Frederick Wagner
Frederick J. Wagner, 69, a resident of Chase, Md., went to be with his
Lord on Sept. 1, 2006.
He was born Oct. 26, 1936, at Junior, the son of the late Frank and Eva Wagner.
On Dec. 29, 1956, he was married to Phyllis P. George of Coalton, who survives
at their residence in Chase, Md.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Wagner and wife, Joan, and Michael Wagner and
wife, Pam, all of Chase, Md; two brothers, Norman and Robert Wagner of Elkins;
one sister, Jeanette Wagner Alltop of Philippi; and four grandchildren, Melissa,
Michael, Lisa and Steven; and two great-grandchildren, Seth and Andy.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Marjorie Wagner Carter of Stow, Ohio,
preceded him in death.
He attended the schools of Barbour County and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He
worked in the printing business for several years in the Elkins area before
relocating to Maryland, where he owned and operated his own business before
becoming disabled.
Fred never meet a stranger and always took that extra step to lend a helping
hand to those in need. Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and

Helen I. Wagner
Helen Irene Lee Wagner, 73, a resident of Tallmansville, died Sunday,
Oct. 15, 2006, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice of
Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 23, 1933, at Cubana, a daughter of the late Jess Hanifan and
Lola Zickefoose Hanifan.
Surviving are two sons, Ellis Lee and wife, Debra, of Tallmansville and Randy
Lee and wife, Susie, of Hinkleville; three grandsons, David Lee of Illinois,
Derek Lee of Tallmansville and Andrew Lee of Weston; two granddaughters,
Christina Lee of French Creek and Jamie Heddrick of Buckhannon; three brothers,
Jerry Maynard Hanifan of Buckhannon, Norman Denver Hanifan of Cubana and Marvin
Hanifan of Buckhannon; and five sisters, Lottie Lewis of Buckhannon, Naomi Brant
of Buckhannon, Margaret Ann Simmons of Cassity, Adis Corrick of Florida and
Doris Talbott of Arizona.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Jess Oliver Hanifan, Calvin
Hanifan and Stafford Hanifan; and two sisters, Genieve Phipps and Dessie Hanifan.
She was a homemaker.

Charles Roger Wagoner, 53, a resident of Route 2, Belington, passed away
Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at his residence.
He was born June 25, 1953, at Philippi, a son of the late Charles Wagoner and
Virginia Davis Wagoner, who survives.
He was united in marriage June 5, 1987, to Betty Virginia Davis Wagoner, who
survives at home.
Also surviving are one sister, Karen Hardman of Philippi; and one brother,
Robert L. Wagoner of Clarksburg.
Mr. Wagoner was employed at Morgan Auto Parts as manager and was a Baptist by
faith.

Charles Roger Wagoner, 53, a resident of Route 2, Belington, passed away

Kevin M. Wagoner
Kevin Michael Wagoner, 23, a resident of Buckhannon, the Tallmansville
community, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Death
followed a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis.
He was born May 19, 1983, at Buckhannon, a son of Douglas R. and Brenda C.
Hanifan Wagoner, who survive at Tallmansville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four brothers, Timothy Wagoner,
Justin Wagoner, Jeremy Wagoner and Kaden Wagoner, all of Tallmansville; one
sister, Trina Wagoner of Tallmansville; paternal grandparents, Teddy R. and
Marlene Wagoner of Tallmansville; maternal grandparents, Denver and Hilda
Hanifan of Queens; and uncles and aunts, Butch and Connie Wagoner, Kenny and
Becky Wagoner, Sam and Kay Wagoner, Rusty and Nancy Tenney, Larry and Tammy
Cutright, Rodney and Devona Butler, Dave and Karen McClure, Dave and Debbie Koon
and Debbie Hanifan.
He was preceded in death by one uncle, Ronnie Hanifan; and one brother, Kaleb
Eugene Wagoner.
Kevin enjoyed hunting, spending time with his friends at the bowling alley and
muddin’ in his Dodge. He was employed by Food Lion in Buckhannon and Rite Aid
in Weston. He attended Sago Baptist Church.
Viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral

Helen M. Waitkus
Helen Mary Waitkus, 95, of Davis, passed away Aug. 6, 2006, in Cortland
Acres Nursing Home at Thomas.
She was born in Coketon, a daughter of the late Alexander Jasper and Katherine
Martha Demloskus Waitkus.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Alexander Victor Waitkus; and four
sisters, Stella Kizas, Victoria Ingram, Julie Norkus and Evelyn Cook. She was
the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include nephews, Alexander Waitkus of Virginia Beach, Va., John Norkus
Jr. of Florida, Danny Ingram of Aurora and Robert Waitkus of Thomas; and several
great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ms. Waitkus’ occupation was housekeeper. She was a member of St. Thomas
Aquinas Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, in St. Thomas
Aquinas Catholic Church at Thomas with Fr. Timothy Grassi as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge

Justice E. Walton
Justice Edward Walton, 87, a resident of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, May
23, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Buckhannon.
He was born Feb. 8, 1919, at Pickens, a son of the late Richard Baxter Walton
and Flora Helmick Walton.
On March 10, 1946, he was married to Ada Louise Campbell Walton, who preceded
him in death March 27, 1988.
Surviving are four daughters, Dolores Loudin and husband, Buck, of Buckhannon,
Sue Pugh and husband, Ron, of Buckhannon, Kay Stone and husband, Dale, of Poway,
Calif. and Lynn Linger and husband, William, of Buckhannon; three sons, Tex
Walton and wife, Hazel, of Buckhannon, Robert D. Walton and wife, Linda, of
Swannanoa, N.C. and Jim Walton and wife, Marilyn, of Buckhannon; one brother,
Karl Walton of Buckhannon; 21 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Alvin Walton, Roy Walton and
Foreman Walton; and two sisters, Leona Ellison and Beatrice Riggleman.
He was an auto mechanic for Upshur Motors and Christian by faith. He had been a
supervisor at Buckhannon Brick Yard, manager of Red Stone Coal Tipple, truck
driver for Cecil Cutright and Herb Price and mechanic for Bud Bennett, Slim and
Bill Cook Pontiac and Soupy Campbell’s Upshur Motors. He had also worked at
Southern States when it was on Main Street where Home Hardware is now and had
don concrete and block work on the mausoleum at Heavner Cemetery and the
swimming pool at Ev-en Breath Acres. He had helped build many streets in
Buckhannon including Smithfield, Hart, Lincoln, Victoria Hill and Amalia Drive.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Poling-St. Clair

Carl Wayne Wamsley, 46, a former resident of Lavalette Avenue, Elkins,
passed away at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the home of his mother, Noami
Wamsley, in Elkins.

and interment of the cremains will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, in

Karrol R. Wamsley, 71, a resident of Adrian, died at 8:55 p.m. Monday,
March 27, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Upshur County, a son of the late Ray Wamsley and
Dolly Koon Wamsley.
Surviving are two daughters, Kristine Shoulders and husband, Russell, of Adrian
and Billi West and husband, Shane, of Buckhannon; two sons, Darrel Wamsley and
wife, Charlotte, of Buckhannon and Rick Wamsley and wife, Melody, of Yorba
Linda, Calif.; six brothers, Jim Wamsley of Ohio, Ronnie Wamsley of Ellamore,
Douglas Wamsley of Ellamore, Charlie Wamsley of Buckhannon, Danny Wamsley of
Buckhannon and Tom Wamsley of Ellamore; two sisters, Arwanna Tenney of Ellamore
and Glenna Fletcher of Ellamore; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two daughters Shelby Elizabeth Wamsley and
Deanna Ruth Wamsley; four brothers, Willard Ray Wamsley, Lorne O’Dell Wamsley,
Garnett William Wamsley and Dennis Eugene Wamsley; and one sister, Helen Gower.
He was a mason at Bethlehem Mines Corp. and a Methodist by faith. He enjoyed
fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Violet A. Wamsley
Violet Arlene Wamsley, 76, a resident of Buckhannon, died Friday, Dec.
1, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Nov. 8, 1930, at Hall, a daughter of the late Charlie Smith
Campbell and Ada Matilda Sothen Campbell.
On Aug. 10, 1968, she was married to James Ray Wamsley, who preceded her in
death March 6, 1986.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; two brothers, Wilbert Campbell and
wife, Roslynn, of Garrettesville, Ohio, and Lafie Campbell and wife, Norma, of
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and three sisters, Judy Beer and husband, Ed, Juanita
Adams and husband, Charlie, and Hazel Walton, all of Buckhannon.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Forest Campbell and Charlie Smith
Campbell Jr.; and three sisters, Louise Walton, Beda Queen and Rosie Gibson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Upshur County Humane Society. She was a
Methodist by faith.

