Pattie J. Laderach
Pattie Jane Liggett Laderach, 79, a resident of Beverly, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 10, 1926, at Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Austin Earl Liggett and Elva Vada Barrett Liggett.
On Feb. 22, 1953, she was married to Ernest L. Laderach, who preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Anna Marie Laderach and her companion, Jim Shockey, of Beverly and Marsha Lee Laderach Yoakum and husband, John, of Nutter Fort. One brother, Barrett Liggett of Elkins; three sisters, Katherine McAtee of Huttonsville, Mary Bell Liggett of Huttonsville and Emily Lou Liggett of Hilo, Hawaii; three stepgrandchildren, T.J. Shockey, Justin Lewis and Jennifer Shockey; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding her in death was one brother, James Robert Liggett.
Mrs. Laderach was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1943 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church of Huttonsville and attended Hart Chapel Church on Chenoweth Creek Road.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. Hugh P. Lafayette
Hugh Paul Lafayette, 62, a longtime resident of Baltimore, Md., died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in Baltimore, Md.
He was born March 30, 1943, at Wheeling, the son of the late Hugh Lafayette and Helen Cappadony Lafayette.
He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and received a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. He was employed as a certified public accountant for many years in Long Beach, Calif., and later in Baltimore, Md.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Helen Williams of Tyler, Texas; a niece, Sarah Williams of Tyler, Texas; and a nephew, Chris Williams of San Antonio, Texas.
Interment was in Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. From 13 Jan 2006.

Wanda Lamb
Wanda Lamb, 68, a resident of Buckhannon, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born Nov. 17, 1937, at Bolair in Webster County, a daughter of the late Odes and Edna Waybright Bodkin.
She was married to Woodford Lamb, who preceded her in death May 17, 1996.
Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Howell and husband, Dale, of Moorefield and Carolyn Sue Sherman and husband, James, of Fairmont; and three brothers, John Bodkin and wife, Josephine, of Elkins, Jack Bodkin and wife, Margaret, of Hagerstown, Md., and Tommy Bodkin and wife, Donna, of York, Pa.
She was preceded in death by twin sons, Wayne and Shane Lamb; one sister, Beverly Bodkin; and three brothers, Junior Bodkin, Jimmy Bodkin and Billy Bodkin.
She was a retired cook and waitress. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army in Buckhannon. She attended the South Buckhannon Mission Church and was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 in Buckhannon.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at the funeral chapel with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Benson F. Lambert
Benson Franklin Lambert, 93, of Melbourne, Fla., and formerly of Red Creek, died Sept. 4, 2006.
He was born on the family farm at Red Creek on March 30, 1913, a son of the late James B. and Carrie S. Bennett Lambert.
On Dec. 25, 1938, he married Ruby Gay Good at Red House, Md. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1998.
He is survived by two sons, James R. (Bob) and wife, Sandra, of Hendricks and David A. and wife, Sue, of Melbourne, Fla.; son-in-law, Don Judy of Beverly; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Faye Judy; and one sister, Bessie Smith.
Mr. Lambert was a heavy equipment operator for many years in the mines around Davis and also operated his own excavation equipment in Canaan Valley. He was a member of the Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church, the Flanagan Hill Development Corp. which built the Community Center, IOOF Lodge 103 of Davis, UMWA District 31 and the West Virginia Farm Bureau. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7, at Hinkle Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J.J. Dovie Elza Lambert, 98, a resident of Stalnaker Run Road, Elkins, and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Thursday evening, Dec. 28, 2006 in the center.

Dovie E. Lambert
Dovie Elza Lambert, 98, a resident of Stalnaker Run Road, Elkins, and more recently a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Thursday evening, Dec. 28, 2006, in the center.
She was born Monday, Oct. 5, 1908, at Job, a daughter of the late Robert Elza and Dolena Flubareer Elza.
On Nov. 6, 1933, at Circleville, she was married to Ezra Veach Lambert, who preceded her in death June 24, 1968.
Surviving are one son, Howard Lambert of Stalnaker Run; one daughter, Helen M. Lambert of Elkins; one sister, Mary Cottrell of Elkins; four grandchildren, Patty Haney, Tom Smith, John Lambert and Keith Lambert; four stepgrandchildren, Barbara Stewart, Linda Kisner, Joey Stewart and Junior Stewart; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were one son, Owen W. Smith; one daughter, Judith Ann Lambert; two brothers, Joe and Phillip Elza; and one sister, Margie Thompson.
Dovie attended the schools of Wymer, was a homemaker and was a Methodist by faith.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Leslie Bert Lambert, 96, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006, in Pendleton Nursing Home at Franklin.

Martha A. Lambert
Martha Ann Lambert, 75, a resident of the Highland Park community, passed away at 7:04 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Martha A. Lambert
Martha Ann Lambert, 75, a resident of Highland Park, Elkins, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 19, 2006, at 7:04 a.m. She had been in failing health for the past two years.
Born Feb. 21, 1931, at Mill Creek, she was the daughter of the late Laffe and Daisy Higgons Lambert.
Martha is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean Teter of Elkins and Martha Rose Lambert of Ohio; two sons, Carroll Richard Lambert and wife, Shirley, of Morgantown and Freddie Lee McCauley and wife, Roberta, of Maryland; one sister, Virginia Bennett of Valley Head; one brother, Virgil Lambert of Elkins; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family also wishes to acknowledge all caretakers, family, friends and those through Mountain Hospice who helped to provide care for Martha. Martha was a homemaker and was employed at the Lord Demott’s cannery in Baltimore, Md., for several years.
She enjoyed dancing, music, singing and sewing. Martha loved attending musical theaters. She will be greatly missed by those she loved.
Besides her parents, Martha was preceded in death by one infant daughter; two sisters, Mary McCauley and Edith Fincham; two brothers, James Lambert and William Lambert; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, Dec. 23, after 5 p.m. A eulogy will be conducted on Saturday by Martha’s granddaughter, Jennifer Coffman, at 7 p.m. At the request of the deceased, following the services, the remains will be cremated. Patricia A. Lambert, 59, a resident of Belington, died Thursday evening, Sept. 14, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Patricia A. Lambert
Patricia Ann Lambert, 59, of Route 3, Belington, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health, but her death was unexpected.
She was born Dec. 4, 1946, at Belington, a daughter of the late Amos Clinton and Virginia Lee (Wright) Ross.
On April 9, 1966, at the Kynette Methodist Church, she was married to Roger Dale Lambert, who survives at Route 3, Belington.
Also surviving are one daughter, Vanessa Lea Long and husband, Chris, of Belington; three grandchildren, Laiken White, Kaelin White and Traeton Long, all of Belington; one sister, Debbie Harris and husband, David, of Philippi; two brothers, Ronald Ross of Philippi and Donald Ross of Belington; two sisters-in-law, Irene Ross of Belington and Sue Poling and husband, Clyde, of Salamanca, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Joe Lambert and wife, Vera, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, David Eugene Ross.
Mrs. Lambert was the former owner and manager of the Jiffy Mart in Belington. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2344 at Elkins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, from Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. The Rev. Doyle N. Rider and the Rev. F. L. “Wink” McQuain will officiate and interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m Sunday. Robert S. Lambert
Robert Scott Lambert, 51, of Pierce, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather, passed away Oct. 16, 2006, at his home. He was loved by everyone who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
He was born July 30, 1955, at Parsons, a son of Robert Dale and Jeanette Christine Scott Lambert of Thomas.
Also surviving are his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Don and Mary Fink of Clarksburg; his wife, Marian Fink Lambert; two sons, Scott Lambert of Grove City, Pa., and Adam Lambert of Buckhannon; one daughter, Kelly and husband, Doug Heater, of Bridgeport; one brother, Ted “Mush” Lambert of Thomas; three sisters, Linda Nichols of Davis, Cindy Snyder of Thomas and Penny Kidwell of Thomas; one grandson, Samuel David Heater; and many nieces and nephews.
He was employed by Consol Mines for 22 years and most recently by Fairfax Machine and Welding of Thomas. Scotty graduated from Mountaineer High School with the class of 1973, leading as quarterback to an undefeated football season. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at First Presbyterian Church of Thomas. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 18 Oct 2006.

