellie Shiflet and Beatrice Markley, both of Mill Creek; three brothers, George “Andy” Currence and wife, Wilda, William “Bill” Currence and wife, Betty, all of Mill Creek and Woodrow “Wilson” Currence of Elkins; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Lucille was preceded in death by one son, Lonnie Ray Hamrick; one sister, Jean Currence Corley; and one brother, Hileary “Boone” Currence Jr.
She was a seamstress for Reidboards. She loved working search word puzzles and going fishing. She especially loved spending time with her family. She attended the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church. Lucille will be greatly missed and will remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home today after 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Lucille will be moved to the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church for visitation from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Rose Ann “Dee” Haney, 68, a resident of Circleville, died March 15, 2006, in Grant Memorial Hospital at Petersburg.
She was born May 18, 1937, at Johnstown, Pa., a daughter of the late John Michael Buchan and Pauline Thomas Mattingly.
She was married to William Norman Haney Sr., who preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, William N. Haney II of Philadelphia, Pa., and Thomas Francis Haney of Prescott, Wis.; four stepgrandchildren; two nephews, John Buchan and Jim Buchan, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; and four great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Earl Buchan.
She was the first female computer operator for U.S. Steel, retiring in 1982 after 27 years of service. She was a member of U.S. Steel Workers and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Mr. Robert E. “Johnny” Harlan, 66, a resident of Norton, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 23, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. His death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Jan. 25, 1940, at Norton, a son of the late Eugene and Margaret Harlan.
He was married April 15, 1989 to Edna Louise Howard McCartney Harlan, who survives at Norton.

Elizabeth R. Harman
Elizabeth “Betty” Rachel Harman, 81, of Harman, passed away March 11, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
She was born Feb. 20, 1925, at Deerfield, N.J., a daughter of the late John Hummel and Olive Tash Camp Nichols.
Her husband, Warren Gale Harman, preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by three daughters, Sheryl and Bruce Hartley of Clarks Summit, Pa., Phyllis and Tim Turner of Parsons and Sharon Harman of Harman; two sisters, Marjorie and Curtis Pompper of New Castle, Del. and Carol Schweitzer of Bridgeton, N.J.; sister-in-law, Ruthaleen and Bill Edwards of Cumberland, Md.; two grandchildren, Scott Hartley and Krista and John Weber; one great-grandchild, Sydney Weber; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn Marie Harman; three brothers, Kenneth, Edward and Horace; and one sister-in-law, Eva Cooper.
Mrs. Harman worked as a mail order clerk for Sears in Bridgeton, N.J., and for a short time as a clerk at the Harman post office. She was a member of Harman Church of the Brethren and a member of CBWF.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harman Church of the Brethren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at the church with the Rev. John Mowers, the Rev. John C. Harman
John C. Harman, 81, of Peterstown, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital at Pearisburg, Va. He struggled nobly and with good humor against cancer over a year.
He was born May 29, 1924, at Elkins, the son of the late Fred D. and Susie G. Harman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a younger sister, Sue Harman Bergren and an elder sister, Sarah I. Harman.
Mr. Harman resided most of his life in West Virginia with the exception of the 15 years he lived in Tavares, Fla. He retired from Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone in 1982 after 40 years of service, during which time he spent four years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps with the rank of first lieutenant. Mr. Harman was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a licensed radio amateur, member of the Telephone Pioneers, past president of the Rotary and Lions Club and a former member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was a scout master of two different locations. Mr. Harman had no religious affiliation. He belonged to no one church group.
Survivors include his wife, Janice M. Harman; one brother, Fred D. Harman of Fairfax, Va.; and two half brothers, Jacob and William Harman.
He will be missed as a devoted husband, a kind uncle, a loyal brother and a generous friend.
It was the request of Mr. Harman to be cremated with no visitation or memorial service. Arrangements by Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home of Peterstown.  From 24 Mar 2006.

Betty J. Harper
Betty Jane Harper, 73, a resident of Seneca Caverns Road, Riverton, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, in Winchester Medial Center at Winchester, Va.
She was born Aug. 17, 1932, at Macksville, a daughter of the late Baxter Hedrick and Artie Miller Hedrick.
She was married to B. Wright Harper, who survives. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Also surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Funk of Rowlesburg and Lucy Kisamore of Riverton; two sons, Merlin Harper of Riverton and Berlin Harper of Seneca Rocks; one sister, Ella Griffith of Arlington, Va.; five brothers, Hansel Hedrick of Seneca Rocks, Hugh Hedrick and Dice Hedrick, both of Coshocton, Ohio, the Rev. Roy Hedrick of Harrisonburg, Va., and Joe Hedrick of Seneca Rocks; eight grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Hedrick; one half brother, Guy Hedrick; one sister, Hazel Hedrick; and two half sisters, Elizabeth Alander and Mabel Harper.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from Circleville High School in 1950 as valedictorian and was a member of High Rock United Methodist Church.
Family will receive friends Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at her home at Riverton and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at High Rock United Methodist Church. Carol Jean Propst Harper, 68, a resident of the Moore community, Tucker County, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Jan, 4, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center. She had been in declining health since April.
She was born Saturday, Nov. 27, 1937, at Moore, a daughter of the late Bethel Propst Summerfield. She was reared by Elizabeth “Sally” Propst, who preceded her in death in March of 1996.
On Sept. 23, 1952, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Paul W. “Sweetie” Harper, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Paul W. “Button” Harper Jr., Richard R. Harper and wife, Pam, and Joseph A. Harper, all of Parsons; two daughters, Paula J. McDonald and husband, Artie, of Shavers Fork and Betty L. Pullins and husband, Stuart, of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Bernard Dale Propst of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters; Lenora Schwinabart of Elk Garden and Mary Paugh of Baltimore, Md.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Bud Summerfield; one granddaughter, Rachel Lynn McDonald; one great-grandson, Jarrett Blaine Davis; and her stepfather, Howard Summerfield.
She attended the schools of Porterwood and Parsons. She was an employee of the former Reidboard Co. at Elkins for many years, Kingsford Charcoal Co., the former Parsons Footwear and at the time of her illness, she was the supervisor of the Tucker County Wellness Center. She loved crafts, arts and painting.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 8 p.m., final rites will be conducted. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate. David P. Harper
David Paul Harper, a resident of Surfside, S.C., passed away Jan. 13, 2006, at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1948, in Lewis County, a son of the late Frank M. and Avis Lake Harper.
On Nov. 11, 1967, he was married to the former Anna M. Harshberger, who survives.
Also surviving are two sisters and their husbands, F. Ruth and Forrest C. Wilt Sr. of Buckhannon and Brenda J. and Jeffrey A. Howard of Medford Lakes, N.J.; four nephews, three nieces, five great-nephews, seven great-nieces and one great-great-niece.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald F. Harper; two nephews; and one niece.
David was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and attended Potomac State College. He began working at WBUC Radio Station while in high school and continued working in radio for many years at stations in Parkersburg, Elkins and Clarksburg and also in Tennessee, Ohio and South Carolina. In the last few years, he worked in retail in Myrtle Beach and Surfside, S.C.
At the request of the deceased, his body has been cremated and the ashes will be scattered at sea.  From 13 Feb 2006.

Jerry Edward Harper, 58, a resident of Bowden, the Glady Road, passed away Saturday morning, July 22, 2006, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born July 9, 1948, at Franklin, a son of the late John and Evelyn Hedrick Harper.
Surviving are a brother, Robert Lee Harper and wife, Elizabeth, of Bowden; two nephews, Thomas Harper of Elkins and Jeff Harper of Bowden; and several aunts and uncles.
Also preceding him in death besides his parents was a nephew, Robert Harper.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a self-employed mechanic and a member of the Job Church of God. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed sightseeing and traveling.

Joseph Allen Harper, 60, of Canaan Valley, passed away at his residence Monday, June 19, 2006.
He was born the son of Martha Alice Harper Swann on Feb. 23, 1946, at Parsons.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Kenneth Baldwin of Ravenna, Ohio; two aunts, Mary Dysle of Canton, Ohio, and Alta Jenkins of Akron, Ohio. He is also survived by several cousins.