Sharon Lee Ward, 59, a resident of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Aug. 9,
2006, in Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Aug. 20, 1946, at Alexander, a daughter of the late Forrest Dale
and Rose Lee Phipps Bennett.
Surviving are one daughter, Debra Duvall of Inwood; one son, Phil Ward of Ohio;
and five grandchildren, Brooke, Cameron, Philip, Conner and Cole.
Also preceding her in death was one sister, Isophene “Shortie” Wilfong.
She was a postal worker.

Fred G. Ware Jr.
Fred G. “Bear” Ware Jr., 58, of 127 Sago Road, Buckhannon, died
Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Sago Mine No. 1.
Mr. Ware was born Feb. 20, 1947, at Adrian, a son of the late Fred G. Ware and
Genieve Vance Ware.
He is survived by one daughter, Peggy (Ware) Cohen and husband, Aaron, of
Buckhannon; one son, Darrell Ware of Buckhannon; five grandchildren, Kailyn
Ware, Madison Ware, Abby Ware, Marc Adams and Hunter Cohen, all of Buckhannon;
ex-wife, Brenda Newcomer of Strongsville, Ohio; and brother, David Ware of
Adrian.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a special friend, Burma Hamner.
Mr. Ware was a coal miner for the International Coal Group. He was a member of
the Sago Baptist Church.
Friends will be received Monday, Jan. 9, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sago
Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. also
at the church with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in the

Larry Ware
Larry Ware, 57, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006.
Larry was born Nov. 13, 1948, a son of the late Gaylord and Russie Humphrey
Ware.
Larry leaves behind a wife, E. Fay Lewis Ware; and three daughters and husbands,
Gailene and Terry Knicely, Elaine and Craig Miller and Beverly and Brian Helmick.
Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kelly Knicely and Sierra Helmick and
three grandsons, Jason and Justin Knicely and Bradly Helmick. He is also
survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Lottie Hanifan Lewis;
one brother-in-law, Earl D. and wife, Carolyn Lewis; one sister-in-law, Hilda
and husband, Don McNaughton; three sisters, Ellen McClain, Evelyn and husband,
William Lemasters, and Brenda Hickman. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and
nephews, cousins and loving caring friends also survive.
He was a Methodist by faith. Previously Larry worked at Upshur Coals and was
currently employed by Sodexho at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Tressie M. Ware, 93, a resident of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Feb. 25,
2006, at the home of her daughter in Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Deco Tenney
and Ivy Tenney Tenney.
On Oct. 12, 1933, she was united in marriage to James M. Ware, who preceded her
in death April 13, 1989
Surviving are one daughter, Stella V. Ware Morris of Buckhannon; one son, Larel
Ware of Kinsman, Ohio; one grandson, Willard Morris of Buckhannon; one
granddaughter, Donna Wizniak of Perry, Ohio; two great-grandsons, Darrel Morris
of Buckhannon and Jonathan Wizniak of Perry, Ohio; three great-granddaughters,
Valerie Wizniak of Perry, Ohio, Jessica Morris and Sarah Nesbitt, both of
Buckhannon; and one brother, Claude Tenney of Buckhannon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son,
Earl Ware; one grandson, Marvin Ware; one granddaughter, Shelia Morris; one
great-grandson, Todd Morris; five brothers, Arnold Tenney, Oren Tenney, Luther
Tenney, James Tenney and Lester Tenney; and one sister, Ursula Tenney.
She was a homemaker.

Ray A. Ware
Ray Alan Ware, 62, a resident of Savannah, Ga., passed away Tuesday, May
9, 2006, in Savannah.
He was born Oct. 20, 1943, at Huttonsville, a son of the late Delmar G. Ware and
Naomi Ruth Wilson Ware.
He is survived by one daughter, Tiffany O’Brien of Winsted, Conn; three
brothers, Joy Ware and Newton Ware, both of Huttonsville and Harold Ware of Mill
Creek; and a sister, Mae E. Shiflett of Orrville, Ohio.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Robert Ware.
Mr. Ware was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a truck driver
prior to his retirement.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at the Brick Church
Cemetery near Huttonsville. The Rev. Harold Swecker will officiate and interment

Danny T. Warner
Danny Thomas Warner, 54, a resident of Circleville, died Tuesday, June
20, 2006, at Edinburg, Va. in Shenandoah County.
He was born July 31, 1951, at Petersburg, a son of Arvil William Warner, who
preceded him in death April 5, 1995, and Cynthia Jane Nelson Warner, who
survives at Cherry Grove.
Also surviving are one daughter, Heather Warner of Montrose; one son, Keynon
Warner of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Teresa L. Mauzy of Churchville, Va., and
Lois Ann Warner of Cherry Grove; and four brothers, Charles Warner of Franklin,
Allen Warner of Cherry Grove, Frank Warner of Caldwell and Carl Warner of
Circleville.
He was a 1970 graduate of Circleville High School and graduated from West
Virginia University as a landscape engineer. He was a logger, landscaper and
trucker.

Flornie M. Warner
Flornie Mae Warner, 87, a former resident of Montrose and a resident of
the Good Samaritan Center in Belington, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in
Broaddus Hospital in Philippi.
She was born June 19, 1919, at Bartow, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson
Bennett and the late Ella Mae Lambert Bennett.
On July 27, 1941, she was married to Noah Warner, who preceded her in death Dec.
24, 1998.
Surviving are a sister, Sallie Tingler of Montrose, and several nieces and
nephews.
Also preceding her in death were one sister, Monna Simmons; and five brothers,
Lester, Ezra, Elmer, Raymond and Roscoe Bennett.
Mrs. Warner was a homemaker and an Apostolic by faith.

Gerald S. Warner
Mr. Gerald S. “Jurl” Warner, 74, a resident of Eglon and a patient
in Devlin Manor at Cumberland, Md., passed away at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday at the
manor.
He was born June 18, 1931, at Whitmer, a son of the late Adam Harness and Jessie
Elza Warner.
He had never married.
Surviving are a brother, Charles E. Warner of Harrisonburg, Va.; six nieces,
Ruth Miller of New Market, Va., Debra Warner of Harrisonburg, Va., Kathryn
Tipton of Norfolk, Va., Shirley Campbell of Elkton, Va., Melody White of
Broadway, Va., and Miriam Hedrick of Seneca Rocks; and a nephew, Douglas Warner
of Fulks Run, Va. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive. Also preceding
him in death was one brother, one sister and a niece, Charlotte Weatherholtz.
Mr. Warner worked for many years on the family farm and was a member of Whitmer
Church of God.

Lee Owen Warner, 98, of Franklin, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in
Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va.
Friends called Sunday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services were

Retha B. Waugh, 85, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, in her
home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice of Buckhannon.
She was born March 17, 1921, at Webster Springs, the daughter of the late Oley
Williams and Donna Sears Williams.
On July 10, 1948, she was married to John C. Waugh, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one daughter, Shirley (Waugh) Hudak of Buckhannon; one
grandson, John Paul Hudak of Buckhannon; one brother, Eugene Williams of
Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul
Williams and Corbet Williams.
She was a homemaker and attended Liberty Baptist Church in Buckhannon.

Ruby J. Waugh
Ruby J. Waugh, 94, a resident of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Feb. 23,
2006, in Crestview Manor at Jane Lew.
She was born Jan. 29, 1912, at French Creek, a daughter of the late Robert W.
Hamner and Myrtle Burr Hamner.
On Jan. 12, 1929, she was married to Norman F. Waugh, who preceded her in death
Oct. 29, 2004.
Surviving are two grandsons, Robert Waugh of Weston and Mark Waugh of Columbus,
Ohio; one granddaughter, Cheryl Steele of Columbus, Ohio; three great-grandsons,
Jeff Waugh of Lavalette, Chris Waugh of Chicago, Ill., and Taylor Steele of
Columbus, Ohio; three great-granddaughters, Andrea Waugh, Haley Waugh and
Madison Waugh, all of Columbus, Ohio; two great-great-granddaughters, Dulaney
Waugh and Cassidy Waugh, both of Lavalette; and one sister, Maxine Strader of
Buckhannon.
Also preceding her in death was one son, Robert H. Waugh Sr.
She was a beautician and attended Reger Chapel United Methodist Church. She was
a member of Brushy Fort Extension Homemakers Club and a lifetime member of Fern
Rebekah Lodge.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Saturday from noon to
2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Clifford West will officiate and interment

