Patricia P. Phillips
Patricia Ruth Poling Phillips, 42, of Parsons, died Jan. 7, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to cardiac arrest.
She was born Saturday, March 11, 1961, the daughter of Okey R. Poling and Ruth I. Lambert Poling. On August 30, 1979, at St. George, she was married to Philip W. Phillips, who survives at Parsons.
Also surviving are two daughters, Julie R.
Phillips of Waynesburg, PA, and Lisa R. Phillips of Parsons; three brothers,
Gary R. Poling, Ricky L. Poling, both of Parsons, and Donnie A. (and Amanda)
Poling, of Augusta; and two sisters, Pam A. (and Robert) Johnson, of Malden and
Wilma L. Poling of Parsons.
She was a 1979 graduate of Tucker County High School , where, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. She attended Davis & Elkins College. She worked for the former Memorial General Hospital and the Parsons Footwear Company.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, Parsons. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor with Pastor Pat Cassidy officiating and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
Doris Hendricks Hartmann, 76, of Canaan Valley, died Jan. 6, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.
She was born Feb. 12, 1927 in Lewistown, PA, a daughter of the late Howard Elijah and Carrie Mae Duck Hendricks. Her husband Howard Kendal Hartman preceded her in death November 1987.
She is survived by three sons, Duke Hartman of Davis, Shane Hartman of Clarksville, MD and Tracey Hartman of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters Brandie Hartman of Bloomington, IN and Chris Nolan of Shreveport, LA; two brothers Ronald Hendricks, Mifflinburg, PA and Howard Hendricks, Lewistown, PA.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Hartman was a retired registered nurse. She served as the Director and Assistant Director of Nursing at Cortland Acres Nursing Home for a number of years. She was active in many civic organizations. She was a member of the Friends of Cortland Acres for 10 years serving as president from 1996-2000 and currently as vice-president. She was awarded Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in 1998 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home. Mrs. Hartman was President of the Womens' Auxiliary of the Canaan Valley Fire Dept., a member of Canaan Valley Women's club, the Buena Chapel United Methodist Church and the Timberline Homeowners Association.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Winters officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in her memory to: The Nature Conservancy, 723 Kanawha Blvd. E., Suite 500, Charleston, WV 25301.