Mary E. Harper
Mary Eloise Judy Harper, 86, a resident of Riverton, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 1, 1919, at Circleville, a daughter of the late Truman “Buzz” Arbogast and Eva Simmons.
She was twice married. First, on March 23, 1940, she was married to Roy Thurman Judy, who preceded her in death June 11, 1985. Second, on April 27, 1988, she was married to J. Paul Harper, who survives.
Surviving are one son, Gary Steven Judy and wife, Debbie, of Riverton; one sister, Nila Good of Timberville, Va.; three brothers, James “Paul” Arbogast, Ralph Arbogast and William “David” Arbogast, all of Circleville; and two grandchildren, Jeremy Judy of Riverton and Rhiannon Sonner of Winchester, Va.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, James “Price” Arbogast; and one sister, Irma Propst Day.
She was a homemaker, worked at Franklin Garment Co., Hanover Shoe, Thompson’s Restaurant and as a cook at the Senior Center. She was a member of Cornerstone Apostolic Church in Winchester, Va.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. She was born Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1922, at Onego, Pendleton County, a daughter of the late John Mark Auvil and Bessie Margaret Kisamore Auvil.
On June 20, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Roy Delmer Harper, who preceded her in death, Dec. 27, 1983.
Surviving are one son, Dannie Roy Harper and wife, Bobbie, of Follansbee; one daughter, Lois Kay Albright and husband, Jim, of Parkersburg; one brother, Carl Auvil and wife, Ruby, of Harpers Ferry; two granddaughters, Wendy Lynn Geary and husband, Greg, of Youngsville, La. and Jamie Ann Barber of Clarksburg; one grandson, J.R. Harper and wife, Diane, of Orient, Ohio; four great-grandsons, Brock Geary of Youngsville, La., Dylan Harper of Orient, Ohio and DeAndre and Darohm Barber, both of Clarksburg; two great-granddaughters, Courtney Geary of Youngsville, La., and Drew Harper of Orient, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one brother, Don Auvil; two sisters, Joy Auvil and Geneva Auvil Woodward; two granddaughters, Sharon Diane and Cynthia Renee Albright; and one great-granddaughter, Deziray Barber.
Ruby was a graduate of Circleville High School with the class of 1939, had formerly worked at the Dutch Oven Bakery, the Western Maryland Federal Credit Union and owned and operated the IGA Store at Cowen for eight years. She was a member of the John Hart Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and was an active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle and had served as a Junior Church Leader. She was an avid genealogist. The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Fay Harris
Fay Harris, 49, a resident of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Buckhannon.
She was born Aug. 24, 1957, at Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Denver Ray Kesling and Wilma Imogene Bailey Kesling.
On July 16, 1975, she was married to Steven Harris, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one daughter, Dotti Dietz and husband, Joshua, of Fort Ashby; and two grandsons, Dakota Dietz and Kaden Dietz of Fort Ashby.
She was a floor boss for Mt. State Printing.

Cleva H. Harrold
Cleva Hart Harrold, 90, a resident of Sun City West, Ariz., and former resident of Elkins, passed away in her sleep Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006.
She was born Aug. 19, 1915, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Hugh and Effie Simmons Hart.
On Oct. 18, 1936, she married Amos B. Harrold, who preceded her in death in October 1991.
Surviving is one son, Ed Harrold and wife, Carolyn (Isner) Harrold with whom she made her home. Also surviving are two grandsons, Heath Harrold and wife, Patricia, of Omaha, Neb. and Brant Harrold and wife, Christy, of Denver, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren, Corinne and Gerrit Harrold of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Lynn Harrold; and three brothers.
Mrs. Harrold graduated from Elkins High School and attended David & Elkins College. She worked as a secretary for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.  From 30 Aug 2006.

James S. Harris
James Stroden Harris, SFC, USA, retired, 72, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born May 11, 1934, at Webster Springs, a son of the late Theodore G. and Barbara E. Cook Harris.
On May 13, 1992, he married Pebble Darlene Stackpole, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Keith Harris of Buckhannon, William Harris and Jim Harris Jr, both of Washington; three daughters, Cheryl Hillyard and husband, Robert, of Charleston, Rita Lieb and husband, Kurt, of Bretzenheim, Germany and Juanita Harris of Buckhannon; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Bly Harsh of Great Mills, Md.; three stepsons, Maurice Lee Harsh and wife, Kelly, of Fayetteville, Pa., Douglas Harsh of Morgantown and Jeremy Harsh of Buckhannon; one sister, Margarite V. Zirkle of Buckhannon; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine M. Harris; and three brothers, Matthew M., John F. and Leonard A. Harris.
Mr. Harris first joined the service June 20, 1951, and followed with many re-enlistments. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations: Purple Heart, Combat Medical Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal with one Overseas Bar, Good Conduct Medal, Expert M-1 Rifle, SS .45 Cal. Pistol, CMB (second award), Vietnam Service Medal, NDSM with OLC, GCM Fifth Award, VCM, VSM, VNCT with BS Development, Bronze Star Medal and Bronze Star Medal with first OLC. He was awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the 31st Medical Group, U.S. Army Europe for his meritorious performance of duty during the period from July 3, 1966 to Feb. 6, 1969.
He received at least three Certificates of Training: one from the 46th Surgical Hospital (MA) for blood banking procedures course, class No. 5; one from Fort Hood, Texas, from the First Armored Division Intelligence School and one from the advanced medical specialist course (911.3).
He retired from the Army on Sept. 1, 1971. He was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Mountaineer State Cloggers of Weston. He was also a retired school bus driver for the Upshur County Board of Education and was a member of Faith Tabernacle of Buckhannon.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor James Russell presiding. John W. Hartley
John W. Hartley Jr., 83, a resident of Baughman Towers, Philippi, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1923, at Mt. Clair, a son of the late John W. and Mary Hartley.
He is survived by his former wife, Louise Hileman.
Also surviving are one daughter, Janet D. Hartley of Topeka, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Brenda Carper of Salem; one brother, Charles Hartley; and three grandchildren, Brenda Lee Hartley of Parsons, Richard Lee Hartley Jr. and Alisha Swiger of Topeka, Kan.
Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lee Hartley; and one sister, Irene Richardson.
He was a handyman and liked to do odd jobs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Barbour County American Legion Post 44. Mr. Hartley was Baptist by faith.

Susan Jean Hathaway, age 53 years, a resident of Summit Street, Elkins, departed this life Friday morning, July 7, 2006, as a result of injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident.
She was born Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1953 at Greenville, S.C., a daughter of the late Daniel Webster McClain and Betty McClain, who survives at Greensboro, N.C.
Surviving are her husband, Gardner Hathaway, Montrose; two sons, Hopi Daniel Hathaway and Eli Henry Hathaway; and one daughter, Kelly McClain Hathaway, all of Morgantown.

Susan Jean Hathaway, 53, a resident of Summit Street, Elkins, departed this life Friday morning, July 7, 2006 as a result of injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident.

Susan attended Grimsley High School in Greensboro, N.C. and Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., majoring in voice and music education. She and her husband, Gardner, performed as a vocal duo in the Elkins area for a number of years. She was also an avid gardener and animal lover with a remarkable sense of humor that was contagious. Her warm and gentle soul exceeded the boundaries of human kindness. Susan was employed at the Cheat River Inn and with the United States Census Bureau. She will be sorely missed by family, friends, co-workers and all who knew her.

Florence Holt Haught, 99, a resident of Chilhowie, Va., passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 1:05 p.m. at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va.
She was born Oct. 4, 1906, in Flemington, N.J., a daughter of the late William Young Holt and Mary E. Wyckoff Holt. Mrs. Haught was married on Dec. 21, 1929, to Frederic B. Haught who preceded her in death April 25, 1988.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Powell and husband, Dave, of Chilhowie, Va.; one son, Alan F. Haught and wife, Carol, of South Glastonbury, Conn.; a special friend, Tricia Haught Foley of South Glastonbury, Conn.; three grandsons, David Haught of South Glastonbury, Conn., Frederick Powell of Edmond, Okla., and Kevin Powell of Ashburn, Va.; three granddaughters, Katherine Wandel of Shamammish, Wash., Susan Harten of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Deborah Fletcher of Franklin, Mass.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as a daughter, Jean M. Haught.
Mrs. Haught was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and the Washington School for Secretaries in Washington, D.C., and attended West Virginia University. She taught English and Latin at Mark Twain High School in southern West Virginia, was the secretary to the director, Inter-American Schools Service, American Council on Education in Washington, D.C., and at retirement was a secretary at Research Analysis Corp., Department of the Army in McClean, Va.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Heavner Cemetery with the Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating.  From 16 May 2006.