Wanda Waybright
Wanda Lee Waybright, 65, of Frank, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2006,
at her home.
Born Aug. 25, 1940, at Bartow, she was the daughter of the late Elmer B. and
Violet of Oxley Hoover.
She was a born-again Christian, was a singer for God and the the Canaan
Crusaders and played the Q-cord. She was a cook for the Hermitage Restaurant and
for Mountain Mart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvey M. Waybright, in 1994; and a
brother-in-law, William H. Galford.
Surviving are one daughter, Trena Dawn Carr and husband, Brett, of Durbin; one
son Michael Lee Waybright and wife, Carola, of Arbovale; two sisters, Barbara
Alice Sacks and husband, Bruce of Bethlehem, Ga., and Twila Sue Shifflett and
husband, James, of Frank; two granddaughters, Tonya Jones and Kindra Carr; and
several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral
Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the

Jackie L. Weaver
Jackie Lynn Weaver, 51, a resident of Mt. Liberty Road, Philippi, passed
away Jan. 2, 2006, in the Sago mine disaster in Tallmansville.
Mr. Weaver was born Jan. 5, 1954, in Philippi, a son of the late Oliver Perry
and Evelyn Dorothy Sinsel Weaver. Mr. Weaver was united in marriage Sept. 5,
1992, to Charlotte Poe Weaver, who survives at Mt. Liberty Road in Philippi.
Also surviving is one daughter, Rebecca Sue Weaver Wolfe of Philippi; one son,
Justin Tyler Weaver, at home; one sister, Linda Lou Kimble of Franklin; two
stepsisters, Beverly Ann Pyles of Grafton and Hilda Jean Jones of Ohio; three
brothers, Perry W. Weaver Jr., Mark Allen Weaver and Jeffrey Neal Weaver, all of
Philippi; two stepbrothers, Ron Skidmore of Moatsville and Don Weaver of
Monongah; two grandchildren, Gavin Isaac Wolfe and Dylan Christopher Wolfe; a
special nephew, George E. McCauley Jr., and several other nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weaver is also survived by many coal mine brothers.
Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Lynn Weaver Jr., and a
half-brother, Eddie Skidmore.
Mr. Weaver was an experienced coal miner and was employed by Sago Coal Mines as
a maintenace man. Mr. Weaver was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed the
outdoors. Mr. Weaver was a member of the Corley United Methodist Church.

Philippi on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Jan. 8,

Surviving are a son, Billy Lee Weese of Philippi; a daughter, Christy

Leo Bert Weese
Leo Bert Weese, 92, a resident of the Harpertown Community,
Elkins since 1949, and since 2003 a resident of Nella’s Inc. at Crystal
Springs, departed this life Monday afternoon, July 17, 2006, in the nursing
home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Monday, Sept. 29, 1913, at Elkins, a son of the late William Dallas
Weese and Maggie Belle McArdle Weese.
On Sept. 18, 1937, at Elkins, he was married to the former Edna Lenora
Stevenson, who preceded him in death, June 23, 1999.
Surviving are one daughter, Janette Ruth Weese Poling and husband, Lawrence
Dale, of Havelock, N.C.; one son, Leo Dewayne Weese of Stalnaker Run Road,
Elkins; two sisters, Bessie G. Weese Moore of Florence, S.C. and Jessie B. Weese
Mossman of Grapevine, Texas; four grandchildren, Tammy Lee Poling of Havelock,
N.C., Monty Dale Poling of Beaufort, N.C., Cindy Kay Weese DeMotto of Elkins and
Leo Timothy Weese of Elkins; four great-grandchildren, April Marie Drum of
Cornelius, N.C., Emily Marie DeMotto of Elkins, Clarisa Ann Weese of Morganton,
N.C. and Leo Hunter Weese of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife are three brothers, George
W., C. Fred and W. C. "Ted" Weese; one sister, Iva Mae Weese Thayer;
one half brother, Calvin "Barney" Ray; one half sister, Loretta Ray
Stickney; and his daughter-in-law, Wanda Moats Weese.
He attended the schools of Elkins and Greene, Kan. and began working for the
Western Maryland Railroad as a fireman in February 1934. He retired as an
engineer in June 1975 with more than 40 years of faithful service, which
included 12 years in the former town of Spruce in Pocahontas County. He was
raised in the Methodist faith and in latter years attended the Leading Creek
Primitive Baptist Church at Montrose, along with his wife. He was an avid hunter
and fisherman and loved the outdoors. All who knew him can honestly say,
"He was truly one of the last of the great mountain men."
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel

Nora E. Weese
Nora Edna Morrison Weese, 78, a resident of 1013 S. Henry Ave., Elkins,
passed away at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 20, 1927, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Foley E. and
Bessie L. Pritt Morrison.
On Feb. 25, 1961, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Blaine Weese, who survives
in Elkins.
Also surviving are a brother, Ralph E. Morrison of Akron, Ohio; and a sister,
Norma A. Bodkins of Elkins.
Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Elsie White, Elaine Morrison and
Gael O’Hare; and two brothers, McLake “Mac” Morrison and Alton Morrison.
Mrs. Weese was a graduate of Elkins High School and worked for the G.C. Murphy
Co., Reidbord Brothers, Montgomery Ward and for Stone and Thomas at the time of
her retirement. She was a member of the Montgomery Ward Retired Employees
Organization, the Randolph County Senior Center, where she served for years as
the piano accompanist for the Melody Chorus. She was a member of the Coffman
Chapel Church, where she provided the music that all of the members came to
love. She taught many to play the piano, and with her music, was a beacon
shedding her love and light wherever she went. She had a true love for all and
never spoke an unkind word against anyone. Her life was one we would all do well
to emulate.

James E. Welker
James Edward Welker, 72, a resident of High Street in Elkins, passed
away at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at his residence following a long
battle with diabetes.
He was born May 30, 1934, at Elwood, Ind., a son of the late Jennis “Bud”
Welker and Bessie Smith Welker.
On Nov. 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to the former Geneva Olive Bennett,
who survives in Elkins.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Catherine Wenzel and
husband, Jeff, of Elkins, Sheila Rexrode and husband, Robert, of Coalton and
Dana Wood and husband, Brian, of Norton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren,
Joshua Wenzel and wife, Erin, of Ft. Drum, N.Y., Tiffany Wenzel of Elkins, Misty
Warner of Coalton, Jamie Warner and wife, Jessica, of Dailey, Kessie and Ian
Kelley of Coalton, Ashley and Tyler Wood of Norton; and two great-grandchildren,
Hunter Wenzel of Ft. Drum, N.J., and Haley Warner of Dailey. Three nieces,
Judith Rusk of Cuyohoga Falls, Ohio, Margie Alkire of Mexico and Ginny Williams
of Ohio also survive.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Patricia Howell.
Mr. Welker had a bachelor of science degree in education. He began his teaching
career at Beverly High School and then transferred to Elkins High School, where
he taught, was assistant football coach and coached basketball and track. He
worked for Appalachian Mental Health Center for 25 years until his retirement.
He was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police where he was
president several times. He was an avid hunter who never missed a deer camp. He
also loved to go camping with his family and fishing with his buddies.
At Mr. Welker’s request, his remains will be cremated. The family will receive
friends Monday, Nov. 13, at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. until 7

Verlin Elvis Wells, 84 , a resident of Valley Bend, passed away at 9:45

Verlin Wells
Verlin Wells, 84, a resident of Knapp Road, Valley Bend, passed away at
his home Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 after an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 6, 1921, at Huntington, a son of the late Joshua M. and Maude
Bunn Wells.
In September 1941, he was married to Lorraine Burcham, who passed away Dec. 5,
1966, at Newark, Ohio. On March 10, 1979, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth
Julian, who survives at Valley Bend.
Two brothers, Lovelle Ray Wells and Woodrow Wells, and a sister, Lorene Aills,
preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Connie Ozee and husband, Bobby Ozee, of Kerens,
whom he loved as a son. Granddaughter, Samantha Ozee-Voda and husband, George
Voda, and their son, Joseph Voda, of Petersburg, Va.; two sons, Larry Wells of
East Dailey and Mark Wells of Valley Bend; and one brother, Forest Wells of
Scottown, Ohio, also survive.
Mr. Wells attended the schools of Cabell County, graduating from Barboursville
High School with the class of 1940. He went to work for the C&O Railroad on
Aug. 16, 1940, and worked until January 1964. He left the railroad because of
bad health. He then moved to Granville, Ohio, where he owned a securities
company and insurance bureau. He retired in 1975 due to illness, and moved to
Valley Bend. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, at first in the
Atlantic Theater then moving through the Panama Canal to the Pacific Theater. He
was aboard the USS Griggs APA 110 at Okinawa when the war ended. He then took
occupation troops to Japan. He was discharged Dec. 4, 1945, at San Diego,
Calif., and returned to Huntington. He was a Protestant by faith, a life member
of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of
Foreign Wars. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.