Shannon Lambert
Shannon Kay Lambert, 38, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born April 3, 1968, at Elkins, a daughter of Hazel Zetta Lambert, who survives, and the late Viven Jesse Lambert.
Also surviving are her soul mate, Brian Waugh, of Elkins; two brothers, Steven Jesse Lambert and wife, D.J., of Bowden and Bryan Christopher Lambert and wife, Carla, of Elkins; one sister, Donna Mae Teter and husband, Emmet, of Chenoweth Creek Road; two nieces; one nephew; and one great-niece.
Miss Lambert worked as a clerk at the Short Stop Exxon for five years prior to becoming disabled. She attended New Life Fellowship.

Yvonne H. Lambert
Yvonne Huff Lambert, 85, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center at Elkins, departed this life Monday morning, Nov. 6, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
She was born Sunday, Nov. 14, 1920, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Howard Huff and Sylvia Nestor Huff.
On Nov. 1, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Herman Donald Lambert Sr., who preceded her in death July 29, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, Howard Elliott Lambert and wife, Patricia, of Perkiomenville, Pa., and William Wythe Lambert and wife, Lois, of Parsons; one daughter, Donna Mayfield Schoonover and husband, Bill, of Grafton; one stepson, H. Donald Lambert Jr. and wife, Elizabeth Jean, of Elkins; 17 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Huff and William Howard “Bud” Huff Jr.; and two sisters, Sylvia Marie Kisamore and Eleanor Jean Barrett.
She attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1938. She had worked for the former Clover Farm at Parsons. She retired as deputy county clerk of Tucker County having served 18 1/2 years under D.K. Goff and Nina Buchanan, county clerks. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and piano and she was a 50-year member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Women. She had served as president of the United Methodist Women and as a Sunday school teacher. She was pianist for Tucker County Senior Citizens Choir, The Goldenaires, from 1984 until 1994.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. The Rev. J. Glenn F. Land
Glenn Franklin Land, 69, of Carol Street, Buckhannon, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at his home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
He was born Jan. 1, 1937, at Ringgold, Ga., a son of the late Frank and Maggie Bryant Land.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 24, 1979, to Mary Anna Thompson Land, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Brenda Cooper of Houston, Texas, and Paula and husband, Henry Lopez, of Spring, Texas; and one son, Butch and wife, Lilly Land, of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by three grandsons, Adam and wife, Tonya Purdue, of Humble, Texas, Al and wife, Claudia Pye, of Humble, Texas, and Zachary Lopez; one great-granddaughter, Paige Pye; several nieces and nephews; a special brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Lantz of Buckhannon; and brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Shirley Thompson of Philippi.
He was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Land; and two brothers, James and Donald Land. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Mr. Land was a veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and a lifetime member of Philippi Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 144. He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. John Wildman officiating. James E. Lane
James E. “Jamie” Bucklew Lane, 35, of Rock Cave, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.
He was born June 25, 1971, in Lewis County, a son of Fred Bucklew of Tennessee and Delores Littlejohn of Summersville.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Veith.
Also surviving are three sons, Christopher, Gauge and Johnny Lane, all at home; one sister, Kelly Holley of Ireland; one brother, Bumper Bucklew of Summersville; two stepbrothers, Jason Nickell of Tennessee and Billy Lipscomb of Grafton; three nieces, Natasha Tallman, Desiree and Makayla Bucklew; two nephews, T.J. Holley and Levi Slockum. He is also survived by stepmother, Julie Bucklew; maternal grandmother, Betty Lane of Rock Cave; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Tom Littlejohn; and his grandfather, James Edward Lane.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be Friday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Carolyn Lantz
Carolyn “Katy” Lantz, 63, of Crawford and formerly on Parkersburg, went peacefully to be with her loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital after fighting a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was a daughter of the late Richard and Fleta Talbott.
Surviving are two sons, Richard L. Lantz and companion, Kandi Baker, of Parkersburg and Michael C. Lantz and wife, Lynn, of Volga; a grandson, Justin Lantz of Volga; and her loving “true friend” and companion of 23 years, Ralph “JR” White of Adrian.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Talbott; and grandparents, Henry A. and Bertha Taylor and Russell and Melinda Hickman
Viewing will at at Heaston United Methodist Church Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Sue Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Elva Catherine Lantz, 94, of Anaheim, Calif., passed away Aug. 21, 2006, at Walnut Manor Care Center, Anaheim, Calif.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. Friends will be received Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at the Aurora Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Georgia M. Lantz
Georgia M. Lantz, 100, a resident of Greenville, S.C., died Monday, July 10, 2006, in St. Francis Hospital at Greenville, S.C.
She was born Jan. 23, 1906, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late William A. Bodkin and Ida Mae Light Bodkin.
She was married to G.E. Lantz, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Benjamin Lantz Jr. of Greenwood, Ind.; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Hornbeck of Greenville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Leon Lantz and Marvin Lantz; two brothers, Hartzel Bodkin and Jamie Bodkin; and one sister, Tressa Kingsberry.
She was a homemaker.