Maxine Hauser, 93, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at her home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1912, at Philippi, the daughter of the late Page Poling and Gladys Marple Poling.
She is survived by three granddaughters, Kathleen Jebbia and husband, Rusty, of Wheeling, Suzanne Miller and Carolyn Casella and husband, Tony, all of Buckhannon; two great-grandsons, Anthony Casella and Gage Casella of Buckhannon; and one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Jebbia of Wheeling.
Also preceding her in death were her first husband, Otto Warner Queen; one daughter, Patricia Ann (Queen) Miller, who died June 16, 2006; one brother, Frederick Poling; and her second husband, George Hauser.
She was head secretary of IBEW Local 573 and attended Sago Baptist Church. She was a member of Pythian Sisters, Sunday school class at Chapel Hill and played organ at Whitescarver Funeral Home for many years and in a quartet in Ohio.

Beulah Mae (Roy) Hay departed this life at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, in Culpeper Memorial Hospital at Culpeper, Va.
She was born Oct. 18, 1918, the daughter of the late Elwood Roy and Mary (Clayton) Roy.
Surviving are her daughter, Edith Taylor and husband, Joseph, of Lignum, Va.; two granddaughters, Sharon Stull of Culpeper, Va., and Rachel Willette of Jacksonville, Fla.; one grandson, Russell Rohrbaugh of Midway Park, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Gloria Stull in the U.S. Army, Cameron Stull of Culpeper, Va., Noah Davidson and Stephanie Willette of Jacksonville, Fla.; one great-great-grandson; four sisters, Clara Waters of Carrollton, Ga., Violet Rutstrom of Chardon, Ohio, Thelma Patrick of Bessemer, Pa., and Dorles Teter of Dryfork; two brothers, Shannon Roy of Geneva, Ohio, and Elwood Roy Jr. of Pasadena, Texas; one aunt, Ocie Clayton of Webster Springs; and many nieces and nephews to whom she was fondly known as Aunt “B.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mable Ketterman; and two brothers, Raymond Roy and A.L. Roy.

Elwood G. Hayes
Elwood G. Hayes, 83, a resident of College Avenue in Buckhannon, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his home.
He was born Oct. 16, 1922, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Dale and Goldie Lee Hayes.
On Oct. 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dama Curry Hayes, who survives .
Also surviving are six children, Naomi Jane Moellenhoff and husband, Arno, of Beaufort, S.C., Betty Sue Bougher and husband, Robert, of Harmony, Pa., Dorothy Marie Lieb and husband, John, of Niceville, Fla., Gloria Lynn Smith and husband, Richard, of New Castle, Pa., William Glenn Hayes of Kanawha Head and Dale Roscoe Hayes and wife, Kimberly, of Midlothian, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Junior Dale Hayes of Ohio and James Esley Hayes of Kanawha Head; and four sisters, Georgia Marie Adcock, Jeannette Lou Hayes and Joan Virginia Rice, all of Ohio, and Bonnie Jean Vollanga of Bridgeport.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
He was a retired welder for U.S. Steel American Bridge Co. in Ambridge, Pa., and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, at the funeral home chapel. Wilbur F. Hayhurst
Wilbur F. Hayhurst, 86, of Fairmont, the Meadowdale community, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2006, in Fitzwater’s Chandler House in Fairmont.
He was born at Smithtown, on June 17, 1919, a son of the late George Lonnie Hayhurst and Ella Rose Morgan Hayhurst.
Mr. Hayhurst worked as the district manager for Monongahela Power Co. from 1954 to 1982 for the areas of Sistersville, New Martinsville and Saint Marys. He served as a corporal with the 313 wing 20th U.S. Air Force at Tinian Island Airfield during World War II. He had attended J&J Chapel United Methodist Church in Meadowdale. Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He held the low golf score of 29 at White Day Golf Course for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Freda Wamsley Hayhurst; a son, David Alan Hayhurst of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Carole Hayhurst Mitchell of Vineland, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Eloise Hayhurst of Fairmont; six grandchildren, David Mitchell and his wife, Noelle, John Hayhurst and his wife, Suzanne, Kimberly McCann and her husband, Michael, Denise Smith and her husband, Charles, James Mitchell and his wife, Diane, and Carol Ann Ciccio and her husband, Steven, all of New Jersey; 13 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayhurst was preceded in death by three brothers, Ivan A. Hayhurst, Edward Hayhurst and Marcus R. Hayhurst.

William Issac Haymond, 84, a resident of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, in Serenity Care at Buckhannon.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean McNemar Haymond of Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah and husband, Wayne Davis, and Barbara Haymond, all of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Joshua Davis and Jeremy Davis; one granddaughter, Christine Davis; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Simmons; one half brother, Edward Haymond; and one half sister, Martha Haymond Arthur.
He was a building inspector for the U.S. government and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 5, at Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Rick Cutright officiating. Visitation and luncheon for family and friends will follow at Riverbend Golf Course on Evunbreath Acres Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Georgianna Heath
Georgianna Heath, 75, of Davis, passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 28, 2006.
She was born Nov. 26, 1930, at Davis, a daughter of the late Ernest George and Nora Virginia Dickson Beyer.
Georgianna is survived by her husband, Warren “Mel” Heath; daughters, Donna Roman (Steve) of Mentor, Ohio, and Carol McCullough (Tim) of East Lake, Ohio; granddaughter, Kimberly McCullough of East Lake, Ohio; sisters, Evilee Iden of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Gertrude Tonelli of San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Beyer; and one sister, Elsie Pell.
Georgie and Mell lived in Ohio for 35 years before retiring in Davis. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Davis.
Friend will be received Saturday, Nov. 4, at Hinkle Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Allen Schwarz will officiate. Donald Gene Hebb Sr., 71, of Thomas, passed away Aug. 5, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 21, 1934, at Sugarlands, a son of the late Russell William and Ora Marie Nazelrod Hebb.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Hebb, on June 22, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald and Connie Hebb of Thomas and Wally and Donna Hebb of Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Lisa and Robert Myers of La Rue, Ohio; one brother, Prentice Hebb of Elyria, Ohio; one sister, Mary Whetzle of Lorain, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Hebb was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed as an electrician at Alpine Coal Mines for 32 years. He was a Protestant by faith.

Mary E. Hebb
Mary Emily Hebb, 88, a resident of Saint George, departed this life Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2006, at her home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Friday, Sept. 7, 1917, at Hile Run, Leadmine, a daughter of the late Thomas Hebb and Stella Catherine Lipscomb Hebb.
She had never married.
Surviving are three nieces, Evelyn Chaney and Texieann Broadaway, both of Cedartown, Ga. and Imogene Crosswhite of Idaho; several great-nieces and nephews; and one sister in law, Ruby Hebb of Colonial Place in Elkins.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother, Alva J Hebb; and four infant brothers.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1940. She was a licensed practical nurse working for the former Tucker County Hospital until it’s closing and retiring from Cortland Acres Nursing Home. Miss Hebb loved to read, sew, crochet, knit and gardening, and she had a great love for her cats.
The family received friends at Saint George Church of God from Sunday. Final rites will be conducted at the church at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 9. Romona "Lucille" Hardy Hebb, 73, a native of Parsons, and a resident of Ethel Street, Elyria, Ohio, departed this life early Thursday morning, July 13, 2006, in South West General Health Center at Middleburg Heights, Ohio, following a short illness.
She was born Thursday, Jan. 12, 1933, at Parsons, a daughter of the late George Hardy and Mildred "Dutch" Nestor Hardy.
On Dec. 28, 1951, she was married to Russell "Prentice" Hebb, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry G. Hebb of Philippi; three brothers, Ernest, Delmis and Kenny Hardy, all of Parsons; four sisters, Phyllis Davis and Lorene Shahan of Parsons, Helen Wess of Lorain, Ohio, and Betty Bolinger of Elyria, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Nicole Hebb-Burner and Dustin Hebb.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were one son, Prentice Hebb; and one brother, Alfred Hardy.
Mrs. Hebb was a devoted member of the Christian Life Church at Lorain, Ohio, and loved spending time with family and friends.