Edna Marie Wentz, 72, a resident of 212 Chestnut St., Baughman Towers,

She was born June 13, 1934, at Beverly, a daughter of the late Gilbert “Bo”
and Eva N. (Simmions) Lewis.
She was united in marriage, Oct. 22, 1954, to DeWayne F. Wentz, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Anita M. and husband, Robert D. Westfall, of
Buckhannon, Sylvia L. Wentz and Chirstina F. Wentz, both of Philippi; one son,
Kelvin D. Wentz of Philippi; two sisters, Shirley and husband, Keith Coontz, and
Pauline Lewis, all of Elkins; three brothers, Don Eddie and wife, Anita Lewis,
of Barstow, Calif., Jimmy and wife, Louis Lewis, and Danny and wife, Patty
Lewis, all of Philippi; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Wentz was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

David H. Werner
Mr. David Harold Werner, 79, a resident of 309 Sturmer St. in Belington,
departed this life at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at his residence. He
had been in declining health for quite sometime.
He was born Oct. 15, 1926, at Grafton, a son of the late William Ray “Red”
Werner and Agnes Gertrude Rohrobaugh Werner.
On June 3, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Anna Margaret
“Peggy” Corley, who survives at their home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Werner is survived by one son, Timmy Werner at
home; and one daughter, Peggy Ann Werner of Norfolk, Va. Several nieces and
nephews also survive, including a special nephew, David Cordi of Medina, Ohio;
and two special ladies whom Mr. Werner thought of as his daughters.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family being preceded in death
by two brothers and two sisters.
He was a graduate of Belington High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy
serving in the Pacific from 1943 to 1947 during World War II. He had been a
civil service employee for the U.S. Army, where he worked as a radar electronics
repairer and installer in Norfolk, Va., until his retirement. He was presently
attending the Silent Grove Church of Philippi.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Fraternal Cemetery
with the Rev. Bryan Headley officiating. The presentation of the American flag
will be conducted by the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi. Interment will

Isephine Mina Westfall, 95, a resident of Buckhannon, died at

On Nov. 17, 1928, she was married to Freeman Westfall, who preceded her in death
Oct. 29, 2001.

Lovie Jane Westfall, 90, a resident of Ireland, died Friday, June 9,
2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born Aug. 7, 1915, at Braxton County, the daughter of the late Ernest
and Amelia Ann Spitler Mallett.
Mrs. Westfall was married to Roy C. Westfall, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Glenna Craig and husband, Rick, Coda Sanders and
husband, Gary, and Carrie Skinner and husband, Terry, all of Buckhannon, Goldie
Harris of Poland, Ohio and Rhoda Swartz and husband, Fred, of New Middletown,
Ohio; two sons, Troy Mallett and companion, Julia, of Arizona and Roger Westfall
of Ireland; six grandchildren and several great- grandchildren; and two sisters,
Maxine Douglas of Ohio and Violet Maul of Clarksburg.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Westfall was a Methodist by faith and a homemaker. She loved quilting,
canning and gardening.

Carney Mitchell White, 55, a resident of Heavener Acres, Elkins,
departed this life Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 2006, at his home. He had been
in declining health.
He was born Friday, June 16, 1950, at Elkins, a son of the late Charlie Levi
White and Genevieve Marcella White.
He was formerly married to Schonna Phillips White, who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are two sons, Lorren Junior “J.R.” Sturms and Michael Shane
White, both of Elkins; two daughters, Nancy G. Yokum and Sherry M. White, both
of Elkins; two brothers, Charles Glenn “Spider” White and wife, Hilda, of
Parsons and David Allen White and wife, Ann, of Philippi; one sister, Carolyn
White Plum and husband, Jack, of Hambleton; 13 grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one daughter, Tammy Lynn Taylor;
and one brother, Michael Sullivan “Hairbear” White.
He attended the schools of Tucker and Randolph counties, was a pipeliner for the
River’s Construction Co. of Texas and was a truck driver for West Virginia
Paving. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a great love for animals.

Mr. Coy A. White, 87, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday
afternoon, June 27, 2006, at his home.
He was born April 3, 1919, at Harman, a son of the late Jay Parsons White and
the late Emmaline Woodford White.
On Oct 11, 1972, at Oakland, Md., he was married to Reba Mae Hammer White, who
survives.
Also surviving are one son, Donald Eugene White of Maryland; a daughter, Diane
Beckett of Maryland; sisters, Lillian Eva Wilson of Brighton, Colo. and Arneth
Hammer of Elkins. Two stepsons, Roger A. Hammer and wife, Janet, of Maryland and
Steven E. Hammer and wife, Joy, of Texas; and a stepdaughter, Augusta Hammer of
Maryland also survive.
Also preceding him in death was a sister, Lila B. Biller; and six brothers, Leo,
Reggie, Julian, Blake, Hobert and Fred White.
Mr. White attended the schools of Randolph County and was a veteran of World War
II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed as a patrolman for the United
States Park Police in Washington, D.C., where he chauffeured Robert Kennedy on
several occasions. Mr. White was a Presbyterian by faith.

Dorsie “Jack” White, 65, of Leroy Township, passed away April 27,
2006, in Lake East Hospital at Painesville, Ohio.
He was born June 25, 1940, at Elkins, a son of Dorsey P. White and Annette
Wicford White, who survive.
Also surviving are his wife, Marlene Dingle White; one daughter, Jayne Bandclow;
two sons, Jack White and Randy White; and six grandchildren. Four sisters and
four brothers also survive.
One daughter, Jill White, preceded him in death.
He was employed by Glenn Distributors. Mr. White was a member of Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 7939 in Leroy Township, Ohio. He enjoyed camping, fishing, the
outdoors and his grandchildren.

He was born Aug. 24, 1915, at Job, a son of the late Perry and Lucy (Hartman)

He is survived by his wife, Annette Weiford White, whom he married Dec. 26,
1936; sons, Jerry (Denise) White, Bob (Pam) White, Greg (Lynn) White and Dennis

of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Mt. Top Outpost Library committee, Mt. Top
Senior Center travel committee and was a member of the Church of the Wilderness.

Nancy L. White
Nancy L. White went home to the mansion prepared for her Sunday, March
19, 2006, after a long fight against cancer.
She was born Jan. 11, 1954, at Huntington, a daughter of the late Bill and
Billie Duke.
She was also preceded in death by an aunt, Dorothy Jeffries.
Nancy’s life was one of service to others in thanksgiving to her Lord Jesus
Christ. She worked as a respiratory therapist at the Huntington Veterans
Hospital, where she met her husband, Gordon. Following their union, Nancy went
to work at Branches where she advocated for victims of domestic violence and
also, at times, as the house mother, friend and defender to many women and
children. She was a member and elder of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church
serving on various committees, teaching Sunday school for children and singing
in the choir. Nancy was a member of Huntington Downtown Lions Club, serving as
an officer and secretary. She joyfully sang with the chorus of Sweet Adelines.
Nancy also served on the board of directors for Stepping Stones Inc., helping
the youth of Wayne and surrounding counties.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon White of Huntington; brother and
sister-in-law, Chuck and Connie Duke of Beaufort, S.C., and their children,
Carrie Duke and Cathy Palumbo; sister, Darla Lunsford of Hilton Head, S.C., and
her children, Bryan, Greg and Amanda Lunsford; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. White of Elkins; many cousins and friends; a special friend, Mike Wilson;
and a special puppy, Peppy.
A joyful service celebrating her life and resurrection of Jesus Christ will be

On Nov. 12, 1948, he was married to Mildred Jane Jack White, who survives at

Robert Neil Whiteman Sr., 80, a resident of South Henry Avenue, Elkins,
departed this life Sunday, April 9, 2006, at his home. He had been in his usual
health and death was unexpected.
He was born Friday, Nov. 20, 1925, at Elkins, a son of the late Thornton Russell
Whiteman and Martha Cecelia Gank Whiteman. He was twice married. First, on Sept.
21, 1946, at Elkins, he was married to the former Margaret Ida Erickson, who
preceded him in death June 6, 1969. Second, on Nov. 5, 1970, at Elkins, he was
married to the former Kathryn Ruth Mullins, who preceded him in death April 24,
2005.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Neil Whiteman Jr. and wife, Linda, of Middletown,
Pa., and Owen Keith Whiteman of Morgantown; three daughters, Linda Louise Eber
and husband, Stephen, of Teaneck, N.J., Martha Dianne Elrod of Roanoke, Va., and
Pamela Kay Van Arsdale and husband, Charles, of Cincinnati, Ohio; three
stepsons, Jim Stottlemyer and wife, Lynda, of Elkins, Bob Stottlemyer of Weston
and Brian Stottlemyer and wife, Sylvia, of Houston, Texas; one stepdaughter,

and husband, Raymond, of Kingwood; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and

He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1944 and was a veteran
of the U.S. Marines, serving during World War II. He was well known as the owner
and operator of Whiteman Cabinet Shop of Elkins, and his craftsmanship can be

Norma Ethel Wilfong, 82, a resident of Elkins, went home to be with the
Lord Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Arlington, Va. She was the last surviving member
of her immediate family.
Born on April 28, 1924, at Kerens, she was the daughter of the late Urban D. Poe
and the late Lola Edmond Poe.
On July 14, 1940, she was united in marriage by the Rev. A.E. Johnson to O.W.
“Nieal” Wilfong, who preceded her in death in Monterey, Va. in 2000.
Norma is survived by one daughter, Sandra Smith and husband, Robert, of
Arlington, Va.; one son, Richard Wilfong and wife, Peggy, of Tucson, Ariz.;

Wilfong’s Market for 36 years. Norma was a wonderful and giving person to
everyone and she will be sadly missed, however, she will remain in our hearts
forever.