William J. G. Lantz
William Junior Gordon Lantz, 90, a resident of Route 1, Philippi, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Barbour County, a son of the late Willis Lantz and Luie Dilworth Lantz Fornash.
Mr. Lantz was twice married, first, on Dec. 25, 1934, to Lucy Agnes Pitman Lantz, who preceded him in death Dec. 29, 1975. Second, on Nov. 12, 1976, to Elma Lanhan Smith of Elkins, who preceded him in death March 4, 1983.
Surviving are two daughters, Myrtle Lue and husband, Dale Nestor, of Poolesville, Md., and Judith and husband, Robert Arbogast, of Belington; four sons, William Jobie and wife, Carolyn Lantz, of Philippi, Winfield S. “Sam” and wife, Dana Lantz, of Clarksburg, Olaf Paul and wife, Sandra Lantz, of Midway Road, Belington, and Jerry Alan and wife, Jeni Lantz, of Philippi; a dear friend and companion, Ruth Beckner Morrison, who was adored by the family; 13 grandchildren, Dale and Agnes Nestor, Greg Lantz, Rebecca Bisia, Nikki Gibson, Scott and Mike Lantz, Amy Saterfield, Jaime Dumire, Teresa Yardley, Jason and Traci Shelton and Connie Hamilton Lantz; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lantz was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Junior and Ralph Michael Lantz; and one sister, Alcinda Moore.
Mr. Lantz loved farming and the West Virginia fields, raising beef cattle and showing his draft horses. He also was a dozer operator for Barbour Coal Co. and other area mines. He was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

Robert W. Larkin
Mr. Robert William Larkin, Jr., 77, a resident of Mabie, passed away at 4:54 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at his home.
He was born March 1, 1929, at Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Robert William Larkin Sr. and the late Sadie Lee Jenkins Larkin.
Mr. Larkin was raised by Russell and Vera Rose, who also preceded him in death.
On Nov. 5, 1949, at Baltimore, Md., he was married to Edith “Louise” Snyder Larkin, who survives at Mabie.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Wesley Larkin and wife, June, and Steven Russell Larkin and wife, Debbie, all of Mabie. One daughter, Anita Louise Larkin McLellan and husband, Richard, of Cockeysville, Md.; three brothers, George and Russell Rose Jr., both of Baltimore, Md., and Earl Rose of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Hazel Hawkins, Charlotte Brown and Betty Wands; seven grandchildren, Lori Peddicord, Richard, R.D., Jennifer, Jon, Jamie and Josh Larkin; and two great-grandchildren, Amber and Heather Peddicord, also survive.
Mr. Larkin was a musician, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed as a machine operator for the Koppers Co. He was a member of the Mt. View Nazarene Church and served as a member of the board of the church.

Lorren J. Lawrence
Lorren James Lawrence, 21 years, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, 2006, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Thursday, Aug. 1, 1985, at Elkins, a son of Jack Allen Lawrence Sr. and Alicia Maude McDonald Lawrence, who survive at Hendricks.
Also surviving are two brothers, Jack Allen Lawrence II, of Hambleton and Adam Michael Lawrence and fiance, Erica, of Philippi; his paternal grandmother, Donna “Mammaw” Lawrence; five uncles, Greg “Uncle G.” Lawrence and wife, Carla, of Belington, Rex “Uncle Tex” Lawrence and wife, Tammy, of Philippi; “Uncle Todd” Lawrence and wife, Amy, of Belington; Keith McDonald of Texas, and Eric McDonald and wife, Debbie, of Capon Bridge; two aunts, Shelly “Sis” Krizner and husband, Frank, of Philippi and Denise McConall of Winchester, Va.; two nieces, Brittany and Breeanna Lawrence; and one nephew, Austin Lawrence.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Lorren Jack “Pap” Lawrence; and his maternal grandparents, Milton H. and Vada Y. Youngblood McDonald.
Lorren attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of Musselman High School with the class of 2003. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, completing his basic training at San Antonio, Texas, and was stationed in North Dakota. He had planned to attend college starting in the spring of 2007. He was a coal miner, working at the Sycamore No. 2 mine and attended the Hambleton Pentecostal Church of God. He loved doing mechanic work, lifting weights, jogging, basketball, shooting guns, fishing, softball and his loving spirit was a blessing to all who knew him.

Nettie V. Lawrence
Nettie Violet Arbogast Lawrence, 85, a resident of Pleasant Avenue, Elkins, departed this life unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Nov. 29, 2006, at the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. Death was attributed to an acute heart condition.
She was born Saturday, Dec. 18, 1920, at Streby, a daughter of the late Peter Christian Arbogast and Stella S. Turner Arbogast.
On Aug. 21, 1937, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Merle Dean Lawrence Sr. who preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1990.
Surviving her are two sons, Capt. Gerald S. Lawrence Sr., USNR, Elkins, and Capt. Merle “Dean” Lawrence Jr., Elkins Police Department, Beverly; one sister; five grandchildren, Gerald Jr., Rene, Amy, Beth and Erik; and eight great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved.
Preceding her in death are three brothers and one sister.
She attended the schools of Streby and after receiving her high school diploma, she attended the beauty academy at Cumberland, Md. She was a businessperson, homemaker, beautician and cosmetologist. She loved taking care of her family, her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. James W. Gainer and Jamie Gongola, P.A., her caretakers, Barbara Crevar and Ellie Keller, the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center and Dr. Tim Sears and the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Room staff.

Richard Layne Sr.
Richard C. Layne Sr., 81, a resident of Route 4, Mt. Liberty community, Philippi, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 21, 1924, at Roanoke, Va., a son of the late Curtis H. and Bessie Bradley Layne.
He was united in marriage June 5, 1948 to Geneva Holbert Layne, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cathy Brewer of Mt. Liberty Community, Philippi; one son, Richard C. Layne Jr. of Delaware; three sisters, Mary Cholewao of Florida, Betty Lester of Salem, Va. and Helen Hutto of Mississippi; and three grandchildren, Shaun Scott, Angelina and Christina Layne.
Mr. Layne was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Pratt, Dorothy Layne and Jane Pearson; and two brothers, Charles and John Layne.
Mr. Layne was employed by Safeway Stores in Maryland and Colorado, for many years, as manager of the mail department. Mr. Layne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the Shangrila Ship. Mr. Layne served as vice president of Mt. Liberty Community Center, Senior Citizens Satellite and AARP Association of Philippi. He served on the board of directors for Tyhannon Sportsman Club, Barbour County American Legion Post 44 and Barbour Church of Christ church camp. He served as delegate for the Silver Hair Legislature Region 3, the board of directors for Upper Potomac Area Agency of Aging and senior vice commander and chaplin in Veterans of Foreign Wars in Maryland. He was a member of American Legion Post 44, where he was active in the funeral honour guard and attended the First Christian Church in Elkins.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley and Kent Price, minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Charles R. Leach
Charles Randall Leach, 75, of Scherr, died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.