Lee F. Heck, 94, of Buckhannon, Hinkleville community, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Heck was born July 10, 1912, at Pickens, to the late Martin L. and Charlotte Powers Heck.
Surviving are his wife Heaster L. Bachman of Hinkleville; two sons, Elmer D. and wife, Cora A. Heck, of Buckhannon, William Randall and wife, Dawn Heck, of Clarksburg; one daughter, Mary Jane Heck Shipman of Jefferson, Maine; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Lynn Zipper Heck; eight grandchildren, Ronald L. Heck, Randy A. Heck, Diane L. Heck Smith, Kelly A. Heck Goheen, Candy L. Heck Gainer, William F. Heck, Amber Rapp and Marlaina Rapp; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Heck was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Lee Heck; one daughter, Linda Sue Heck; three brothers, Elmer F. Heck, Jessie D. Heck and Howard D. Heck; and two sisters, Glendine E. Heck Ramey and Mary Dale Heck Hudkins.
Mr. Heck was a coal miner retired from the State Road and worked for the DNR at the West Virginia Wildlife Center.
At the request of Mr. Heck, he will be cremated. The family will hold private services at a later date.

Jeremy Todd Heckler, 30 , a resident of Route 1, Beverly, the East Dailey community, departed this life Sunday afternoon, near Mill Creek from injuries sustained in an accident.
He was born Wednesday, May 5, 1976, at Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Dorsey Gale Heckler and Charllotte Ann Furby Heckler, who survive at Elkins.
Also surviving are his fiance, Caroline Sue Watson of East Dailey; one sister, Gail Ann Heckler Mednia and husband, Dave, of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; his paternal grandmother, Beulah Viola Poling Heckler of Beverly; his maternal grandparents, Shirley Alfred Furby and Arta Elladean Hall Furby, both of Elkins; two uncles, Darrell Heckler of St. George and Hilrey Heckler of Franklin; one aunt, Janice Daniels of Beverly; and several cousins.
Preceding him in death are his paternal grandfather, Durl Heckler and three uncles.
Jeremy attended Homestead School and Hart’s Chapel Christian Academy and was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1995. He worked as a truck driver and welder, was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, four-wheeling and swimming.

Homer L. Hedrick
Homer Lester Hedrick, 65, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.
He was born Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1941, at Elkins, a son of the late Walter Hedrick and Kathryn Lester Hedrick.
On March 20, 1972, at Cumberland, Md., he was married to the former Dorothy Jean Byrd, who preceded him in death April 4, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Kenny Heavner of North Carolina; three daughters, Barbara Hedrick of Elkins, Marilyn Powers of Virginia, and Beverly Hinchman of Belington; three brothers, Edward Hedrick of Elkins, Johnny Hedrick and wife, Patricia, of Detroit, Mich., and Roger Hedrick and wife, Linda, of Elkins; three sisters, Virginia Smith and husband, Floyd, of Elkins, Peggy Thrift of Long Creek, S.C., and Carolyn Shaffer and husband, Charles, of Elkins; six half brothers; one stepbrother; three half sisters; one stepsister; nine grandchildren, Rocky, Ben and Meledee Arbogast, Heather Hinchman, Tabitha Tincher, Gary and Scottie Bonnell and Teresa and Gary Smith; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was one daughter, Crystal Jensen; and one sister, Loretta J. Boggs.
Homer attended the Poe Run School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, had earned his blasters license and had worked as a driller at Black Rock and Limestone. He also worked at Mongold Lumber Co. before becoming disabled in 1995. He was a member of the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a Methodist by faith and loved to hunt and fish.

Lorraine Hedrick
Lorraine Kisner Hedrick died peacefully at her home Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, after a valiant battle with cancer.
She was a registered nurse, community college teacher and a drug and alcohol therapist before retiring in her seventies.
She was born in Cassville June 30, 1924. She grew up on a farm near Parsons. Her parents were the late George Washington Kisner and Hazel Lovada Moats Kisner.
She graduated from Parsons High School with honors and received her registered nurse certification from Capital City School of Nursing in Washington, D.C. At age 60, she graduated from George Mason University with honors with a bachelor’s degree in individual studies. She then started a graduate program in psychology at the University of Richmond. She was also inducted into the Parsons High School Hall of Fame. During World War II and while her husband was in college, she was a registered nurse at what is now DC General Hospital. After all of her children were grown, she worked as a registered nurse at Alexandria Hospital. Later, she was an instructor at Northern Virginia Community College and a therapist at the Church of the Reformation’s Health Center in Washington, D.C.
In a simple wartime ceremony in February 1945, Mrs. Hedrick married her next-farm neighbor and childhood friend, Robert K. Hedrick. A few days later he was sent to Germany, and they did not see each other for over a year. They had been married for 61 years.
She leaves behind three children, Robert Kenny Hedrick Jr. and his partner, Walter Huxley, of San Francisco, Ronald Dean Hedrick and wife, Teresa, of Williamsburg, Va., and Patti Lingafelt and husband, Charles, of Alexandria, Va. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Wendy Sandella and husband, Scott, Amy Hedrick, Charles Robert Lingafelt, Claire Lingafelt, Matthew Hedrick and Christopher Hedrick; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Mumford and Mallory Mumford; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hedrick was an extremely focused individual who did not accept the status quo. She was a constant fighter for what she thought was right. Mrs. Hedrick and her husband were members of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Washington, D.C.

On Dec. 20, 1985, in Indonesia, he was married to Dewi Rismawaty, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mike Helmick and wife, Regina, of Front Royal, Va., and Tim Helmick and wife, Carol, of Boston, Va.; one stepson, Inok Wandi of Indonesia; one daughter, Pam Navari and husband, Richard, of Haymarket, Va.; and one stepdaughter, Kathryn Efrisca of Indonesia. Two brothers, Richard Teter and wife, Rose, of Piedmont, S.C., Ray Teter and wife, Ann, of Watauga, Tenn.; four sisters, Joan Riggleman of Mabie, Sharlene Helmick of Clarksburg, Joyce Harper and husband, Bobby, of Seneca Rocks, and Louise Teter of Marlowe Heights, Md.; and nine grandchildren, Patrick and Joey Colgan, Christopher Navari, Katelyn, Rebecca and Alyssa Helmick, Harley, Naby and Kayle Damar Putra, also survive.
One sister, Margaret Pinkard, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Helmick worked as a drilling base manager for Santos Oil and Gas of Indonesia until his retirement.

John C. Helmick
John C. Helmick, 54, of Red Rock Road in Buckhannon went to his heavenly home on Sunday, Oct. 08, 2006, in Nella’s Inc. He was born Oct. 21, 1951, in Upshur County, a son of the late Carl and Regina Raikes Helmick.
He was united in marriage, on May 17, 1975, to Gloria Page Helmick, who survives.
He is survived by three sons, Scott A. Helmick and Craig A. Helmick, both of Buckhannon, and Roger L. Tenney of Orlando, Fla.; seven brothers, the Rev. Eugene Helmick, Bobby Helmick and wife, Patty, Jack Helmick and wife, Karen, Kyle Helmick and wife, Ruby, Lyelle Helmick and wife, Genevieve, Steven Helmick and wife, Debbie, all of Buckhannon and Larry Helmick of Ohio; two sisters, Mona and husband, Jim Helmick, and Peggy Ball all of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Opal Page.
John will be sadly missed by family, many close friends and hunting companions.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Helmick; two sisters-in-law, Vada Helmick and Betty Helmick; and father-in-law, Cecil A. Page.
Mr. Helmick was a Christian by faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He was an avid coon hunter and West Virginia Mountaineer fan. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the outdoors. He took pride in the 20 years he worked as a truck driver.

Naomi L. Henline, 73, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006, at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg.
She was born July 29, 1932, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Fred Riffle and Verna Barb Riffle.
On April 15, 1952, she was married to David L. Henline, who preceded her in death Dec. 11, 1981.
Surviving are one son, Mike Henline and wife, Yvonne, of Buckhannon; one daughter, Joyce Dagley and husband, Darrell, of Buckhannon; one grandson, Trent Dagley of Buckhannon; one stepgrandson, Jason Payne of Morgantown; and two sisters, Genevieve Beer of Belington and Virginia White of Buckhannon.
Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Willie Riffle and John Riffle; and two sisters, Lucille Simons and Patricia Posey.
She was a homemaker and Methodist by faith.