Sherman Junior Wilfong, 69, a resident of Tallmansville, died at 8:38
p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at his home.
He was born June 22, 1937, a son of the late Sherman Wilfong and Kate Strader
Wilfong.
On July 21, 1984, he was married to Inez J. Riggs McCourt Wilfong, who survives
at Tallmansville.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sandra (Wilfong) Small of Buckhannon; two
stepsons, Joseph McCourt of Tallmansville and Samuel McCourt of Buckhannon; and
two stepdaughters, Debra Orsburn and Patricia Wamsley, both of Tallmansville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant child.
He was a mechanic for Basin Survey and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a
member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, Buckhannon Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 3663, BPOE Lodge 1736 and Upshur County Farm Bureau.

David Allen Wilhelm, 45, a former resident of Elkins and more recently a
resident of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., departed this life early Tuesday morning
in Largo Medical Center at Largo, Fla., after an extended illness.
He was born Saturday, Aug. 12, 1961, at Parsons, a son of the late William Allen
Wilhelm and M. Rosalie Wilmoth Wilhelm who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are three sons, Jarrett, Jordan and Chaz Wilhelm; his former
wife, Karen Bush Wilhelm; several aunts and cousins; and a special friend, Betty
Mahoney.
David was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1978, and he
graduated from Bethany College in 1983. He was very active in all sports
throughout high school and college. He was employed by the Johnson & Johnson
Family of Companies as a representative.

Edith C. Williams, 87, of Parkersburg and formerly of Rock Cave, died
Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
She was born Feb. 17, 1919, at Frank, a daughter of the late Louis and Antonia
Urbanic Collins
She was united in marriage in 1940 to Nestor E. Williams, who preceded her in
death June 14, 2003.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Alkire of Huntsville, Ala., Brenda
Finnerin of Parkersburg and Betsy Harnden of Beverly; four grandchildren, Todd
Alkire, Eric Finnerin, Ashlea Morrow and Laura Dye; four great-grandchildren,
Brandon and Meghan Alkire and Jimmy and Ben Morrow; and one brother, Leonard
Collins of Painesville, Ohio. She is also survived by a special friend, Murl
Bailey of the Cedar Grove Personal Care Home, where Edith was also a resident.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Robert Heavner officiating.

Glenna Williams
Glenna Williams 89, of Arthurdale, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, in Windy
Hill Manor at Kingwood.
She was born Feb. 16, 1917, at Junior, a daughter of the late Winfred Walter and
Harriet Almira Corley Williams.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included two
sisters, Hilda Hendershot and June Mayfield. Her family members were original
Arthurdale homesteaders.
Glenna graduated from Arthurdale High School in 1935. She received a degree in
elementary education from Fairmont State, did graduate work at West Virginia
University and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in education, recreation and
social work. She taught at the Arthurdale Nursery School, in elementary schools
in Lake County, Ohio and in Preston County. In 1947, she became the director of
Religious Education for the Preston County Council of Churches. In 1950, she
began with the national mission’s project of the Presbyterian Church as the
director of Christian Education for the Mountaineer Mining Missions serving
Bertha Hill, Canyon, Pursglove, and Rock Forge in Monongalia County; Jordan and
Four States in Marion County; and Bethlehem in Harrison County. She was the
founder and director of the Rock Forge Neighborhood House. After retiring in
1981, she served five years as the first president of Arthurdale Heritage Inc.,
organized and directed the Golden Anniversary Celebration of the founding of
Arthurdale in July 1984. She spent 14 winters at Lettuce Lake Resort in Fort
Ogden, Fla. She was a member of the Arthurdale Community Presbyterian Church,
Arthurdale Heritage and former Arthurdale Federated Woman’s Club; charter
member of the Morgantown Soropitimist Club and greater Morgantown Meals on
Wheels program, where she was on the board of directors.
She is survived by two nephews, Charles William Hendershot Jr. of Kingwood and
Albert Edward Mayfield Jr. of Arthurdale; two nieces, Charlotte Hendershot
Cathell of Bridgeport and Harriet V. Mayfield of Morgantown; many great-nieces
and great-nephews.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in the Arthurdale Community
Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers,
donations in her memory may be made to the Arthurdale Community Presbyterian
Church, Arthurdale Heritage Inc., Rock Forge Presbyterian Church or Rock Forge

Leonard L. “Tuck” Williams passed from this world at 7:36 p.m.
Friday, April 28, 2006, after a brief illness
He was born the third child of nine to Cary and Nellie Williams on May 10, 1923.
In the span of his life, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from
1939 to 1941, served our country for 22 years, seven months and six days through
the North African and Italian campaigns during World War II, flew on supply
routes over the Arctic Circle in Korea, and in Cameron Bay supplying soldiers
during the Vietnam Conflict. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for
the West Virginia Department of Highways as a bridge crew foremen and then as a
welder and equipment operator in the oil and gas industries.
After retiring from the working world, Mr. Williams enjoyed his hobbies of
fishing, hunting, tending his garden, building outdoor grills and spending time
with his family.
Mr. Williams was a husband of 57 years, a father of four, grandfather of 13, a
great-grandfather of nine, a man of his word, a friend, a mentor, respected and
loved by all that knew him. His presence will be sorely missed.

On Oct. 12, 1948, he was married to Elizabeth Bender Williams, who preceded him
in death Aug. 31, 1977.

Pleasant W. Williams
Retired certified public accountant Pleasant Winfred “PW” Williams,
84, of Elkins, died in his sleep Saturday morning, March 18, 2006, in
Talbott’s Personal Care Home in Belington, where he had been a resident for
five weeks. He had been in declining health for several years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Doty; one brother, Benjamin Williams
and wife, Myra; a sister-in-law, Carol Williams; and his beloved daughters and
their husbands, Brenda Carol Cachia and husband, Joe, and Karen Gail Martin and
husband, Fred.
He was the proud grandfather of Rebecca Cachia-Riedl and her husband, Mark, and
daughter, Isabelle; Steve Cachia and his wife, Kris, and their daughters, Rachel
and Kaitlyn; Teresa Cachia; and Jacob Martin. Also surviving are four loving
stepchildren, Sally Barnett, Emily May, Leslie McCormick and Daryl Pullen and
their spouses and eight children.
Preceding him in death were his former wife, Cornelia O’Conner Williams; two
sisters, Frankie Allred and Lavadnia Garrett; two brothers, Lansden Carson
Garrett and James Marion Williams; and a grandson Joshua Martin.
Pleasant was born Nov. 16, 1921, at Oneida, Tenn., and grew up there, the son of
the late Olive (Chambers) and Benjamin F. Williams.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radar technician
aboard the escort carrier USS Gilbert Islands in the South Pacific. After the
war he lived in Oak Ridge, Tenn., for more than 30 years, where he worked as an
accountant for the Atomic Energy Commission before being transferred to their
Washington, D.C., office. He retired from the Department of Energy in 1979.
Pleasant spent the last several years of his life in West Virginia, where he
lived for 12 years on a remote hillside farm in Calhoun County before relocating
to Elkins, where he resided for 14 years. He enjoyed studying art at Davis &
Elkins College and working part time at the Elkins Kroger store until his health
began to fail. An avid bowler, Pleasant was proud that his record included a 297
game. He will perhaps be best remembered for his sense of humor and classic
country story telling, always ready with a quip and generous with his hugs.
In accordance with his wishes his remains were cremated and his ashes will be
scattered on his mother’s grave in Scott County, Tenn. at a later date. A
memorial celebration will be held at the Williams home at 1004 S. Kerens Ave in
Elkins on Friday evening, March 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. when friends are
invited to join in celebrating his life. In lieu of flowers donations may be
made to Hospice Care Corp., Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center or the charity

