Barbara L. Raines
On Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, the many angels she cherished and loved,
came and took Barbara to be with those of her family waiting in Heaven. Barbara
was loved not only by family, but by those who knew the kindness and goodness
she spread during her journey through this life.
Awaiting her in Heaven are her mother, Ruth Edna Markley Raines; her father,
Clyde Raines; her sisters, Betty Jean Raines Haddix and Helen Deloris Raines
Watson; brothers awaiting her are a half brother, Jack David Flanagan, Clyde
Edward Raines, William Robert Raines, Kenneth Louis Raines, Donald Eugene Raines
and Carl Theodore Raines.
Of the 12 children born to Clyde and Ruth Raines, or lovingly referred to by
this author as “The Dirty Dozen,” those remaining to make the journey to
Heaven are Georgetta Ruth Raines Wilson of Lakeland, Fla., Gilbert Ray Raines of
Sun City Ariz., and Roger Lee Raines of Maryville, Tenn.
Barbara, the 10th child, was noted for her helping of the sick and the needy.
She spent many years in the home health care arena, caring for those who could
not care for themselves. She lived most of her years in Elkins, which she loved
and was her home.
She was born Jan. 16, 1940, at Bemis, and spent a few of her years in the
Baltimore, Md., area. For the last eight years, she was a resident of the Tygart
Valley Apartments located on Wilson Lane in Elkins.
During a very long and painful process involving our mothers passing, Barbara
was an Angle of Mercy. “To this then I say, for all to know that my sister,
Barbara Louise Raines, belongs to an elite group of people who possess a natural
ability and desire to turn life’s miseries into tolerable and livable
existence. For this, if ever there was a reason for a person to be blessed by
God, then my big sister, Barbara Louise Raines, is to be blessed, an there is no
doubt, her name will be written on the autograph of God.”
Barbara had no children, yet she dearly loved children especially those of her
brothers and sisters. They too, loved their Aunt Louise.
She was first married to Gil Valter, who was from Pennsylvania, and then to
Sonny Clingerman of Elkins.
Granting her wishes, Barbara asked that her remains be cremated and spread upon
the grave of her mother, father, and her grandmother, Christina Cunningham
Raines.
“When your life here on earth is ended, and these roads no more you shall
trod, may your name in gold be written, on the autograph of God.”

Monday, March 13, 2006, at his home in Youghiogheny Forest, Aurora.
Born Oct. 31, 1942, at Baltimore, Md., he was the son of Gerhard and Eileen Wolf
Reeves, both deceased.
Bill grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa., but spent his weekends and summers at his
family’s cabin at Aurora. In the mid 1960s, Bill moved to Deep Creek Lake,
Md., where he established Reeves Fence Construction, a trade he learned in
Pittsburgh working with his father. During this time, Bill also owned and
operated the Cellar Door on Deep Creek Lake. In the early 1970s seeking to
return to his home in West Virginia, he opened Mountain Village Inn at Silver
Lake and expanded his fence business by founding Mountain State Wire and Fence
Co. Finally, in the early 1990s, Bill opened the Brookside Inn and moved his
fence companies to Aurora. His purchase of the Brookside Inn was a bow to his
interest in regional tourism, local history and historic preservation. An avid
newspaper reader, Bill maintained subscriptions to many of the small town papers
from the region where he kept track of the local football and basketball teams.
He loved sports and credited the discipline of the game with getting him through
school. He played football at Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., where
he was chosen to compete in the “Big 33” all star game in Hershey, Pa., in
1961. Bill also played football in college, receiving scholarships from both
North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D., and Western New Mexico University
in Silver City, N.M. In the 40 years that Bill lived in this area, he thoroughly
enjoyed his participation on several local teams including softball, basketball
and tennis and could always be seen either in the stands or at the sidelines
supporting the sports activities of all of his children.
Bill bravely faced the cancer that eventually took his life and he leaves behind
him many loving friends and a family who miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Michele Moure-Reeves; his twin brother, James Keith
Reeves and wife, Mary Jane, of Hilton Head, S.C.; his sisters, Linda Sue Reeves

Through their love and tender and compassionate care and the kindness and
consideration of the staff of Hospice Care Corp. in Arthurdale, he was able to
pass gently through the last few months.