Laura was a graduate of Blessed Trinity Grade School, Wheeling Central Catholic High School and received her bachelor of science degree in interior design from West Virginia University. She was a homemaker and dedicated her talents to organizations supporting the residents of the Ohio Valley.
Laura is survived by her husband, Gregory J. Herndon of Wheeling; daughter, Alexa E. Herndon and her fiancé, both of Mt. Lebanon, Pa.; son, Evan W. Herndon of Wheeling; three sisters, Jennifer A. Hill of Lakeland, Fla., Amy Smith and her husband, Paul, of Columbus, Ohio, and Ellen K. Shelek and her husband, Chris, of Wheeling; and several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins, including Denis Busch and his wife, Linda, of Bridgeport, Ohio.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 4 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling. A Mass of Christian Burial for Laura will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wheeling with the Rev. John R. Gallagher officiating. Martha Joan Herron, 52, a resident of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
She was born June 20, 1954, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Edwin Martin Stanton and Virgie Marie Shaw Stanton.
On Oct. 27, 1979, she was married to Leonard E. Herron, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are five sons, Chad Herron and wife, Tammy, of Camden, Brian Herron and wife, Kimberly, of Timberville, Va., James Herron and wife, Trisha, of Buckhannon, Joseph Herron of Buckhannon and Scott Herron of Buckhannon; two daughters, Virgie Marie Herron and Pamela Herron, both of Buckhannon; seven sisters, Mary Williams of Buckhannon, Margaret Williams of Elkins, Teresa Williams of Walkersville, Agnes Wegman of Belington, Elizabeth DeMoss of Buckhannon, Vicky Stanton of Elkins and Natalie DeBarr of Buckhannon; five brothers, Edwin Mike Stanton of Buckhannon, Jim Stanton of Wheeling, Patrick Stanton of Coalton, Mark Stanton of Beverly and Jeff Stanton of Wheeling; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Shawn Michael Herron; and brother, Peter William Stanton.
She was a homemaker and attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Mary Louise Head Hicks, 96, a resident of Central Street, Elkins, departed this life Sunday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2006, at her home.
She was born Sunday, Dec. 5, 1909, at Elkins, a daughter of the late William Thomas Head and Iris McAleer Head Godwin.
On July 8, 1931, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Joseph M. Hicks, who preceded her in death on March 24, 1958.
Surviving are one niece, Mary Frances Head of Elkins; and several other nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her stepfather, Hartsell Godwin; one brother, William Doyle Head; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Hicks.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1927 and Davis & Elkins College with the class of 1943, receiving her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught school in Randolph County for 32 years and Baltimore County, Md., for 11 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62, the Woodmen of the World Lodge 6065, the Randolph County Senior Center and the National, State and Randolph County Retired Teachers Association. She was a former member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a life member of Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary since 1973 and had worked at Davis Memorial Hospital snack bar from its beginning until the auxiliary gave up control. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Visitation teams, the Good Morning Circle, the American Baptist Women and taught Sunday school for more than 30 years.

Lillian Lucinda “Cinny” Higdon, 72, a former resident of Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington and more recently a resident of Valentine Personal Care in Elkins, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2006. She had been in failing health for the past several years, however, her condition had become critical in the last week.
Born April 28, 1933, at Kerens she was the daughter of the late Joe and Orpha Harper Taylor. On Jan. 2, 1952, in Whitchita Falls, Texas, she was united in marriage to Paul A. Higdon Jr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2004.
She is survived by one daughter, Debbie White and companion, Allen Chenoweth, of Elkins; one son, Paul A. Higdon III and companion, Kesi Besse, of Taos, N.M.; three sisters, Josephine Bland and husband, Hansel, Mary Knotts and husband, Gordon, both of DeLand, Fla., and Shirley Duryee and husband, Jerry, of Fallbrook, Calif.; one brother, Dale Taylor and wife, Billy, of DeLand, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Hester Taylor and Lynn Canfield of Sanford, Fla.; two grandsons, Michael Paul White and Matthew Martin Chenoweth; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Higdon was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita and Louise Canfield; and two brothers, Neale and Charles “Bill” Taylor.
She was a licensed beautician, a homemaker and day care provider for Children’s World in Springfield, Va. She was a Washington Redskins fan and also a fan of the late Dale Earnhardt for many years. She attended Israel United Methodist Church in Kerens.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2006. He was born Friday, June 27, 1958, at Elkins, a son of the late Cletis Higgins and Geneva Delaine Hoover Higgins.
Surviving are one daughter, Megan Delaine Higgins of Elkins; two brothers, Leon Joseph “Bud” Higgins and wife, Carol Jean, of Elkins and Donald Lee Higgins and wife, Judy, of Buckhannon; three sisters, Carra Bell Markley and husband, Jesse, of Elkins, Carris Ann Griffith and husband, Paul Rommie, of Elkins and Betty Jo Bennett and husband, Richard, of Elkins; two foster brothers, Bub and Charlie; one foster sister, Phyllis; two uncles, two aunts, eight nieces, two nephews, five great-nieces, four great-nephews and several cousins
Carlton attended Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College, was a brick mason, having worked for the Bat Masonry Co. in South Carolina, was the founder of H&A Coal Co. softball team, was a Protestant by faith and an avid music lover. Carlton was loved very much by his family and loved his family, especially his daughter, Megan.

Freta C. Hill
Freta C. Hill, 80, of Ocean View, Del., passed away peacefully at home Tuesday Oct. 10, 2006.
She was born in Montrose, a daughter of the late Omer and Mary Flanagan.
Freta was a retired clerk for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hill, in 2004; and her son, Ercel Brent Flanagan.
She is survived by daughter, Mary Joanne Wagner of Ocean View, Del.; granddaughter, Misty Dawn Bryant; a sister, Cora Orlando of Kearneysville; two great-grandchildren, Britani Wagner of Delaware and Codi Bryant of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.

Hubert D. Hill
Hubert Dale Hill, 83, a resident of the Harpertown Road, Elkins, departed this life Monday evening, Oct. 16, 2006, at his home. He had been in failing health and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Saturday, March 17, 1923, at Elliott’s Ridge, Randolph County, a son of the late Levi Hill and Irene Sage Hill.
On Nov. 23, 1945, at the First Baptist Church at Elkins, he was married to the former Betty Lou Curtis, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Janet Claire Hill of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Betty Joann Hill of Norfolk, Va.
Preceding him in death were one brother, James Robert Hill; and one sister, Ruth Hill.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1941, and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy on two military campaigns in Guam and Iwo Jima. He had worked as a mechanic for several area garages and was last employed by the Randolph County Schools as a mechanic at the bus garage. He was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, loved farming and was a Protestant by faith.
Graveside services will be Friday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli and the Rev. Nancy I. Iowana B. Hillyard
Mrs. Iowana Brady Hillyard, 92, a resident of Route 3, Box 145, Belington, departed this life Thursday evening, Dec. 28, 2006, at the home of her niece, Opal Wagoner, near Belington. She had been in declining health for the past several months.
She was born Sept. 28, 1914, at Junior, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Rachel Ellen Moore Brady.
On Oct. 13, 1936, she was united in marriage to Tom “Stu” Hillyard, who preceded her in 1996.
Surviving Mrs. Hillyard are one grandson, Dave Hillyard of Lumberport; one great-grandson, Eric Hillyard; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her only son, Thomas Junior Hillyard; three brothers and five sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Hillyard attended the schools of Barbour County, was a homemaker and was a member of Junior Church of the Brethren.

Wilfred D. Hinchman
Wilfred  D. “Wimpy” Hinchman, 67, a resident of 16051/2 Davis Ave., Elkins, passed away, Sunday, May 7, 2006, at 1:15 p.m. at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past three years.
Born Oct. 3, 1938, at Elkins, he was the son of the late Wilfred J. and Flora Haddix Hinchman.
Wimpy is survived by two daughters, Heather Hinchman and fiancee, Michael Bonnett, of Elkins and Tabitha Hinchman and fiancee, Ronnie Tincher, of Beverly; one son, Wilfred  “Dee” Hinchman II of Elkins; one sister, Irene Radcliff of Pasadena, Md.; and two brothers, Leroy Hinchman of Elkins and Frank Hinchman of Beverly. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Hailey Bonnett, Brittany Hinchman, Andrea Hinchman, Kiersten Hinchman and Codi McCauley; several special nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters, Maude Lorane Hinchman and Annie Gay Hinchman; and three brothers, Lonnie Hinchman, Calvin Hinchman and an infant brother.
Wimpy operated a ripsaw for Mongold Lumber Co. for almost 30 years, having stayed on when it became Coastal Lumber Co., retiring in the late 1990s. Wimpy had many hobbies during his life, to many to mention all of them, but these are a few that he enjoyed. He was a fastpitch softball player for Mongold’s Team, winning four championship trophies. Wimpy was an avid fisherman and hunter and an avid sports fan, having been a diehard Steelers, West Virginia University and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He also love to bowl, winning trophies for having the highest scores for Mongold’s bowling team. Wimpy also worked with wood, making many things and he loved to draw and play pool. He enjoyed swimming and loved vacationing at the beach with his family. He was a very outgoing person and never met a stranger. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle and spending time with them was his favorite pastime. Wimpy touched many lives and will be greatly missed but will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever.