Arthur D. Leary
Arthur D. “Art” Leary, 73, of 136 Heavner Ave., Elkins and a former resident of Dover, Pa., went home to be with the Lord May 3, 2006, at his home peacefully with his wife, Deb, and his dog, Raisen Cane, by his side after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma.
He was born in Cannonsburg, Pa., Oct. 22, 1932, and was the son of the late Irene Leary Bender and Charles Joseph Leary.
He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and grandfather known greatly for his willingness to offer a helping hand where ever needed.
Art was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the medics unit during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3647 where he held many elected positions.
Art greatly loved his Lord and was a member of the Harmony Worship Center in Elkins and attended services every Sunday that illness didn’t prevent him from doing so. He enjoyed listening and singing hymns as well as listening and learning from sermons his good friend and pastor, Larry Poling, gave.
He was a maintenance mechanic for Pfaltzgraff Pottery in Dover, Pa. Upon retirement, with 20 years service, he worked for Shadd Detective Service in York, Pa., and at the present time he was employed at the Elkins Wal-Mart Supercenter where his wife is also employed. Art worked in the hardware department and mixed paint for customers.
Art loved and took great pride in everything he did and took joy in planting many flowers, trees and shrubs at his home.
On July 21, 1985, in Elkins, he was married to the former Debra Jean Williams, who survives at their residence. At Art’s request, they renewed their wedding vows for their 20th wedding anniversary this past July.
Mr. Leary is also survived by his father-in-law, Oskar “Pap” Williams; one brother, Charles “Chuck” Leary and wife, Debbie Springer; a son, Stephen D. Leary of York, Pa.; a daughter, Donna and husband, Dan Elicker; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; several brothers- and sisters-in-law as well as several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
A special thank you goes to the Hospice Home Health Care in Elkins for all their care, comfort and support to Art and his family.

Julia J. Leary, 75, passed away at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2006, at Nella’s, where she had been a resident for the past six years.
Born June 1, 1930, at Bemis, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna Nelson Currence.
Mrs. Leary was formerly married to Sidney Allen Sturdivant, who survives at Harrisburg, Va.
Besides Mr. Sturdivant, she is also survived by three loving daughters, Elizabeth Hickman and husband, Chris, Roseanna Howell and husband, Daniel, and Shelia Lawrence and husband, Leslie, all of Elkins; one son, Todd Sturdivant and wife, Amy, of Kerens; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one great-grandchild on the way.
Mrs. Leary was preceded in death by one son, Sidney Allen Sturdivant; and one brother, Francis E. Currence.
Mrs. Leary was employed by the senior center as a caregiver. She was a Baptist by faith. Mrs. Leary was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by those who loved her. She will forever remain in the hearts of her family.

Ruby Ann Cross Leary, 69, a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Sunday evening, April 16, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 19, 1937, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Ophy Cross and the late Lucy Mae Moore Cross.
Surviving are three sons, Ricky Leary of Beverly, Vincent Leary of Belington and Charles Leary of Leesburg, Fla.; four daughters, Dianna Ryder of Bowden, Angels Suggs of Chesapeake, Va., Tammy Eakle of Manassas, Va., and Melissa McCoy of Elkins; five brothers, Clyde Cross of Charles Town, Bernard, Donnie, Kenny and Eugene Cross, all of Elkins; three sisters, Opal Moran of Charles Town, Donna Cumberledge and Wanda Brookins, both of Elkins; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Junior Cross and Richard Cross; and two sisters, Dorothy Cross and Kathleen Booth.
Ruby was a homemaker and a Pentecostal by Faith.

Edward Joseph “Mingo” Lewandowski Jr., 57, went to be with our Lord, Aug. 10, 2006, at his home in Thomas.
He was born July 26, 1949, at Windber, Pa., the son of the late Edward Joseph and Irene Cecelia Kerekes Lewandowski Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Karen Jo, daughter of Stuart Thayer of Thomas and the late Eda Thayer.
Also surviving are a son, Joshua of Windber, Pa. and children, Katherine and Edward “Joseph” III at home; one sister, Dorothy and husband, John BiHun, of Cairnbrook, Pa.; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nephews, great-nieces and many, many friends.
Mingo will always be remembered for his willingness to help someone in need, his witty humor, his love of the land and God’s creation. He graduated in 1967 from Shade Central City High School in Cairnbrook, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1967 with the Corps of Engineers Army Map Service and from 1970-1974 as a cartographic mapping technician, equipment operator. He worked as a carpenter for Gene Coia for 16 years in Bedford, Pa.

Carol Jean Phillips Lewis, 69, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2006, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kymberly and Matt Kittle, at Martinsburg. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, April 3, 1937, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Russell Phillips and Peachie Carwell Phillips.
She was married to Robert Lee Lewis, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Eugene Roy and wife, Carla, of Greenville, Tenn., Robert Roy and wife, Lois, of Magnolia, Texas, and Malcolm Roy of Pierce; two daughters, Vanessa Troutman and husband, John, of Falling Waters and Kymberly Kittle and husband, Matt, of Martinsburg; one brother, Russell Phillips and wife, Claudia, of California; one sister, Betty Nestor of Hendricks; eight grandchildren, Michael Sean, Jason, Evan, Travis, Sean, Beth, Blake and Ryan “Pookie;” and one great- grandson, Noah.
Preceding her in death was one sister, Joan “Mick” Young.
She attended the schools of Tucker County, was a mother and homemaker and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department.

David W. Lewis
David William Lewis, 28, of Route 1, Thornton, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2005, in the Sago mine disaster near Tallmansville community in Upshur County.
He was born, Aug. 18, 1977, at Elkins, a son of Timothy Randall and Karen Denise (Winans) Lewis, who survive at Route 2, Moatsville.
On April 25, 2003, he married the former Samantha Dawn Rankin, who survives at Route 1, Thornton.
Also surviving are three daughters, Kayla Don Lewis, Shelby Morgan Lewis, at home, and Kelsie May Lewis of Moatsville; one sister, Kristy Freeman and husband, Dale, of Moatsville; his paternal grandmother, Elma Jean Lewis, of Moatsville; his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Jones and husband, Charles, of Philippi; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Donna Carl, of Mannington; a brother-in-law, Mark Carl, of Fairmont; and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Lewis was a 1995 graduate of Philip Barbour High School. He was employed as a roof-bolter in the International Coal Group’s Sago No. 1 Mine. Mr. Lewis was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi. The Rev. Ruby L. Lewis
Ruby Lucinda Lewis, 90, a resident of Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 10, 1916, at Gould, a daughter of the late Nathan Goff Lewis and Nellie Myrtle Linger Lewis.
On Dec. 22, 1932, she was married to R. Huston Lewis, who preceded her in death June 23, 1975.
Surviving are six daughters, Nellie and husband, Gordon Thomas, of Buckhannon, Margaret Moore of Hodgesville, Mary Jean and husband, Robert Brown, of Lancaster, Pa., Gloria Sue and husband, Theodore Walters, of Columbia, Pa., Marie and husband, Tommy Lefever, of Leola, Pa. and Lee and husband, Thomas Morris, of Buckhannon; two sons, Kelsel and wife, Henrietta Lewis, of Oceana and James Allen and wife, Becky Lewis, of Buckhannon; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Lewis of Ravenswood; and two sisters, Willa Wayts of Elkins and Marie Sharpolisky of Buckhannon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Virginia Spangler, one great-great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Cole; one brother, James Goff Lewis; and three sisters, Elma Rosewell, Nina Lewis and Eleanor Gould.
She was a homemaker and attended Rocky Ford Untied Methodist Church.