Elbon Wilmoth, who survives in Atlanta.
Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia W. Davis of Atlanta, Ga., and
Bettejane Tileston of Solana Beach, Calif. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs.
Stanley (Ebba) Bosworth of Elkins; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren

Mrs. Wilmoth was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture prior to her

Harry R. Wilmoth
Harry R. Wilmoth, 83, of North Sewickley Township, Pa., passed away
Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in The Medical Center at Beaver, Pa.
He was born Nov. 23, 1922, at Elkins, a son of the late Howard and Gypsy Wilmoth.
He was a 1941 graduate of Elkins High School and a 1949 graduate of Davis &
Elkins College. He retired as a manager of the former W.T. Grant Stores, was a
treasurer of the First Federal Savings and Loan of Beaver Falls and retired from
the New Bighton School District after 18 years of service as business and then
operations manager. He was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church in
North Sewickley Township and enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. He was a
former member of the North Sewickley Lions Club and was a member of the Marine
Corps Band. Harry served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific Theater
of Operations during World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Hilda Burky Wilmoth, whom he married Nov.
26, 1947; a son and daughter-in-law; James and Kay Wilmoth of Fredonia, N.Y.; a
daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Tom Michael of Pittsburgh; five
grandchildren, Andrew and Heather Wilmoth and Patrick, Philip and Julia Michael;
four stepgrandchildren, Susan Nelchur, Stephanie Deckert, Leah and Ruth Collins;
three stepgreat-grandchildren, Sophie and Charles Nelchur and Emna Deckert; a
sister, Kathleen Pingley; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Kaye
Wilmoth, all of Elkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ivey; and
a brother, Joseph Wilmoth, while serving his country during World War II.

Clifford Raymond Wilson, 87, a former resident of Elizabethtown, Ky.,
and The Villages, Fla., and more recently a resident of the Iveagh Trust, Arnold
Hill Road, Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 27, 2006, at the
facility.
He was born Monday, Oct. 14, 1918, at Travellers Rest, Ky., a son of the late
Ray Wilson and Pearl Strong Wilson.
During 1976, he was married to the former Wilma Moore, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Charley Wilson and wife, Linda, of Elizabethtown,
Ky.; one daughter, Linda Menard and husband, Mike, of Essex Junction, Vt.; two
stepsons, Don Moore and wife, Suzi, of Huttonsville and Dennis “Chuck” Moore
and wife, Marilyn, of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Harry Wilson and wife, Judy,
of McKee, Ky.; two sisters, Helen Wright of Tyner, Ky., and Lorrayne Garcia of
Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Clifford attended the schools of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University. He
was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army and worked for
the Civil Service at Fort Knox, Ky., retiring as chief of services. He was a
former member of Elizabethtown Lions Club, Elizabethtown Airport Board of
Directors and had served as past president of Fort Knox Credit Union. He was a
member of Severns Valley Baptist Church at Elizabethtown, Ky. and was an avid
outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.

Lillian Leora Wilson, 95, of Nestorville community, Route 1, Moatsville,
passed peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, Nov. 13, 2006, at her home.
She was born July 26, 1911, at Nestorville, a daughter of the late Benjamin
Stanton and Dosha Marinda (Nestor) Marsh.
On April 14, 1934, she was married to Arthur C. Wilson, who preceded her in
death Jan. 25, 1980.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Maydell Frey of Nestorville; one brother, W. Dale
Marsh of Nestorville; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Marsh of Valley Furnace
community and Winifred Marsh of Nestorville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Louise Shaw; and by four brothers,
Kenneth Marsh, James Marsh, Overton Marsh and Robert Marsh.
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a former cook in the food service department of
Alderson-Broaddus College. She also served as a senior companion through Region
VII Aging Services.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, from the
Nestorville United Methodist Church. Pastor Dot Stewart will officiate and

Margaret Louise Wilson, 74, of Elkins, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in
Heartland Nursing Home at Kingwood.
She was born Dec. 5, 1931, at Mannington, a daughter of the late Harry and Opal
Haddix.
She was a housewife and a member of Wayside United Methodist Church in Elkins.
On Sept. 27, 1947, she married Richard E. Wilson, who passed away May 12, 2004.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Larry Lanham of
Newburg, Shirley and Clyde Greathouse of Cloyne, Ontario, Canada, and Nancy and
Bob Smalley Sr. of Kimbolton, Ohio; one sister, Betty Talkington of Weirton;
five grandchildren and their spouses, Mary Sue and Rick Swiger and Larry R.
Lanham of Newburg, Ricky and Beverly Greathouse, Teresa and Darren Snair and
Randy Greathouse, all of Ontario, Canada; nine great-grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews.

Marshall C. Winans
Mr. Marshall Cade Winans, 50, a resident of Route 1, the Talbott
community, departed this life in the Sago mining accident this past week in
Upshur County.
He was born July 5, 1955, in Upshur County, a son of the late Thurman Winans and
Helen McCoy Winans, who survives at the Audra community near Belington.
On July 18, 1974, at Belington, he was united in marriage to the former Pamela
Denise Pharis, who survives at their residence.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mandy
Dawn and Holly Beth Winans, Tiffany Leann Winans Hinkle and husband, David, all
of Belington; two brothers, Mark Winans and wife, Patricia, of Buckhannon and
Roger Winans and wife, Cheryl, of Volga; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Pharis of
Belington; and a special friend, Ashley Fortney. Several nieces and nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews and his dog, Reno, also survive.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Caroll
Winans; one niece, Pamela Winans; and his father-in-law, Virgil Pharis.
Mr. Winans attended the schools of Barbour County, was a coal miner and had been
employed at the Sago mines for the past six years. He was a member of the Loyal
Order of Moose, Lodge 598 of Buckhannon and a member of the United Mine Workers
of America. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed NASCAR racing and
was a Methodist.

Kenneth Fred Wingfield Sr., 69, a native of Tucker County and a resident

He was born Tuesday, May 4, 1937, at Kerens, a son of the late Fredrick Henry
Wingfield and Irene Allender Wingfield. On June 7, 1957, at Parsons, he was
married to Ruby Mae Carr, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Kenneth Fred Wingfield Jr. and wife, Barbara, of
Adolph; five daughters, Kathy Marlene Wingfield of Buckhannon, Donna Darlene
Hintz and husband, Jay, of Dunbar, Betty Maria Arnold of Pheasant Run, Kimberly
Sue Jones and husband, James, of Quinwood, and Mary Lynn Gunnoe and husband,
Vic, of Kenna; one sister, Ruth Wingfield of Elkins; one half sister, Pearl
Wingfield Stewart of Elkins; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one son, Michael Wayne Wingfield;
two brothers, Howard and Buddy Wingfield; five half brothers, Charles, Gar,
Walter, Leroy and Henry Wingfield; and two half sisters, Louise Wingfield and
Violet Hardy.
He attended the Petit School at Pheasant Run and had worked as a woodsman for
Roscoe Nestor. He was a construction worker, drill operator and an oiler on
cranes for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 132 at
Clarksburg, was a loving husband and father, was an avid yard keeper and loved
to play with his Jack Russell.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons
from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home