Evelena Hines
Mrs. Evelena Hines, 85, of 19235 Stewart Road, Spartansburg, Pa., died at 8:58 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. Hines was born Oct. 11, 1920, at Belington, a daughter of the late James and Mary Skidmore Johnson.
She was married to Dearl Hines on Dec. 12, 1945, at Belington.
She had been employed by Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, for several years. Mrs. Hines was a member of Midway Alliance Church at Spartansburg. She was very active in the church and also performed mission work all her life.
She is survived by her husband of Spartansburg; a sister, Mrs. Bertie David of Belington; a sister-in-law, Lucille Johnson of Belington; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Johnson and Andrew “Andy” Johnson; and two sisters, Isabelle Haverty and Amy Johnson.

Mona Z. Hinkle, 97, of Franklin, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

S.E. Kenneth Hinkle
Mr. S.E. Kenneth Hinkle, 82, a resident of 1423 Cole Ave., Elkins, passed away at 12:44 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Elkins, a son of the late Snoden Scott and Margaret B. Dumire Hinkle.
On Dec. 18, 1946, in the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, he was married to Phyllis A. Jones Hinkle, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2001.
Surviving are a daughter, Bobbi Trimboli of Elkins; one brother, Robert K. Hinkle of Elkins; three sisters, Edyth Furman, Alice Weese and Eileen Arbogast all of Elkins; and one grandson, Vincent James Trimboli.
Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Genevieve Faircloth and Elizabeth Stalnaker.
Mr. Hinkle attended the schools of Elkins and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was the general manager for General Tire and Battery for 26 years and later served as sales manager and advertising manager for WDNE Radio Station until his retirement. Ken was active at the First United Methodist Church working, along with his wife, with the youth and children of the church. He was a member of the Elkins Lions Club where he was “Lion of the Year” in 1959-1960 and served as president in 1962-1963, served as director of advertising and member of the board of directors of the Mountain State Forest Festival and was instrumental in obtaining funding for the festival’s current permanent office building. He enjoyed many years of golfing and was a past active member of BPOE Lodge 1135 of Elkins, a lifetime member of the EHS Alumni Association and a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion. He was an active member of the Randolph County Senior Center where he sold advertising for the newsletter, active in the Members Council and a daily member of the Afternoon Pool Players Group. He was an avid gardner who studied and practiced organic gardening and was host to gardening classes held by the West Virginia Extension Agency.
At the request of the deceased his remains were cremated. A graveside service and interment of the cremains will be announced at a later date. Kenneth B. Hise
Kenneth Burton Hise, 79, a resident of Mill Creek passed away at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past year.
Born Feb. 16, 1927, he was the oldest son of the late James and Wilda Hise.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were his wife; and two brothers, Bill and John.
Kenneth is survived by three sisters, three brothers, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1944. After serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, he then joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany. From 1960 until his retirement in 1990, Kenneth was employed at Metro Transportation Service in Washington, D.C., returning to Mill Creek in 1993. Kenneth loved helping people and was a member of Mill Creek United Methodist Church. He was also an active member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion.

Thomas E. Hodgin
Thomas Ellis Hodgin, director of the Booth Library at Davis & Elkins College, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown as the result of a stroke.
He is survived by Lai Wan Choy Rita Hodgin of Elkins, whom he married in 1990, as well as three children, Lisa White, Jennifer Elizabeth Bouvais and Thomas Ellis Hodgin II; three grandchildren, William White, Brendan Bouvais and Chloe Hodgin, all of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Linda Trogdon of High Point, N.C.; a brother, James G. Hodgin of Kernersville, N.C.
A sister, Mrs. Julia Hodgin Dunbar of Archdale, N.C., preceded him in death in 2003.
Mr. Hodgin was born in High Point, N.C., in 1938, the son of Mrs. Stella Ellis Hodgin and Harry T. Hodgin of High Point, who both preceded him in death.
He received his bachelor’s degree in English and history from High Point College in 1965 and went on to earn the master of science degree in library science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1967. In 1981, he received a master’s degree in management from Central Michigan University.
Mr. Hodgin had a distinguished career, serving as director of libraries in Martinsville, Va., New Milford, N.J., Charleston, S.C., the University of Baltimore, the University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dharhran, Saudi Arabia, Odessa College, Odessa, Texas and the Open Learning University of Hong Kong. He also served as dean of Learning Resources at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, and, from 1969 to 1970, was a job developer for the Community Improvement Council of Danville, Va. He joined Davis & Elkins College in 1996.
Mr. Hodgin was a member of the American Library Association, the National Librarians Association, the West Virginia Library Association, the West Virginia Academic Library Directors Group, the Appalachian College Association Librarians Group, EDUCAUSE, the South Carolina Library Association, the Texas Library Association and the Hong Kong Library Association.
He published several articles in professional journals and received numerous grants in support of library development in the United States and Asia, and had served as a delegate to WORLDNET, the White House Electronic Conference on Libraries.
He chaired the Davis & Elkins College Resource Development Committee, authored D&E’s Campus Technology Plan, represented the college to the Consortium on Computing and Undergraduate Education. Hodgin belonged to the Republican Party, was active in the Downtown Merchants Association and the Elkins Depot Welcome Center, and was a Unitarian by faith.
A memorial service in celebration of Mr. Hodgin’s life will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, April 10, in Robbins Chapel at Davis & Elkins College. D&E Chaplain, the Rev. Vicki Moss, will officiate this time of reflection and celebration that will include words and music shared by friends and colleagues of Ellis. Condolences may be sent in care of the Rev. Mary N. Holliday
Mary Nell Holliday, 85, of Route 2, Philippi and a former resident of Crestwood Village, Frederick, Md., and a 40 year resident of Adelphi, Md., went home to be with her Savior on Monday, March 6, 2006, in Broaddus Hospital at Philippi, following an extended illness.
She was born July 14, 1920, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Bernard C. and Lena L. (Holbert) Shaffer.
On Sept. 3, 1949, she was married to Francis Edward Holliday, who preceded her in death May 14, 1980.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Frances Coates and husband, Barry, of Walkersville, Md.; one son, Michael Paul Holliday of Philippi; three grandchildren, Andrew F. Coates, Katherine M. Coates and Nicole J. Holliday; one brother, Hobert Shaffer of Moundsville; and one sister, Wilda Posten of Belington.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Jones.
Mrs. Holliday attended schools of Barbour County and graduated from Philippi High School in 1938. She was a homemaker who, in her early adult years, had been employed as a secretary in the U.S. Army War College and by the Greyhound Bus Co. She attended the Peoples Chapel Church at Philippi and formerly attended the Barbour and Frederick, Md., Churches of Christ.
A service in celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Peoples Chapel Church. The Rev. Ruston Seaman will officiate.

Frances Carol Norris Holsberry, a resident of Durham, N.C., passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 22, 2006, at the Durham Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 24, 1939, at Selma, N.C., a daughter of the late Henry Felton Norris and Vada Norris.
On June 2, 1967, at Tacoma Park, Md., she was married to Philip Lee “Sonny” Holsberry, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Lee Holsberry of Broadway, Va. and Richard Todd Holsberry of Granville; one brother, Melvin Leroy Norris of Columbus, Miss.; and two sisters, Margaret Graham of Franklinton, N.C. and Ellen Jean Snipes of Durham, N.C. Two grandchildren, Philip Keith Holsberry of Huttonsville and Kathleen Baker of Granville also survive.
One brother, Randolph Norris, preceded her in death.
Frances was retired from Golden Corral Enterprises where she worked as a bookkeeper.