Thomas L. Lewis
Thomas Lee Lewis, 67, a resident of French Creek, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.
He was born May 27, 1939, at Selbyville, a son of the late Hartsel Scott Lewis and Audrey Thomas Lewis.
On March 19, 1963, he was married to Dorothy Jean Teets Lewis, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Daniel Ray Lewis of Missouri; two daughters, Lisa Ann Lewis Thompson of Tennessee and Drema L. Lewis Mutum of Iowa; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; five brothers, Dale Lewis of Maryland, Mike Lewis of Ohio, Ronald Lewis, Jack Lewis and David Lewis, all of West Virginia; and two sisters, Janice Tazelaar of Maryland, and Joyce Riley of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Robert Alan Lewis; and one son, Thomas Lee Lewis Jr.
He was a truck driver and Methodist by faith.

She was born Friday, June 27, 1924, at Beverly, a daughter of the late William M. Barb and Marie Phillips Barb.
On Dec. 24, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Hartsel William Likens Sr., who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Hartsel William Likens Jr. and wife, Sue, of Laurel Mountain Road, and Charles James Likens Sr. and wife, Mandy, of Smithfield, Va.; one daughter, Beverly Ann Bennett and husband, Stacy, of Laurel Mountain Road; two sisters, Violet Louise Himes of Elkins and Rose Marie Riemenschneider and husband, Bob, of Minerva, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Joe Rice of Missoula, Mont.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one sister, Jean Rice, and one grandchild.
Mary attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith.

Calvin C. Lilly, 80, formerly of Milton, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2006, in Buckhannon.
He is survived by a son, David and wife, Caren, of Buckhannon; a granddaughter, Heather Tallman and husband, Philip, of Elkins; and three great-granddaughters Cori, Jesse and Brooke.

Richard L. Lipps
Richard L. Lipps, 79, a resident of French Creek, died Monday, July 31, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Care Facility.
He was born July 3, 1927, in Braxton County, a son of the late Walter Lee Lipps and Lillie Mae Singleton Lipps.
Surviving are one brother, Carl V. Lipps of French Creek; and one sister, Shirley Skalecki of Parma, Ohio.
Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Delbert Lipps, Olen Lipps, Kenna Lipps, Lawrence Lipps and Eugene Lipps; and three sisters, Virginia Harting, Madeline Martin and Marjorie Benko.
He was a mechanic for West Virginia Department of Highways and a lifetime member of the National Rife Association.

Henry James Linger, 89, a resident of Greenville, S.C., died Thursday, March 9, 2006.
He was born March 17, 1916, at Sago, a son of the late George Washington Barrett Linger and Estella Holsberry Linger.
He was married to Verma Koon Linger, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Eloise Lavonne (Linger) Linger of Greenville, S.C.; one son, James Allen Linger of Taylors, S.C.; two granddaughters, Nabeel Saad and Pamela Roberts; and two great-granddaughters, Christina Roberts and Kylie Roberts, both of Greenville, S.C.
He was an elementary teacher and principal. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10113 in Bel Air, Md., life time member of Council Exceptional Children and Past Grand Patriarch, Grand Encampment of Maryland IOOF. He was a retired colonel and past department commander, Department Council in Maryland-D.C., Past Grand Triumph Lodge 88, Bel Air, Md., chief patriarch, Harford Encampment 14, district grand master, District 7 in Maryland and IOOF Home Lodge Monongalia 10 in Morgantown.

Patsy Marie Champ Linger, 41, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 3:29 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born May 27, 1964, at Buckhannon, a daughter of Winford L. Champ and Rose M. Westfall Champ of Buckhannon.
Surviving are one daughter, Jacqueline Linger; two sons, Dale Wayne Linger and Dillon Paul Pugh, all of Buckhannon; her ex-husband, Jackie Linger of Martinsburg; one brother, James H. Champ of Ellamore; three sisters, Osie Blake and Anita Campbell of Ellamore and Eleanor Corathers of Chester Gap; her partner, Kevin Pugh of Buckhannon; and a stepson, Kevin Allen Pugh of Wardensville.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Winford L. Champ Jr.
She was a clerk at Shop N’ Save.

Drexie Patricia Booth Linn, 86, a resident of Buckhannon, since 1965, departed this life Friday morning, Aug. 18, 2006, in Serenity Care Home at Buckhannon. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, July 27, 1920, at Ten Mile, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Thurman Fitzroy Booth and Leatha Narcus Tenney Booth Taylor.
On Dec. 24, 1943, at San Diego, Calif., she was married to Velden Benton Linn, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Sharon Dianne Linn Ryan and husband, Dennis, of Elyria, Ohio, Patricia Kay Linn Pistilli and husband, Al, of Brockway, Pa., Velden Benton Linn II and wife, Marlyn (Nichols), of Washington, Marcia Elayne Linn Milton and husband, Gary, of Greensboro, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Denise Ryan, Michelle Ryan, Peggy Pistilli, Heather Ryan, Becky Pistilli, Debra Ludens, Beth Pistilli, Velden Linn III, Kyle Milton and Jamie Milton; and five great-grandchildren, Emily Norris, Gage Norris, Makena Raymond, Ella Norris and Benton Ludens.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Durard Tenney.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1939 and attended the Charleston School of Commerce at Charleston. She was a super homemaker and prior to her marriage she had worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration at Washington, D.C. She was a faithful attendee and supporter of the Leading Creek Primitive Baptist Church at Montrose, believing in a covenant keeping God and rested in the finished work of Christ.