Blair Wolfe
Blair Wolfe, retired Marion County educator and farmer, died Dec. 27,
2006, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
The 92-year-old began his 37-year teaching career at Kasson High School in
Barbour County where he taught seven subjects. In 1938, he married Eleanor Downs
of Farmington and moved to Marion County where he became an elementary principal
and taught fifth and sixth grades at James Fork (No. 9) and Idamay elementary
schools. He retired in 1973 after teaching mathematics for 12 years at Monongah
Junior High School.
Wolfe was a lifelong agriculturalist. During his teaching career, he purchased a
farm near Monongah and began improving the land using scientific conservation
practices. He also developed a herd of polled Hereford beef cows. As a Marion
County farmer and cattleman, Mr. Wolfe won awards for conservation in the
Monongahela Soil Conservation District.
He was an active supporter of the 4-H program and other educational efforts of
West Virginia University Extension. He served for many years on the Extension
Advisory Committee and was active in the Marion County Farm Bureau. He served as
the organization’s president for several years. He was also a member of the
Mountaineer Beagle Club and an avid hunter.
Mr. Wolfe was born at Philippi to Oliver Frances and Bunea Vista (Lindsey) Wolfe
on Feb. 14, 1914. He was the youngest of six sons and had four sisters. The
Wolfe brothers included Dallas Wolfe of Rowlesburg, Delbert Wolfe of Grafton,
Dorwin Wolfe and Lindsey Wolfe, both of Moatsville, and Francis Wolfe of
Clearwater, Fla. All of his brothers preceded him in death. His deceased sisters
include Mary Hardin of Slatey Fork, Lelia Corder of Brushy Fork and Opal Ludwick
of Philippi.
Mr. Wolfe is survived by his youngest sister, Caroline Cutlip of Bridgeport; his
two children, Thomas Downs Wolfe of Callaway, Va., and Diane Elizabeth (Wolfe)
Johnson and son-in-law, James Johnson of Greenville, Ohio. His grandchildren
include Janet Leigh Osborne of Hardy, Va., Thomas Blair Wolfe of Charlotte,
N.C., Meredeth Anne Johnson of Fairmont and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson of Columbus,
Ohio, stepgrandchildren, Douglas Johnson of Farmington, N.M., and Melissa
Radcliff of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandchildren, Hunter Osborne of Hardy,
Va., and Anna-Marie Blair Wolfe of Charlotte, N.C.
He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Emma Eleanor Downs
Wolfe; his granddaughter, Brenda Sue Wolfe; and daughter-in-law, Dora Toothman
Wolfe.
Mr. Wolfe had been affiliated with the Masonic Lodge since 1937. He was a member
of the Mannington AF & AM Lodge 31, the Knights Templar, Scottish Rite of
Clarksburg and the Osaris Shrine of Wheeling.
Friends and family will remember Mr. Wolfe as a storyteller, a teacher, a role
model, a disciplinarian, a man with an aptitude for mathematics and a love of
poetry, and a man who loved the land and took great pride in his stewardship of
it. He was a loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Friends and family may call on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from
noon to 1 p.m. at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. in

Kenneth “Kenny” Ray Wolfe, 27, of Masontown, died Monday, Aug. 28,
2006, as a result of a motorcycle accident.
He was born Dec. 8, 1978, in Morgantown, a son of Ricky Wolfe and Lorna Everett
Corley.
Kenny will be sadly missed by his wife, family and many friends. He was a 1997
graduate of Preston High, and was attending WVU where he was majoring in
accounting. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with
his family and riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Bee Wolfe; a son, Austin Ray Wolfe; a
daughter, Serenity Dawn Wolfe; his mother and spouse, Lorna and Dewaine Corley
of Kearneysville; his father and spouse, Ricky and Sandra Wolfe of Reedsville;
his mother and father in-law, George “Butch” and Jeannie Bee of Masontown; a

Frederick Wolfersheim
Frederick Owen Wolfersheim, 56, a resident of Huttonsville, died at his
home on Monday, May 8, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 24, 1949, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
He received his undergraduate’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and
went on to earn a master’s degree in school psychology from Catholic
University and a doctorate in educational administration from West Virginia
University. Dr. Wolfersheim spent his professional life in the educational field
as an administrator, a school psychologist and as an associate professor for the
Marshall University Graduate School. He was employed by the Webster County Board
of Education at the time of his death.
Fred was a loving husband, friend, teacher and counselor to many who will
remember both his wisdom and his sincere concern for their well being. Fred
shared his strength and zest for life with all who knew him. His service to the
community and his love for his family will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Kirby Wolfersheim; his mother, Lydia Leonard
Burgman; his father, Herman A. Wolfersheim; his brother, George Leonard Reeves;
his nieces and nephews and many friends and colleagues who loved him.

His maternal grandparents were the late James W. and Maria Blanch Fretwell
Hevener and paternal grandparents were the late Blaine and Bettie Williams Wood.
When Richard was 6, the family moved to Clarksburg and he grew up on a farm on
Davisson Run near Clarksburg. He graduated from Washington Irving High School
and joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Moses Lake, Wash., and
Johnson Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan. After returning from the service, he and
his wife, Lorene Hayes Wood, moved to New Philadelphia, Ohio. Richard taught
industrial arts at New Philadelphia High School. He was awarded the Ohio
Industrial Arts Teacher of The Year in 1980.
Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorene of Naples, Fla.; three
children, Kyrus (Jeff) Patch, Julie Devore of Naples, Fla., and Curt (Cindy)
Wood of Dover, Ohio; five grandchildren, Joy, Nathaniel and Christina Devore and
Rachel Patch, all of Naples, Fla., and Leah Crelly of Dover, Ohio; a brother,
J.D. Wood of Wellsburg; one sister, Vivian (Harold) Cochran of Parkersburg; a
special cousin, Woodsie McGee of Huttonsville; and a host of relatives and
friends.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Boniya Springs.
A “going home” celebration will be conducted at a later date in Clarksburg.

Sondra Woodbury
Sondra Lois Olsen Woodbury, 70, a resident of Vernon Avenue, Elkins,
departed this life early Thursday morning, Nov. 30, 2006, in Elkins Regional
Convalescent Center.
She was born Thursday, July 30, 1936, at Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late
Fredric Russell Olsen and Geneva Sanborn Thompson Olsen, who survives at Elkins.
In 1960, she was married to Osgood M. Woodbury, who preceded her in death on
July 24, 1995.
Also surviving her are one son, Peter R. Woodbury and wife, Wendy, of Colorado
Springs, Colo.; and one daughter, Susan M. Woodbury of Long Branch, N.J.
She was a graduate of Concord Regional High School with the class of 1954 and
had attended Smith College at North Hampton, Mass., for two years. She worked in
international accounting for Arthur D. Little Inc. for more than 20 years as an
accountant and analyst. She had a great love for and interest in all animals.
She was involved with local bridge and knitting groups, was a member of
Presbyterian Women’s Circle No. 5 and was Presbyterian by faith.

N. Janice Woodford
N. Janice Kesling Woodford, 74, a former resident of Alpena, and for the
past four months a resident of Colonial Place at Elkins, went home to be with
the Lord, March 25, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining
health.
She was born Friday, Jan. 22, 1932, at Deanville in Upshur County, the only
child of the late Nathan Hubert Kesling and Necie Dean Kesling.
On June 14, 1953, at Red House, Md., she was married to John Howe Woodford, who
preceded her in death June 3, 1999.
Surviving her are three sons, John H. Woodford Jr. and wife, June, of North
Carolina, Mark Craig Woodford and Leslie Matthew Woodford and wife, Charlotte,
all of Alpena; one daughter, Terry Ellen Warner and husband, Teddie, of Alpena;
a special friend, Robert Burnside of Buckhannon; 12 grandchildren, Jason
Woodford, Megan Hamilton, Aaron Crawford, Jay Ketterman, Jon Clinton Ketterman,
Brent Warner, Melissa Bledsoe, Nicole Woodford, Justin Woodford, Matthew
Woodford, Mason Woodford, and Elaine Woodford; and eight great-grandchildren,
Bryer and Graci Ketterman, Aubreigh, Wyatt, and Janeisa Bledsoe, Barrett Warner,
and Brianna and Weylin Hamilton.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was one daughter, Lisa
Woodford Ketterman.
She was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1950, was
a senior nursing student at the former Davis Memorial School of Nursing when she
married John, and was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and
grandmother, a loyal friend, and along with her family, she attended the Wymer
Church of God, pastored by the Rev. George Senic.
Mrs. Woodford’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be

William Woodford Sr.
William “Pat” Woodford Sr., 75, of Durbin, passed away Thursday,
Oct. 26, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born Feb. 24, 1931, at Huttonsville, the son of the late Floyd and Vergi
Barb Woodford.
Mr. Woodford is survived by his wife, Betty Mullenax Woodford; two sons, William
Patrick Woodford Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Greensboro, N.C., and David Bradley
Woodford and wife, Donna, of Warren, Ohio; five granddaughters, three
great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a sister, Elsie Shreve.
Mr. Woodford was fondly known as “Pappy.” He was a Christian by faith, was a
maintenance supervisor for Easco Alum, was a member of the American Legion, was
on the Town Council and was a U.S. Army veteran in Korea.
Family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace
Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 27, in the funeral home with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating.
Interment will follow in Arbovale Annex Cemetery with military honors. Memorial