Shirley Rose Holsberry, 69, of Buckhannon, formerly of Philippi, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, in Rosewood Health Care Center at Grafton where she had been a patient since 1991.
She was born July 13, 1936, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Clifford and Mildred Virginia (Hill) Holsberry.
Survivors include a sister, Sara Katherine Black of Hertford, N.C.; a sister-in-law, who also served as her surrogate care giver, Leona Holsberry of Buckhannon; three nieces, Edra Kay Farley of Katy, Texas, Toni Green of Chesapeake, Va., and Pamela Wilt of Kingsville, Md.; and one nephew, Eddie “Butch” Martinkus of Joppa, Md.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Holsberry and James S. Holsberry.
Miss Holsberry was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral services will be conducted from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home at 385 S. Main Street in Philippi at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14. The Rev. Bob Wilkins will officiate and interment will follow in the Philippi Masonic Cemetery.

Pauline Holt, 79, a resident of Valley Bend and a patient in Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, passed away Thursday morning, March 23, 2006, in the center.
She was born Sept. 1, 1926, at Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Martin Luther Harris and Rebecca Collins Harris.
On July 21, 1943, she was married to John F. Holt, who preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1990.
Surviving are three sons, Roger L. Holt of Arcadia, Calif., Tommy D. Holt of Zephyrhills, Fla, and Ronald E. Holt of Rogersville, Tenn.; one daughter, Barbara E. Shadrick of Winter Haven, Fla.; three brothers, Denver Harris of Mill Creek, Delbert Harris of Beverly and Glen Harris of Colorado; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were one son, Col. Jimmie F. Holt; three brothers, William, John and Roy Harris; and four sisters, Viola Wilfong, Ruth Hedrick, Lela VanOver and Laura Brace.
Mrs. Holt attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Valley Bend United Methodist Church.

Burl B. Hoover, 79, of Island Ave., Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at his home.
He was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Upshur County, a son of the late Claude and Opal Arbogast Hoover.
He is survived by his former wife, Lora, of Texas; three children and 11 grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Stutler and Helen Newcome, both of Grafton and Daisy Hoover of Richmond.
Mr. Hoover served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served during the Korean conflict and Vietnam.

He was born April 26, 1923, at Hampton, a son of the late Ira Hoover and Flora Ratliff Hoover.
Surviving are one daughter, Martha Hoover Neil of Galena, Ohio; three brothers, Junior Hoover of Tennerton, John Hoover of Buckhannon and Lyndell Hoover of French Creek; one sister, Retha Armstrong of Big Bend; one brother, Robert Hoover of Rittman, Ohio; one granddaughter, Amanda Lewis of Dayton, Ohio; two great-granddaughters, Brianna Lewis and Kelsey Lewis, both of Dayton, Ohio; and two stepsons, Robert Bonner and Roger Bonner, both of Wellington, Ohio.
Also preceding him in death were his second wife, Oneda Carpenter Hoover; his third wife, Rosland Geraldine Johnson Hoover; one son Ernie Hoover; one brother, Bud Hoover; and one sister, Violet Elbon.
He was a coal miner and attended Tallmansville Baptist Church.

John Edward Howard, 67, of Holly Grove, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at the home of his sons in Buckhannon.
He was born Feb. 19, 1939, at Kanawha Head, a son of the late Ersel Howard and Eliza Mae Humphrey Sines.
He was united in marriage with Bula Bell McIe on Nov. 12, 1963, who preceded him in death Feb. 6, 2003.
Surviving are four sons, Denny Howard and wife, Elizabeth, of Buckhannon, Albert Howard and wife, Betty, of Buckhannon, Joseph and David Howard of Buckhannon; three daughters, Luvada Howard of Buckhannon, Melissa O’Keefe and husband, Jon, of Buckhannon and Carissa Saffle and husband, John, of Audra; two stepsons, Lloyd “Dick” McIe of French Creek and John C. Howard of Brushy Fork; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Hayhurst and husband, Roy, of Tallmansville and Rosemary Robinson and husband, Richard of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, 16 stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Hayes Isenhart of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.

Andrew B. Howell Sr.
Andrew B. Howell Sr., 65, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 12:43 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 9, 1940, at Elkins, a son of the late Brown and Daisie Carr Howell.
He is survived by one son, Andrew B. “Bud” Howell Jr. and wife, Tereasa, of Elkins; one daughter, Kathy Sue Gassnola and husband, Louie, of Elkins; a brother, Michael Howell of Baltimore, Md.; four sisters, Lena Rose of Chandler, Ariz., Gladys Howell, Janet Phares and Julia Phillips, all of Elkins; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nevie Knepper; and a brother, Dorsey Ray Howell.
Mr. Howell was an employee of Tygart Block Co. and later the West Virginia Department of Transportation, from which he retired as an equipment operator. He was a Baptist by faith.

Harry E. Howell
Harry Edward “Buck” Howell, 78, a resident of Central Street, Elkins, departed this life early Monday morning, May 8, 2006. He had been in declining health.
He was born Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1927, at Beverly, a son of the late Harry Howell and Eunice Butcher Howell.
On March 3, 1950, he was married to the former Rhea Virginia Ford, who preceded him in death March 30, 2006. They had celebrated 56 years or marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel Howell of Elkins and Phillip Howell and wife, Helen, of Elkins; two daughters, Linda Goodman and fiance, Greg Coberly, of Weaver and Tamara Bartholomew of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and three grandchildren, Joshua Bartholomew, Justin Goodman and Alyssa Howell.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was one infant son, Jeffery Lynn Howell.
“Buck” attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1946. He attended Davis & Elkins College and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served at Fort Bliss, Texas. He had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways and retired as a blacksmith from the Western Maryland Railroad with 24 years of service. He enjoyed local sports and was a member of the last undefeated football team at Elkins High School in 1945. He had coached church league basketball at the YMCA for more than 20 years. He enjoyed studying the history of Randolph County and owned many history books by local authors. He loved to trout fish and his hobbies were restoring antique furniture and coin collecting. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkins.

She was born Wednesday, Feb. 20, 1929, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Clyde M. Ford and Mamie Bland Ford.
On March 3, 1950, she was married to Harry “Buck” Howell, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Daniel Howell of Elkins and Phillip Howell and wife, Helen, of Elkins; two daughters, Linda Goodman and fiancé, Greg Coberly, of Weaver and Tamara Bartholomew of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three grandchildren, Joshua Bartholomew, Justin Goodman and Alyssa Howell; three sisters, Marguerite Long of Salem, Bernadine Bellotte of Morgantown and Viola Defrances of Bayonet Point, Fla.; and one brother, Clyde M. Ford of Salem.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were one son, Jeffery Lynn Howell; one sister, Glenna Davis; and five brothers, Rolly B., Gencil W., Maynard R., Doyle Bland and Philip Sheridan Ford.
Rhea was a graduate of Doddridge County High School with the class of 1946 and attended Salem College. She worked for the C&P Telephone Co. for 10 years and had also worked for Stephen’s Food Service at the Tygart Hotel and Gino’s Pizza. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 56 years, was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli will officiate and interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens, formerly the IOOF Cemetery at Elkins. Joseph H. Hradsky
Joseph Henry Hradsky, 82, of Thomas, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.
He was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Joseph Emmanuel and Anna Josephine Zavadil Hradsky.
On Nov. 5, 1944, he married his wife of 61 years, Violet Marie Sine Hradsky.
He is also survived by one daughter, Marie Elaine (and Donald Lorenzo) Evans of Augusta; one grandchild, Russell Paul Colley Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Corey, Logan and Tanner Colley.
Mr. Hradsky was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0139/Baltimore, Md. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Violet M. Hradsky
Violet Marie Hradsky, 83, of Thomas, passed away Nov. 11, 2006, in Winchester Medical Center at Winchester, Va.
She was born April 3, 1923, at Pierce, a daughter of the late Jasper Simon Sines and Tracy Orel Purnell Sines.
She was a loving wife to Joseph Henry Hradsky whom she met in 1942. At the age of 21, on Nov. 5, 1944, they were married and celebrated 61 years of marriage until Joseph’s death on Jan. 12, 2006.
Survivors include one daughter, Marie Elaine and husband, Donald Lorenzo Evans, of Augusta; two sisters, Leona Edwards of Thomas and Opal Ragno of Baltimore, Md.; one grandson, Russell Paul “Rusty” and wife, Becky Colley, of Clarksburg; and three great-grandsons, Corey Russell, Logan William and Tanner Joseph Colley, all of Clarksburg.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Arvin Sines; and five sisters, Luella James, Louise Bland, Velma Hymes, Mabel Sines and Eloise Sines.
She was employed for 12 years by Levenson & Klein Furniture in Baltimore, Md. Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Hinkle Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Arkie B. Huffman
Arkie Basil Huffman, 67, a resident of Volga, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Upshur County, a son of the late Glen and Ina Hinzman Huffman.
He was united in marriage July 8, 1969 to Mary E. “Jean” Thorne Huffman, who survives at home.
Also surviving are one daughter, Pam and husband, Rex Casto, of Volga; three sons, Gary Lynn Huffman and friend, Jenny Criss, of Audra, Tony Lee and wife, Kelly Huffman, of Philippi and John Glenn “Bones” and wife, Susie Huffman, of Century; one sister, Ilene Huffman of Audra; two grandchildren, Rex Allen Casto and Tristan Runner; and one stepgrandson, J.D. Haller.
Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Paul Huffman.
Mr. Huffman retired from the Sago mines in Tallmansville as a mechanic and certified electrician. Mr. Huffman was a Methodist by faith.