Mabel E. Hornick Linn, 90, a resident of Elkins and a patient at Merriner Nursing Facility at Glen Burnie, Md., departed this life Sunday morning, March 5, 2006, at the facility. She had been in declining health.
She was born Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1915, at Bowden, a daughter of the late Grover Hornick and Mary Kimble Hornick.
On Sept. 23, 1939, at Monterey, Va., she was married to Archie Reynold Linn, who preceded her in death July 24, 1996.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Jean Romano of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Ralph Hornick of Cumberland, Md.; four sisters, Helen Poe of Elkins, Erma Sazdah of Detroit, Mich., Irene Hornick of Baltimore, Md., and Edith Nash of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one brother, Oliver C. “Buss” Hornick, and three sisters, Edna Thompson, Betty Jo “Peg” Brit and Louise Lipscomb.
Mabel was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1935, was a homemaker and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Montrose.

Ashley Lynette Lipscomb, 19, a beautiful young butterfly who had just gotten her wings to fly has flown with her angels to heaven on Tuesday afternoon, May 16, 2006, at the Tucker Community Care Center at Parsons shortly after being admitted. Death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1986, at Elkins, a daughter of Keith Allen Lipscomb and Sheila Faye Canfield Lipscomb, who survive at St. George.
Also surviving are one brother, Joshua Allen Lipscomb of St. George, whom she loved dearly; and her maternal grandparents; Charles Lee Canfield and Linda Yvonne Carr Canfield of Pheasant Run, Shavers Fork.
Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, Elmer V. Lipscomb and Charlotte R. Zoffel Lipscomb.
She was a graduate of Tucker County High School with the class of 2004. She attended Alderson-Broaddus College and had completed her second year of nursing, and she was resident assistant. She was a member of the National Nurse Association. Her goal in life was to help others and was considering becoming a pediatric nurse because of her love of children. She was a member of the American Red Cross “Hero” club, and often donated her hair to the Locks of Love. She was a member of the Alpha Beta Nu Student Nurses Association and the Lambda Sigma Phi sorority, which she enjoyed and loved. She attended the St. George United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Society.
She enjoyed being involved with community activities. She was well loved by all to whom her heart touched.

Gilbert Lipscomb Jr.
Mr. Gilbert Filmore “Jay” Lipscomb Jr., 84, a resident of the 4-H Road near Philippi, departed this life at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Nov. 18, 1921, at Junior, a son of the late Gilbert Filmore Lipscomb Sr. and Ann Loma Williams Lipscomb.
On Aug. 14, 1942, he was first married to the former Frances Gainer, who preceded him in death in July of 1971. On Feb. 5, 1972, he was married to the former Louise Moales, who preceded him in death March 27, 1999. On Nov. 2, 1999, he was then married to his present wife, the former Lucille Flint, who survives at their home near Philippi.
Also surviving are one son, Gil Lipscomb of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Frances Poling and husband, Jim, of Philippi and Tippi Charnoplosky and husband, George, of Belington; seven grandchildren, Brian Lipscomb and wife, Ronita, Andrea Wheeler, Brad Lipscomb and wife, Wendy, Corey L. Poling, Holly J. McDermott and Lori and John R. Charnoplosky; one brother, Don Lipscomb and wife, Pearl; two sisters-in-law, Dema Lipscomb and Jenny Lou Moales; and a daughter-in-law, Pat Lipscomb. Five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to Mr. Lipscomb’s parents and first and second wives, he was preceded in death by one son, William Grant Lipscomb; three sisters, Lois Shomo, Dale Hillyard and Freda Shomo; four brothers, Leon, Lindey, Sammie and Grant Lipscomb.
Mr. Lipscomb attended the schools of Barbour County and graduated from the Belington High School with the class of 1939 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Mr. Lipscomb was a longtime coal operator, owning and operating coal mines in Randolph and Barbour counties and retired from coal mining equipment sales. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Belington, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, had also attended the Philippi United Methodist Church. He was very active in organizing the 199th Ordinance Depot Co. U.S. Army reunion every year, was a member of the Belington American Legion Post 29 and a former member of the Belington Kiwanis Club.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Thursday, April 27, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and then again on Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., when final rites will be conducted from the church with the Rev. Robert Baer Jr, Rev. Jeff Moales and the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery, where the presentation of the American flag will be accorded by American Legion Post 44 of Philippi. Kathryn K. Little
Kathryn “Katie” Kelley Little, one of the “Cookie Ladies,” 89, a resident of Elkins Street, Parsons, went to be with the Lord and family Friday evening, Nov. 17, 2006, in Garrett County Memorial Hospital at Oakland, Md. She had been in declining health.
She was born Thursday, July 19, 1917, at Evanwood, a daughter of the late William A. Kelley and Millie Ethel Cross Kelley.
On July 4, 1936, she was married to Delbert “Slim” Little who preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1993.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Robert, William, Leroy and Dale Kelley; and one sister, Alma Pennington.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Virginia N. Kelley of Cresaptown, Md., and Rose Ann Kelley of Waukesha, Wis.; many nieces and nephews; her special caregiver and friend, Madelin Simmons; and her “Little Boy Gus.”
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1937 and was inducted into the PHS Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001. She had worked as the store manager for Cunningham’s Store and Parsons Department Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Parsons where she had taught Sunday school. She had recently received her 50-year certificate and pin as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Parsons Chapter 91 and was the founder of the Concerned Citizens’ Coalition, which was better known at the “Cookie Ladies.” She was honored in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 16, 1998 by FEMA as Project Impact’s Outstanding Citizen during which she received a standing ovation. She was also awarded the Community Service Award by the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce. In December of 2000, she was awarded a plaque from Jason Myers for raising money for the new street signs in Parsons, and she had a large part in helping with the construction of the Veteran’s Wall in Parsons. She was well known for her rolls, cream puffs and peanut butter candy, and she was an avid reader and bird watcher.

Ila Anita Piercy Lloyd, 90, a former resident of 1 Gilmore St., Elkins and a resident of Boyles Manor at Gore, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006, at the manor.
She was born June 19, 1915, at her family home on Piercy Road near Elkins, a daughter of the late Andrew Jay Piercy and Lillie Gertrude Skidmore Piercy.
On Oct. 1, 1938, at Redhouse, Md., she was married to Wayne Jefferson Lloyd, who preceded her in death July 19, 1995. For many years, Mr. Lloyd was owner and operator of Duke’s Purol Service Station and L & S Motors, both of Elkins.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Dana Lee Lloyd Lantz and Winfred “Sam” Lantz, who reside in Clarksburg; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jason (Nikola Michelle Lantz) Gibson of Rosemont, Cpt. Jefferson Scott Lantz who is serving his second deployment with the U.S. Army 101 Airbourne Division in Baghdad, Iraq, and his wife, LeeAnne Lantz, of Palmyara, Tenn,. and Michael Lloyd Lantz and wife, Shawna Christine Lantz, of Clarksburg; four great-grandchildren, Nikolaus Michael Lantz Rogers, Austin Scott Gibson, Alyson Taylor Gibson and Aidan Tyler Gibson, two stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley Kay Gibson and Hunter Jamison; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was the oldest of six children and is also survived by three sisters, Hilda May Piercy Campbell of West Minster, Md., Hazel Loretta Piercy Right of Melbourne, Fla., and Lois Doresta Piercy Stouffer of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Ila was preceded in death by her brothers, William Charles “Bill” Piercy and Andrew “June” Piercy.
She attended the Calvary Baptist Church for many years.
She was a former employee with the WPA Bureau of Printing & Engraving at Washington, D.C., the Barnard & Whetsell Block Co. of Elkins, was the treasurer for the city of Elkins and worked with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy for women’s protection in transit or relocation for incarceration.
She did personal bookkeeping and tax preparation for more than 200 clients for many years and retired after 34 years of service with the West Virginia Department of Highways and worked with the Leadsville Public Service District.
She was active in clubs and community, county and state activities.
She was a member of the Pythian Sisters No. 79 of Elkins, Auxiliary of the IOOF No. 116 of Elkins, H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647, all of Elkins, a member of Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern Star, National Secretary Association, Georgetown Garden Club, a 4-H leader and advisor and the Federal Plaza Planning Group.