William J. Woodyard
William Joe “Bill” Woodyard, 72, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, May
10, 2006, in Holbrook Nursing Home.
He was born April 8, 1934, at Glenville, a son of the late Willie W. “Bill”
and Nora Ethel Sprouse Woodyard.
He is survived by two ex-wives, Kathryn VanGilder of Fairmont and Marie Mealey
Woodyard of Buckhannon.
He is also survived by one stepdaughter, Dawn and husband, Jerry Arnold, of
French Creek; two grandchildren, Shayla and Dakota Arnold; three sisters, Judith
Woodyard Jones of Wales, United Kingdom; Misty Anne Woodyard Thomey of
Buckhannon and Terri Ann Woodyard Lilly of Grantsville; and several nieces and
nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Dr. Frank Scattaregia.
He was preceded in death by two children, Christianna Chrie and Billy Lee
Woodyard; and brothers, John L., James D. and Richard P. Woodyard.
Mr. Woodyard was an avid coal miner, and he was a member of the military police
in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed spending time with fiends at the Donut Shop. He was
a member of Buckhannon Moose 598 and had attended Tallmansville Baptist Church.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Heavner & Cutright
Funeral Chapel. At the request of the deceased, the body will be cremated and

Kathleen F. Woody, 54, a resident of Beverly, passed away unexpectedly
Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at her residence.
She was born July 23, 1952, at Elkins, the daughter of the late Edward
Summerfield and Bernice Louk Jones.
She was married to Leroy Woody, who preceded her in death April 17, 2004.
Mrs. Woody is survived by a daughter, Michele Ross and husband, Samuel, of
Beverly; three brothers Gary Summerfield of Belington, James Summerfield of
Elkins and Guy Summerfield of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Linda Simmons and
Carolyn Doerr, both of Elkins, and Sarah Smith; six grandchildren, Dustin
Summerfield, Eric Ross, Jaimie Ross, Samantha Ross, Patrick Ross and Andrew
Ross; and a special friend, Margie Evans.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John Summerfield.
Mrs. Woody was a homemaker and enjoyed painting crafts and reading.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Vernon Cemetery at
Beverly with the Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow.

Russell W. Woody
Russell W. Woody, 78, a resident of Buckhannon, died Friday, Feb. 3,
2006, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born Jan. 10, 1928, at Holy Grove, a son of the late Donnel Woody and
Pauline Bennett Woody.
On Dec. 1, 1950, he was married to Charlotte Mayme Curry Woody, who survives at
Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one son, Steven W. and wife, Julia M. Woody, of Elkins; one
daughter, Connie Diane and husband, Rickey L. Rice, of Lost Creek; three
grandsons, Corey Woody and Shawn Woody, both of Elkins, and Shad Rice of Lost
Creek; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Woody of Elkins, Heidi Rowan of
Buckhannon and Holly Blatt of Huntington; one great-granddaughter, Lainey Rowan
of Buckhannon; and three brothers, Jimmie Woody, Keith Woody and Dale Woody, all
of Buckhannon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donnel
Junior Woody, Edwin E. Woody and Glen Woody; and two sisters, Ruth Schwarzle and
Guilda Bragg.
He was a lumberman with Woody Lumber Co. and attended Chapel Hill United
Methodist Church.

Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Chapel Hill

Alma M. Workman
Alma Mae Canfield Workman, 73, a resident of Route 1, Montrose, passed
away Tuesday evening, Aug. 29, 2006, at her residence following an extended
illness.
She was born Dec. 11, 1932, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Beltron B.
Canfield and the late Jessie Hedrick Canfield.
She was married to William A. Workman Jr., who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William A. Workman III and Roy Workman, both of
Elkins; and two daughters, Barbara Douglas of Kerens and Terry K. Mallow of
Montrose. Three brothers, Loyal David Canfield and Harry Shirley Canfield, both
of Montrose, and Donald Ray Canfield of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews also survive.
Alma was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1950. She was
employed as a deputy tax assessor for Randolph County and a cook for Randolph
County Board of Education prior to her retirement. She was a member of Israel
United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women of the church, a member of
Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Past Matron, she
was a member of the Past Matrons and Patrons Club, a member of Isis Court No. 1,
Ladies Oriental Shrine of North American and the Tygart Valley Shrine Club. She
was an active member of Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and
the the Auxiliary of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and was a 4-H leader.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in
Elkins. At 7 p.m. today, Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern Star will
conduct a memorial service from the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will

Robert E. Wotring
Robert Eugene Wotring, 63, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, April 25,
2006, at his residence.

Dale A. Wright
Dale Allen “Bert” Wright, 43, a resident of 940 Tygart Ave., Elkins,
passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in the West Penn Burn Center at
Pittsburgh, Pa., from injuries sustained in an explosion at Canaan Valley.
Born Feb. 14, 1963, at Ravenna, Ohio, he was the son of Daniel Wright, who
survives in Elkins, and the late Eileen Mary Foster Wright, who preceded him in
death in 2004.
Besides his father, he is survived by a sister, Shellie Waybright and husband,
John, of Elkins; a niece, Nicky Waybright of Davis; a nephew, Brent Waybright of
Elkins; and a great-niece, Isabella Tenney of Davis. In addition, Bert is
survived by a host of friends.
Bert was a 1981 graduate of Elkins High School. He was a construction worker. He
was a great NASCAR fan, having been a Dale Earnhardt fan for several years. Bert
was a very well-known person. He never met a stranger and was good to anyone
whose path he crossed. He will be greatly missed by those who truly loved him
and will remain a part of their hearts forever.
At the request of the deceased the remains were cremated. A Christian burial
will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
Fr. Eric B. Antwi will be the Celebrant. The family has invited all family and
friends to attend the services to celebrate Bert’s life. In lieu of flowers,
the family has requested that memorials be made in Bert’s memory to the

G. Mae Wright
G. Mae Wright, 88, a resident of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006,
at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg.
She was born March 26, 1917, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late James
Coleman Gooden and Cora Jane Tenney Gooden.
On May 6, 1939, she was married to Delbert Wright, who preceded her in death
Dec. 22, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Delbert “Jay” Wright Jr. and wife, Hallie, of
Jacksonville, N.C., and James Wright and wife, Sharon Gail, of New Castle, Va.;
one daughter, Pamela Childers and husband, Mike, of Buckhannon; one brother, E.J.
Rowan of Prescot, Ariz.; two sisters, Idell Reid of Philippi and Jean Black of
Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Della Mae Pick; four brothers,
Clifford Gooden, James Gooden, Elmer Rowan and Jake Rowan; and three sisters,
Sarah Hawkins, Irene Ware and Isabelle Wright.
She was a homemaker and attended Sand Run Baptist Church.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home. On Thursday, Feb. 16, she will lie in state at Sand Run Baptist
Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Robert Poling and the
Rev. Donald Butcher will officiate and interment will follow in Sand Run Baptist
Church Cemetery at Excelsior. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to

Everett R. Wyatt
The Rev. Everett Ray Wyatt, 71, a resident of Nelson’s Mobile Home
Park at Beverly, departed this life early Saturday morning, Oct. 7, 2006, at his
home. Though he had been ill, death was unexpected.
He was born Sunday, March 24, 1935, at Sutton, a son of the late Archie Everett
Wyatt and Stella Mae Stockwell Wyatt.
On June 22, 1958, at Elkridge, Md., he was married to the former Margaret E.
Lewis, who survives at Beverly.
Also surviving are two daughters, Wanita Jane Thomas and husband, Wayne E., of
Scottsville, Va., and Ruth Ann Wyatt and companion, Jake Isner, of Elkins; one
sister, Mae Cook of Pricetown; three grandchildren, Andrew Edward Thomas, Lt.
Elizabeth Thomas and Levon I. Pritt; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Jerry Lee Wyatt; and two sisters, Edna
Sheckells and Mary Prunty.
He attended the schools of Braxton and Randolph counties and graduated from
Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Kentucky. The Rev. Wyatt was an ordained
Baptist minister having pastored churches in Virginia, Pennsylvania and West
Virginia. He last pastored at Parsons Southern Baptist Chapel at Parsons before
illness forced him to retire.

p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel
Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. The Rev. William Hopkins will officiate and

Mary Madeline Wyatt, 83, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, in
United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.
She was born Aug. 14, 1923, at Diana, a daughter of the late Preston and Ida Lee
Hall Groves.
She was married to Everett E. Wyatt, who passed away July 2, 1961.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Brown and husband, Thomas, of Weston; two
sons, Ernie E. Wyatt and wife, Charlene, of Romulus, N.Y., and Rick Wyatt and
wife, Brenda, of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Michelle Evans and husband,
Mark, Chris Wyatt, Mandy Sprouse and husband, Shane, and Clint Wyatt; and three
great-grandchildren, Samantha Sprouse and twins, Xavier and Isaiah Evans.
Preceding her in death were two grandsons, Thomas Brown Jr. and Greg Brown; four
sisters, five brothers, a half sister and a half brother.
She was a homemaker. She was a born again Christian and attended Bethel Temple
Church of Bridgeport.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral
Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the funeral