Audrene M. Hughes
Audrene Mae Coberly Hughes, 76, of Newport News, Va., died at her home Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006
Born Oct. 1, 1929, at New Castle, Pa., she was the daughter of Glenna and W.O. Coberly.
She lived in Elkins before moving to Newport News. She retired from the York County School System in 1991. She taught math for 40 years and served as math supervisor for four years. Audrene was a member of the Agape class at Temple Baptist Church as well as the Mary Saunders group. She formerly served as the W.M.U. Director at Temple Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenna and W.O. Coberly and her sister, Nyo Chintala.
Audrene is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Archie Hughes; her sister, Nelma Jean Bailey and her husband, Phil, of Ft. Loudon, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Nellie Groves of Charleston; her brother-in-law, Russell Hughes, and his family of Tuscan, Ariz.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., today at Riverside-Altmeyer Funeral Home Chapel, 7415 River Road, Newport News. Va. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Temple Baptist Church with burial following in Parklawn Memorial Park. Flossie L. Humphrey
Flossie Leola Humphrey, 72, of Kanawha Head, died Monday, March 20, 2006, in Braxton County Health Care Center.
She was born Feb. 2, 1934, at Kanawha Head, a daughter of the late James Edward and Eva Bernice Riley Humphrey.
Flossie is survived by four brothers, Minter G. Humphrey of Kanawha Head, Parley Humphrey of Crawford, Maynard Humphrey of Maryland and Troy Humphrey of Crawford; and
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virgie Meeks and an infant sister; and two brothers, Harley and Filbert.
She was a Methodist by faith.

Harold C. Humphrey Sr.
Harold C. Humphrey Sr., 68, a resident of Weston, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital at Weston.
He was born April 1, 1938, at Kanawha Head, a son of the late Lewis Ancil Humphrey and Oletia Robinson Humphrey.
Surviving are one son, Harold Claude Humphrey Jr. of Buckhannon; two daughters, Brenda (Humphrey) Jones and husband, Rob, and Linda (Humphrey) Rowan of Volga; grandchildren, Travis, Heidi and Kody Humphrey of Buckhannon, John David and Michael Humphrey of Buckhannon, Charolette Swyger and husband, Brian, of North Carolina, Shielia Zickefoose of Buckhannon and Shelly Rowan of Buckhannon; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ancil Cleve Humphrey of Buckhannon, John Clark Humphrey of Buckhannon and Roy Clifford Humphrey of Kanawha Head; three sisters, Mavis Alice Humphrey of Pennsylvania, Mabel Tenney and husband, Dave, of Buckhannon and Mazie Sipes and husband, Jamie, of Frenchton; and ex-wife, Linda Straub of Ohio.
Also preceding him in death were one sister, Veta Humphrey; one brother, Marvin Clyde Humphrey; and ex-wife, Easter Wingate.
He was a Christian. He had various occupations including small business owner, carpenter, industrial assembly foreman and Medina County Veterans Transport. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans of Ohio Chapter 72, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ohio and West Virginia and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home. Mary J. Hunt
Mary Jo Hunt, 59, a resident of Buckhannon, died, Sunday, May 7, 2006, at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg.
She was born June 15, 1946, at Meadowbrook, a son of the late Daniel Boone Gowans and Mary Jane Reed Gowans, who survives at Meadowbrook.
On Oct. 8, 1964, she was united to marriage to George T. Hunt, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one daughter, Shannon Clem and husband, Brian, of Hinkleville; one son, Davis Hunt II and wife, Tracy, of Buckhannon; three grandsons, George Clem of Hinkleville, Davis Hunt III of Buckhannon and Jason Clem of Hinkleville; three granddaughters, Savanna Clem of Hinkleville, Rachel Hunt and Hannah Hunt, both of Buckhannon; one brother, Daniel Boone Gowans of Meadowbrook; and two sisters, Lois DeBarry and Connie Kimball, both of Meadowbrook.
She was a cook at Child Development Center and attended River of Life Ministries of Hodgesville.
Friends will be received 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Cutright officiating. Opal K. Hunt
Opal Kathleen Hunt, 96, of Mt. Hebron community, Buckhannon, died Thursday morning, Jan. 26, 2006, in Mansfield Place at Philippi, following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 19, 1909, at Ford Run, Philippi, a daughter of the late Lee and Ellen Moats Thompson.
On May 12, 1928, she was married to Harold Denver “Dutch” Hunt, who preceded her in death on March 12, 1977.
Surviving are three sons, Denver (Wilma) Hunt of Moatsville, Albert (Winnie) Hunt of Mt. Hebron Community and Franklin (Juanita) Hunt of Volga; one daughter, Agnes (Carl) Winans of Baltimore, Md.; a son-in-law, Willard Thomason of Warren, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, 39 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Hazel Marceline Hunt and Corinne Thomason; four sisters, Audra Nutter, Bertha Nutter, Juanita Wiseman and Margaret Murphy; five brothers, Ernest Thompson, Everett Thompson, Orville Thompson, Herbert Thompson and Anther Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Hunt, Darin Hunt and Logan Hunt.
Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker who enjoyed her flower garden. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Barbour County Senior Citizens.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi. The Rev. Destry Daniels and Mrs. Jessie Lou Shaw will officiate and interment will follow in Mt. Hebron Memorial Hunt Family Cemetery. Rodney C. Hunt
Rodney C. Hunt, 94, of Buckhannon, formerly of Hollywood, Fla., and Washington, Pa., died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, in his home.
He was born May 24, 1912, at Morris Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of William L. and Clara Kilgore Hunt.
He attended the former Nineveh School in Greene County, Pa., and graduated from Trinity High School in Washington, Pa., with the class of 1933. While in Florida, he operated Hunt’s Lawn Care Service for many years, and when last living in Washington, Pa., he was a hearse driver for the Ambulance and Chair Service. Mr. Hunt was a member of Faith Christian Church of Hollywood, Fla. He was also a member of Doric Lodge 140 F & AM of Fort Lauderdale. He enjoyed his family, reading and gardening.
On April 1, 1936, he was married to Sara “Sally” F. Conger Hunt, who died Feb. 19, 1993.
Surviving are a son, Rodney “Sonny” H. Hunt; and a daughter, Clara Carrier, both of Buckhannon; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Tamara Gosnell; six brothers, Herschel, Alva, George and Clarence Hunt and Leo and Lance Beabout; and three sisters, Klova Vorhes, Lefa Keck and Alma Hunt.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, in Hummell and Barnhill Funeral Home Inc., located at 420 Locust Ave., Washington, Pa. (724-225-7710). William N. Hupp
William N. Hupp, 82, a resident of Buckhannon, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born July 23, 1923, at Ellamore, the son of the late Elmer Hupp and Versie Tenney Hupp.
On July 29, 1950, he was married to Mabel Lee Phillips Hupp, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Hupp of Buckhannon and Terry Hupp and wife, Vivian, of Williamstown; one daughter, LeeAnn Rice and husband, Rick, of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Jason Rice and wife, Erin, of Albuquerque, N.M., Nicholas Hupp of Yorktowne, Va., Jamison Hupp of Buckhannon and Nathan Hupp of Williamstown; one granddaughter, Jenna Rice of Buckhannon; and one sister, Charm Watson of Nutterfort.
He was an equipment operator for Local 132 of Clarksburg and attended First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Weston High School in 1943 and attended North Carolina State, where he played football. He was the owner operator of Stonecoal Campground for 25 years, was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman and was a member of Stonecoal Fishing Club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