Thelma I. Lloyd
Thelma Irene Lloyd, 88, a resident of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, in Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 17, 1918, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late Rev. Charles and Teresa Poling Lower.
On Nov. 17, 1934, she was married to Oren “Tom” Lloyd Sr., who preceded her in death in May of 1980.
Surviving are one daughter, Martha Channell and husband, Bill, of Hickory Flat Road; three sons, Oren “Bill” Lloyd Jr. and wife, Thelma,” and Bernard Lloyd and wife, Violet “Dolly,” all of Hackers Creek and Charles Lloyd and wife, Norma, of Teter; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Casto of Sand Run.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Teresa Lloyd; two sons, Clyde and Steve Lloyd; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters; and two brothers.
She was a homemaker and Methodist by faith. She enjoyed being outside doing yard work and working in her flower gardens.

Beulah E. Loar
Beulah Elizabeth Haller Loar, 86, a resident of Talbott Personal Care Home and a former resident of Route 3, Clemtown community, Philippi, went with the angels that came down to take another home on Monday, June 26, 2006.
She was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late William J. and Cordilla G. Shaffer Haller.
She was united in marriage, in 1941, to Robert S. Loar, who preceded her in death July 4, 1983.
Surviving are three daughters, Dottie and husband, Joseph Bishop, of Clarksburg, Betty Carr of Philippi and Jane and Jim Winans of Volga; one son, Delphon A. Loar of Clemtown community, Philippi; one sister, Bernice Cline of Philippi; six grandchildren, John Loar, Lorrie Johns, Stephenie Riley, Vanessa Anderson, Jamie Jordon and Darius Bishop; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Loar was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Byran, Leon and Donald Haller.
Mrs. Loar was a domestic housewife and a member of Clemtown United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m and Thursday, June 29, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Charlotte Edna Long, 59, of Dunmore, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

French W. Long
French Willard Long, 91, of French Creek, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in Mansfield Place in Philippi, where he had been a resident since March.
He was born July 15, 1915, in Upshur County, a son of the late Harvey Hezekiah and Cemantha Jane Hyre Long.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Maoma Winemiller Long, whom he married Oct. 15, 1946.
He is survived by one son, George D. Long of French Creek; one daughter, Kathy Long Yoho of Cullman, Ala.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Dillon Edwards, Capt. Joel Dillon, Melissa Dillon Bastos, Jessica Yoho Coleman, Justin Yoho and Derek Long; three great-granddaughters, Ariel and Naomi Edwards and Lorelai Coleman; and one brother, Fred Long of Buckhannon. Several nieces and nephews survive.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Leanna Long Dillon; six sisters, Pearl Long Helmick, Xenna Long Carpenter, Vera Long Smallridge, Ruth Long Criss, Betty Long Williams Donaldson and Blanche Long Fleming; and three brothers, Harry Long, Glen Long and Cecil Long.
Mr. Long was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he was a former teacher of the adult class and pianist. He also served as a lay speaker at other area churches. He was a former employee of Shannons Hardware in Buckhannon for many years and later at Home Hardware in Buckhannon.

Grover Long
Grover Long, 94, a resident of Onego, died Jan. 20, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
He was born Sept. 26, 1911, at Onego, a son of the late Sheridan Long and Mary Jane Vance Long.
He was married to Ruth Jean Turner, who preceded him in death Jan. 7, 1991.
Surviving are five daughters, Ruby Ann Kisamore of Onego, Rebecca Teter of Onego, Rosemary Hofecker of Franklin, Rheba Helmick of Onego and Ruthalee “Susie” Hess of Franklin; two sons, Richard Conrad of Rivesville and Robert Lee Long of Maysville; 34 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and a large number of great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Milton Long of Onego, Kermit Long of Trout Run, Pa., and John Long of Seneca Rocks.
Also preceding him in death were three sons, Ray Michael Long, Randy J. Long and Ronnie Dale Long; one daughter, Ronna Thompson; three brothers, Warren Long, Earl Long and Fred Long; and three sisters, Beulah Cook, Hazel Mallow and Bertie Heavener.
He worked for Works Progress Administration and retired in 1984, after 26 years, from Mongold Lumber Co. in Elkins.

Patricia A. Long
Patricia Ann Long, 59, a resident of French Creek, the Frenchton community, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at her home.
She was born Dec. 15, 1946, at Clarksburg, a daughter of Arlene Harper Tanner, who survives at Frenchton, and the late Ira Tanner.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three children, Jeff Long and wife, April, of Frenchton, Chris Long and wife, Vanessa, of Belington and Mariah Long of Frenchton; six grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Corathers and husband, Mac, of Buckhannon and Ellen Tanner and husband, Robert Story, of Missouri; and two brothers, Jack Tanner and wife, June, of Morgantown and John Tanner and wife, Lois, of French Creek.
She was an accountant.

Rosalee Long
Rosalee Vance Long, 80, a resident of the Georgetown Road, Beverly, went home to be with the Lord at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Valentine Personal Care Home where she had been a resident since July 2005. She had been in failing health for the past five years.
She was born June 4, 1926, at Onego, a daughter of the late Adam and Annie Vance.
She was married to Earl Long, who preceded her in death March 10, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Evelyn) Zirkle and Mrs. Mark (Wilma) Rose, both of Beverly; one son, Joseph Earl Long and wife, Cathy, of DeLand, Fla.; two grandsons, Matthew Allen Zirkle and wife, Crystal, of Elkins and David Alan Long of DeLand, Fla.; three great-grandchildren; and special friends Morris and Zane Raines.
Rosalee was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by twin sons, Terry Lynn and Jerry Glen Long; and two sisters, Mae Shank and Mavis Arbogast.
She attended the schools of Pendleton County, was a homemaker and was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir.

Bobby W. Loudin
Bobby Wayne Loudin, 72, Ravenna, Ohio, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Streetsboro, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 24, 1937, at Little Birch, a son of the late Paul E. Loudin and Janet Jackson Loudin, who survives at Buckhannon.
On Sept. 6, 1962, he was married to Betty Lynn Edmonds Loudin, who survives at Ravenna, Ohio.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, James Paul Loudin and wife, Beverly, of Marysville, Tenn., and Kevin Wayne Loudin of Ravenna, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jennifer Loudin, Michael Loudin and Joshua Loudin; four brothers, Richard Loudin of Buckhannon, Edward Loudin of Morgantown, Roger Loudin of Vienna, Va., and Ricky Loudin of Warren, Ohio; and two sisters, Carolyn Perry of Indian Camp and Linda Wygal of Buckhannon.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army for nine years.

Russell W. Louk, 62, a resident of Buckhannon, died Monday, July 17, 2006, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.
He was born April 9, 1944, at Huttonsville, a son of the late William Howard Louk and Nora Loveria Bennett Louk.
On Jan. 10, 1983, he was united in marriage to Brenda Smith Louk, who survives at Buckhannon.
Surviving are two sons, Russell W. Louk II and wife, Suzanne, of Sarasota, Fla., and Anthony W. "Tony" Louk and wife, Sheila, of Buckhannon; one daughter, Candace Mackey and husband, Michael, of Charleston; two brothers, James Louk and wife, Charlene, of Nutter Fort and Bonnie Ralph Louk and wife, Marilee, of Garrettsville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Mary Louk of Clarksville, Tenn., and Louise Louk of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Kelley of Philippi; eight grandsons, Justin McHenry, Zachary Louk, Tyler Louk, Kolby Louk, Ethan Louk, Alex Louk, Kaleb Mackey and Andrew Mackey; three granddaughters, Lauren Louk, Sadie Louk and Zoe Mackey; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Boyd Louk and Vernon Louk.
He was a lead meter reader and collector for Allegheny Power. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He attended South Buckhannon Mission Church.

Kenneth David Lowther, 50, a resident of Volga, died at 5 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2006, at his home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1955, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Robert Grant Lowther and Vera Emma Clevenger Lowther.
On Oct. 20, 1972, he was married to Deborah Suder Lowther, who survives at Volga.
Also surviving are one daughter, Rebecca of Clarksburg; four sisters; and six brothers.
Also proceeding him in death were two brothers.
He was employed as a tool pusher.
Private visitation will be at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Thursday, March 20, from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Victor J. Lucas III
Mr. Victor Jackson “Jack” Lucas III, 81, a resident of Route 92, Belington and more recently a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Sept. 12, 2006, in the care center. He had been declining health for quite some time.
He was born April 18, 1925, in Taylor County, a son of the late Victor Jackson Lucas II and Mrytle Audra Utt Lucas.
He was twice married, first to the former Mary Ann Rogers, who preceded him in death in 1976, then on Nov. 1, 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Lois Katherine Wilson, who survives at their residence in Belington.
Also surviving are two sons, Victor Jackson Lucas IV and wife, Julie, of Bealeton, Va., and George Robert Lucas and wife, Judy, of Huntington, Md.; two daughters, Amber Jeanette Suder and husband, Monty, of Brooms Island, Md., and Debra Lucinda Poe and husband, Terry, of Grafton; three stepchildren, Betty Lou Taylor and husband, Bob, William Woodrow Wilson II and wife, Lora, and Sherwood Griffin Wilson and wife, Leslie; eight grandchildren, Monty and Scott Suder, Paul David, Tee and Joe Louzy, Victor Jackson Lucas V and Tonya and George Lucas. Additional survivors include one brother, David F. Lucas of Grafton; 10 great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Gertrude Barlet.
Mr. Lucas was a 1943 graduate of Grafton High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during World War II, and a former dairyman working with his father for 40 years. He was employed by the Department of Human Services in Maryland and retired after 15 years of service as a youth counselor. He was a member of American Legion Post 96 of Belington and was a member of Belington Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 15, Mr. Lucas will be moved to the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home of Grafton, where friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the Grafton funeral home with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Grafton, where full military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Grafton City Post 3081, American Legion Taylor County Post 12, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 24 of Grafton and their Auxiliaries. Dorothy L. Lupardus
Dorothy Lee Lupardus, 84, of Gandeeville, Roane County, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at home.
She was born Feb. 18, 1922, at Glady, Randolph County, a daughter of the late Bernard and Sylvia Ketterman Bonnell.
She was a former cutter at Kellwood Co. and a member of Gandeeville Community Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruby Moore of Walton and DeAnna Witte Dunton of Montgomery Village, Md.; three sons, James Bernard and Darrell Lee Lupardus, both of Gandeeville, and Harold Richard Lupardus of Walton; two brothers, Earl Bonnell of Glady and Bernard Junior Bonnell of Elkins; a sister, Loretta Arbogast of Elkins; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Lupardus, in 2000; a grandson, Kevin Lupardus; and a brother, Randall Bonnell.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer. From 28 Feb 2006.

Owen W. Lutz
Owen W. Lutz, 82, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday morning, Feb, 24, 2006, in the emergency department of the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 24, 1923, at Elkins, a son of the late Ward and Iva Tolberd Lutz. He was married to the former Dorothy Burbridge Slaymaker, who survives.
Mr. Lutz was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corp during WWII. He was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He was a farmer for many years prior to retirement.
Mr. Lutz was a member and past deacon of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.
At his request, his remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Jane P. Lynn
Jane Pritt Lynn, 57, of Charlottesville, Va., died peacefully Sept. 6, 2005, at Martha Jefferson Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born Sept. 28, 1947, in Elkins, Jane was the daughter of the late Thaddeus McClellan Pritt and Mary Elizabeth Gatewood Pritt.
Mrs. Lynn is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Lynn; three daughters, Allison L. Lynn of Portsmouth, Va., Carter L. Lowery and husband, Matthew, and Amy L. Detwiler and husband, Colin, all of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Thaddeus M. “Mac” Pritt II of Elkins; and her grandsons, Nathan D. Lowery, Matthew “Blake” Lowery and Daniel Reid Lowery.
She graduated in 1969 from Mary Baldwin College. She completed her postgraduate studies in accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University.
“Mom” loved a good bargain and days spent in her garden. Her passions revolved around her family, especially playing with her grandsons. Her other interests included genealogy and tinkering with her many computers.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, following regular services, at Beverly Presbyterian Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society of Beverly Presbyterian Church. From 10 Jan 2006.
